I remember when I was little, I was playing Emerald. I was training my Azumaril, and I saw a Pokemon I've never seen before. It looked like maril, but it was green. I always catch anything new, so I caught it. I showed someone and they told me it was shiny and really rare. I was so excited because maril was my favorite pokemon back then. That was my first shiny. :D
I spent 15 straight hours breeding zoroarks to see if I could get a shiny zorua, one of the zoroarks was stolen and replaced by a hatched and evolved zorua I got from the eggs from my friend. after 15 hours and 129 non shiny zoruas, I almost had a heart atack. it was THE zorua. It was 2 am. I then went out on the wild looking for an axew, and do you know what happened? pokerus. pokerus happened. exactly one week later, at about the same time, I was looking for a cryogonal, and you know what I found? a shiny woobat. luckiest week ever.
pedro fernando I got my shiny zorua by breeding too, best part is he has perfect IV's in every stat but attack (and he's a special attacker) I nearly died when I took him to the judge.

Mine was in pearl, a wurmple, I was about eight and didn't like the colour so I just killed it immediately. then I was told by a friend it was a shiny and how rare they were (engage massive strop). a while ago I got a shiny feebas though! I was really hyped for milotic but I accidentally fed it an under levelled poffin so I couldn't get one . (engage face desk marathon) in the end I just action replayed one in.

Doubt many people can say that they have never seen a legit shiny in multiple pokemon generations, yet get Pokerus TWICE from two separate generations like I did! (For anyone who's curious, the two pokemon who initially got infected was Metagross Lvl 63 from Pokémon Ruby and Crobat Lvl 82 from Pokémon Pearl.)
My first shiny experience: I was playing my Heart Gold game I got for my birthday or Christmas, I can't remember, and I run into this Shiny Bellsprout. Keep in mind, I was only 7 or 8 at the time, and I hardly had a grasp on Pokemon. My older brother was playing his Xbox and telling me what to do along the way if I got stuck. I had an underleveled Cyndaquil and he told me to train up my Cyndaquil, named Bob, because, I, well, was hilarious, and to catch a Mareep. I ran into a Bellsprout and noticed the odd coloring and sparkle effect. I said, "Cool, a glitter gold bellsprout!" And my brother just stopped and was like "what?!" He had found himself a shiny digglet on Fire Red, so he had a grasp of Shinies. He stopped his game and came over to me. He is stunned and mutters "Catch that thing!" I was too cool for school, and said, "No, there are too many bellsprouts already" and ran away. He was stunned and then told me the vilocity of the situation. I really didn't understand, but then I always trusted my brother, and now I shiny hunt on occasion. There's probably a life lesson in there somewhere.
My first shiny was also in Heart Gold. I was wandering around route 1 going to a pokemon center, all of my Pokemon were about level 6 and I had an encounter. It was a Pidgey, then it sparkled. At the time I didn't know what Shinys were, but I still got super exited. I got it down to red and caught it. Now its the strongest Pokemon in my copy of Sun and Moon. It also had almost perfect IVs too :D.
My first ever shiny was actually my first ever Pokemon. I came in late to the game with Emerald and began the game. I chose mudkip and its color didn't match the cover's mudkip's so I thought my game was messed up...so I turned it off and back on. The funnier thing? It was also female -_- I was such an idiot when I was a child!

When I was little I used to think shiny pokemon were just a game glitch. And when I was younger, I was scared of any glitch screwing up my game. Therefor, I never caught a shiny Pokemon besides Garados who for some reason I didn't realize was a shiny until years later. I got a pokemon card with a shiny pokemon and thought "They're exploiting a game glitch...?" and that's when I realized they were made on purpose.
I know I may catch flak but I caved and just got a power saves so I can finally have pokemon I want. And to everyone else they stay on my game I dont pollute the world with fakes.
The second shiny I ever found was in Pearl in the zone you unlock after the elite four with all of the gen 1 and 2 pokes. It was a Weezing. I immediately got it down to about 5% health, threw a ball only to have it pop out then immediately use Explosion. It was the most heart-wrenching moment for me in pokemon.
+Randy “Macho Man” Savage -sighs- At least you could battle it, I once encountered a random shiny Claydol on Ruby while I was exploring the Sky Pilar, I wanted to throw a ball to avoid any accident and as soon as I threw it broke free and used frigging _explosion_ was the first and only shiny I found in that game and the second in the third generation, my first shiny was a Poochyena in Emerald (I still have her in AS).

