I was about to turn 8 years old in April of 1980 still living in the Twin Cities Mpls.St.Paul Mn before moving to Baltimore Md in 1981.after the network switch of 1979-The Hollywood Squares aired on WTCN TV CH.11 when it became NBC.I also remember the nighttime syndicated Squares would air at 6pm followed by ALL IN THE FAMILY reruns at 6.30 pm on KMSP TV CH.9 which became independent while ABC moved to KSTP TV CH.5 (originally NBC)

I like the country them to this episode... George Lindsey, not only was Goober Pyle on the "Andy Griffith Show," but, as a voice actor, did one of the animated characters in Walt Disney's "Aristocats" back around 1970. Jim Stafford had a hit with "Spiders and Snakes" and Roy Clark and the others are all nice to see here...

Poor Mel had to live with the stutter in his prime and many used it as a joke, but when he sang, he had the voice of an Angel.

This was episode that you don’t see on GSN in its rotation back in 2002 where they carried “Hollywood Squares” in both the NBC nighttime version from 1968 and the syndicated version from 1971 through 1978. This one was not part of GSN’s package.

It's a pity most of these celebs didn't get to see this week of shows, at least if they lived in the Nashville area. HOLLYWOOD SQUARES was essentially cancelled in Nashville for the rest of its daytime run as soon as NBC moved it out of its almost-10-year timeslot of 10:30 AM local time. This is when lots of talk shows started taking over the 9-10 AM hour weekdays, which in Central time meant preempting whatever game shows were on during that hour. WSM-TV ran DINAH some of the time then or DONAHUE (ugh). Later NBC moved HSq for awhile to 11:30 AM or noon CT (preempted by local NOON SHOW), then back to 9:30 AM. At least the HSq nighttime version was carried (on another station) so people there could see the show at night anyway.

Hard to believe George Gobel was the only regular panelist during that special week of COUNTRY MUSIC SHOWS.Also hard to believe 17 years later on this same date March 25th was when my stepbrother MR.EUGENE B.MONTZ JR AKA GENE 4-25-1939-3-25-1997 died from pancreatic cancer at age 57 a month before his 58th birthday.Gene was a steel worker who worked at old Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point plant from 1969-1995.I remember Gene telling me that the cafeteria at Beth.Steel would be jammed packed from all the guys watching The original daytime Hollywood Squares that Gene couldn,t get any lunch to eat.

It's hard to fathom, but the little girl in the Johnson's shampoo commercial has to be at least 52 years old now. It's hard to think in those terms because she's so young, but that's reality. I always think of things like that when I see a young person or a baby in some old TV show or movie.

25:48 Tough guy/producer Sheldon Leonard in a bonnet! The woman after him I think is Elsa Maxwell, then Reggie Jackson after her.

I never liked the music and set changes! I don't remember seeing them then. Did they use the new sets and music for the nighttime version, too, or was it just in the daytime?

George Jones not only looks and sounds drunk, he looks like he's being chauffeured to a park bench after every show.,