Randy Savage What do you mean with "most common" ? I know almost all of the shiny Poochs were uncatchable (encountered the most part of the time during the hunt for the shiny starter). I said best looking not "the best" battle wise (and a lot of pokemon got screwed on that gen regardless of the typing, at least in my opinion it was more species wise). PS: If anything when I said best looking I was talking about the shiny sprite.
Ikuto Aikou Arevalo It is the single most common poke in gen 3 in terms of how often and where they appear so you had a high chance to encounter one based solely on the number of times you are going to encounter poochyena. Realistically overall you have the highest chance to encounter shiny poochyena, wingull and tentacool since you see them most frequently. Tbh if anyone farmed shiny starters in gen 3 they have a serious mental issue.

I wanted to share a recent shiny story; Since Pokémon Bank is announced to close in the near future, I decided to revisit all DS and 3DS games and transfer as many as possible. When revisiting my copy of Y, I found a bunch of eggs randomly traded to me by friends. These eggs all had different Pokémon in them and were completely untouched. After quickly hatching them, my second to last egg yielded a surprise. A shiny goomy. This egg would have been lost to time when I reset my game if I hadn’t searched my boxes and hatched the remaining Pokémon that were left behind.

I have 3 stories about shinys! 1: Diamond; I was in stark mountain. I was determained to catch Heatran and make it a part of my team but i had forgotten to buy repels, instead of exiting the cave and buying repels i decided to tough it out and make my way through. Wave after wave of pokemon i began to lose my mind because one would appear AFTER EVERY 2 STEPS! Then...right at the entrance of Heatran's room...There it was...A shiny Slugma...I caught that thing in a heartbeat and now it's a proud member of my team in Diamond and White, even replacing Heatran. I had never been happier to forget to buy repels in my life. 2: White; Route 5. After a stressful batte with Elesa and her stupid "Volt switch spamming" Emolgas i decided to do some grinding to overlevel my team for Clay because i didnt want to end up with the water guy telling me "HEY! GET WATER TYPES THEY'RE GOOD AGAINTS GROUND!" when he was a Seismitoad...After some levels and a few evolutions i found a shiny Minccino. I caught it and tried to train it...But the f$cker was so damn fragile with piss-poor stats! I SWEAR GLASS WAS MORE DURABLE THEN IT! So i dumped it in my PC until i found out i could get a munchlax by trading a Cinccino. So i pulled out a shiny stone, evolved it and traded it away without a second thought. HAVE FUN TRAINING SOMETHING WEAKER THEN A WET PAPER BAG FATA$$! 3:Black 2: This was a copy borrowed from a friend. Everything was normal until i got to route 3. I found a shiny Audino. I was like "Holy sh$t! THAT IS RARE AS HELL!" So i caught it and made it part of my team. Then afterwards i found a shiny Blitzel and was like "2 IN A ROW!" and caught it. Then a shiny Purrlion came up and i was like "I AM THE LUCKIEST BASTARD IN THE WORLD!" So i told my friend about it...He laughed his a$$ cause what really happend was he stuck his action replay in my DS while i wasnt looking and activated the "all shiny code"...I got angry and never gave him back Black 2 or his action replay...

I found 3 shinies in my experience of playing pokemon. The first one was the shiny gyarados in crystal (and i caught it), my next one was a shiny kangaskhan in LeafGreen, and that one ran away, and I played Pokemon Gold and found a completely random shiny ho-oh.
I've only played 3 generations of Pokemon. Pokemon R/B/Y, D/P, and X/Y. It was only until very recently that I encountered my first shiny. It was a random encounter in the tall grass - no Poke Radar or anything. And what did I find? Shiny Goomy (now Goodra). I call her Maynard.
I feel so sad about my red gyarados... So I grew up with Generation 4 and I was just fishing one day. Bored out of my mind, I find out that I fished a red gyarados. I caught it and kept it as a treasure. Much later, I get more into pokemon and find out about the red gyarados in the lake of rage..... You can probably tell how much value that gyarados in my Gen 4 game lost when I figured this out.
I got SOOOOO many shinies from wonder trade in Alpha Sapphire. However, my only legit shiny was from chain fishing. Yesterday I watched a different vid about how to get shiny Pokemon. Chain Fishing came up and I immediately tried. I got a combo of 19, but accidently missed. But then, after a chain of 28, there he was. Gold. It was a Magikarp. *Throws quick ball* *makes weird wuzzeeann sound* *Shake* *CLICK!* Me:*Celebrates*
The first shiny I saw, you're gonna love this, was abra. I consider that my luckiest day ever. I caught it, traded it, and got it back. Shiny Alakazam. But, since then i have had horrid luck.
To this date, I have caught three shiny Pokemon, not counting the red Gyarados. A Pachirisu in Platinum, and a Sneasel and Barbaracle in X. In a remarkable coincidence, all three are pink. I sense a continuing trend.
Coming back to this video 12 years later as a CS graduate is a very surreal experience. Something that seemed magical to me as a kid was really just operations on data…
I will never forget my first shiny encounter - mainly since the shiny is my favorite Pokemon for shinies. So far it's been the only time I ever used a master ball in all my life. After catching her, I was jumping up and down for almost 2 hours. It was female Mienfoo in Black 2. Today, she is now the pride and joy in my Y team as a level 100 shiny Mienshao. Today I have encountered over 20 shinies - and hatched 6 using the Masuda Method, but still Mienfoo's appearance will forever remain with me, no other shiny will ever compare to that moment.

it wasn't my first but... i was chaining trying to get a shiny ditto (which i has 1 naw :3) the first encounter... was a shiny jigglypuff... it was my second shiny that day, (first was poliwhirl) and after 40 encounters i got the shiny ditto :D

Holy crap! For like a year or so I thought I only had one shiny pokemon: Gyrados, but no! I have a mother fricken Shiny Suicune!! I always wondered why it sparkled. Duh.

I lvled a gengar to 100 and had him learn mean look and hypnosis just for them was 100% worth it I got all 3 shinys and it only took 3 years.... What am I doing with my life :'(.
Meinfoo was my first ever shiny. In Pokemon Black, I went to see what Pokemon would appear at the route 8 swarm. Crogunk? okay! I caught one and immediately wanted to evolve it. I take it from the box then head out to the field just outside the entrance to Dragonspiral Tower. First Pokemon I encountered was that Meinfoo with blue highlights. My heart was racing so much, but I caught it. He's now in my Black 2, and I'm glad he is. My Pokemon Black got thrown away by accident, but I at least still have my lovely shiny.

My first (besides Raged Gyrados) was Zubat in Emerald, fainted it by accident because I was tired. Turned off the power. Then I got a Pidgey in Fire Red, my favorite Bird Pokemon, now I like Talon Flame, but Pidgeot always holds a special place in my heart! Worse case scenario: Random encounter Yes! Shiny Graveler Graveler used Self Destruct Throws DS across the room That would be a sad day for anyone...
Throughout all my years I've actually managed to catch every single shiny pokemon. However, most of them was found in X and Y using the pokemon finder method where you look for shiny grass. On top of that, I own every pokemon game so I accumulated many event shiny pokemon and traded for shiny pokemon I actually needed. To this day I have a ton of extra event pokemon that I really don't need or even use. I would estimate that it has taken me about 9 years to get every one of them, but I did it. With that said, my least favorite method of shiny hunting is the dreaded egg hatching method. I remember having over 100 phiones (baby manaphy) at a time trying to get a shiny one shiny and I wonder traded them all, but after 1,145 eggs there was a shiny phione. However, my first ever shiny was tan pikachu lol! He was terrible. His moves were lame and the fact he was tanner than I am saddened me so I quit using him entirely!

Paige Griffith You can't legally have every single one; Xerneas and Yvetal are shiny locked in the only games they appear in. This means that if you do actually have every single one, then either you or one of the people you traded with cheated to get their shinies.
i had... only 2 shiny encouters. dont worry. i caught both. my first was shiny sandile in Y. it was post game i was crossing the spike path (ya know, the rhyhorn one) i was gonna get more fossils but i didnt waste my money on repels. then i stepped on the green sandy crocodile. you shouldve heard how loud i screamd (actually no you woud be deaf it was so loud) and i caught it... IN A DIVE BALL. this is how i began to respect dive balls. my second shiny was in moon. shiny gumshoos. i was on route 14 or 16 i think and i was gonna test my steel z move w/ diglett i headed to the grass and then... "is that a shiny?" *sparkle* "OH MY ARCEUS YES YES YAAAAAAS!!!!!!!!!!!" i caught it in quick ball. this is how i began to respect quick balls.
That Red Gyrados has a special place in my heart, he was my first exposure to Shiny Pokemon and you cannot get him like that anymore (with Home indicators that specify it is the Lake of Rage one). I couldn't find Shinies until Sword came out.
I remember that time in X/Y when I wanted a regular Gulpin for a deeply Trainer PR Video. I walked into the Bush and immediately got a shiny Gulpin. I felt so cheated, because I knew I was never going to get a shiny Pokémon in the wild for at least two years. I GOT A SHINY PILE OF GOO.
my first shiny was a poochyena in pokemon emerald, but i didnt know what shinies were back then, and i deleted the save file...................... i have been crying ever since. :(
That's not so bad. At least you can tell it's shiny. The only two shinies I have ever found currently are a female unfezant and a shiny clefairy which both are shades of their original colors and barely tell the difference.

I spent 15 straight hours breeding zoroarks to see if I could get a shiny zorua, one of the zoroarks was stolen and replaced by a hatched and evolved zorua I got from the eggs from my friend. after 15 hours and 129 non shiny zoruas, I almost had a heart atack. it was THE zorua. It was 2 am. I then went out on the wild looking for an axew, and do you know what happened? pokerus. pokerus happened. exactly one week later, at about the same time, I was looking for a cryogonal, and you know what I found? a shiny woobat. luckiest week ever.

Doubt many people can say that they have never seen a legit shiny in multiple pokemon generations, yet get Pokerus TWICE from two separate generations like I did! (For anyone who's curious, the two pokemon who initially got infected was Metagross Lvl 63 from Pokémon Ruby and Crobat Lvl 82 from Pokémon Pearl.)
My first shiny experience:
I was playing my Heart Gold game I got for my birthday or Christmas, I can't remember, and I run into this Shiny Bellsprout. Keep in mind, I was only 7 or 8 at the time, and I hardly had a grasp on Pokemon. My older brother was playing his Xbox and telling me what to do along the way if I got stuck. I had an underleveled Cyndaquil and he told me to train up my Cyndaquil, named Bob, because, I, well, was hilarious, and to catch a Mareep. I ran into a Bellsprout and noticed the odd coloring and sparkle effect. I said, "Cool, a glitter gold bellsprout!" And my brother just stopped and was like "what?!" He had found himself a shiny digglet on Fire Red, so he had a grasp of Shinies. He stopped his game and came over to me. He is stunned and mutters "Catch that thing!" I was too cool for school, and said, "No, there are too many bellsprouts already" and ran away. He was stunned and then told me the vilocity of the situation. I really didn't understand, but then I always trusted my brother, and now I shiny hunt on occasion. There's probably a life lesson in there somewhere.

My first shiny was also in Heart Gold. I was wandering around route 1 going to a pokemon center, all of my Pokemon were about level 6 and I had an encounter. It was a Pidgey, then it sparkled. At the time I didn't know what Shinys were, but I still got super exited. I got it down to red and caught it. Now its the strongest Pokemon in my copy of Sun and Moon. It also had almost perfect IVs too :D.

When I was little I used to think shiny pokemon were just a game glitch. And when I was younger, I was scared of any glitch screwing up my game. Therefor, I never caught a shiny Pokemon besides Garados who for some reason I didn't realize was a shiny until years later. I got a pokemon card with a shiny pokemon and thought "They're exploiting a game glitch...?" and that's when I realized they were made on purpose.
I've had Pokerus twice, completely random, but I've never once seen a shiny Pokemon, and I've played since Blue ;-;

The second shiny I ever found was in Pearl in the zone you unlock after the elite four with all of the gen 1 and 2 pokes. It was a Weezing. I immediately got it down to about 5% health, threw a ball only to have it pop out then immediately use Explosion. It was the most heart-wrenching moment for me in pokemon.
+Randy “Macho Man” Savage -sighs- At least you could battle it, I once encountered a random shiny Claydol on Ruby while I was exploring the Sky Pilar, I wanted to throw a ball to avoid any accident and as soon as I threw it broke free and used frigging _explosion_ was the first and only shiny I found in that game and the second in the third generation, my first shiny was a Poochyena in Emerald (I still have her in AS).

I said best looking not "the best" battle wise (and a lot of pokemon got screwed on that gen regardless of the typing, at least in my opinion it was more species wise).

Ikuto Aikou Arevalo It is the single most common poke in gen 3 in terms of how often and where they appear so you had a high chance to encounter one based solely on the number of times you are going to encounter poochyena. Realistically overall you have the highest chance to encounter shiny poochyena, wingull and tentacool since you see them most frequently.
Tbh if anyone farmed shiny starters in gen 3 they have a serious mental issue.

I wanted to share a recent shiny story;
Since Pokémon Bank is announced to close in the near future, I decided to revisit all DS and 3DS games and transfer as many as possible. When revisiting my copy of Y, I found a bunch of eggs randomly traded to me by friends. These eggs all had different Pokémon in them and were completely untouched. After quickly hatching them, my second to last egg yielded a surprise. A shiny goomy. This egg would have been lost to time when I reset my game if I hadn’t searched my boxes and hatched the remaining Pokémon that were left behind.

I have 3 stories about shinys!
1: Diamond; I was in stark mountain. I was determained to catch Heatran and make it a part of my team but i had forgotten to buy repels, instead of exiting the cave and buying repels i decided to tough it out and make my way through. Wave after wave of pokemon i began to lose my mind because one would appear AFTER EVERY 2 STEPS! Then...right at the entrance of Heatran's room...There it was...A shiny Slugma...I caught that thing in a heartbeat and now it's a proud member of my team in Diamond and White, even replacing Heatran. I had never been happier to forget to buy repels in my life.
2: White; Route 5. After a stressful batte with Elesa and her stupid "Volt switch spamming" Emolgas i decided to do some grinding to overlevel my team for Clay because i didnt want to end up with the water guy telling me "HEY! GET WATER TYPES THEY'RE GOOD AGAINTS GROUND!" when he was a Seismitoad...After some levels and a few evolutions i found a shiny Minccino. I caught it and tried to train it...But the f$cker was so damn fragile with piss-poor stats! I SWEAR GLASS WAS MORE DURABLE THEN IT! So i dumped it in my PC until i found out i could get a munchlax by trading a Cinccino. So i pulled out a shiny stone, evolved it and traded it away without a second thought. HAVE FUN TRAINING SOMETHING WEAKER THEN A WET PAPER BAG FATA$$!
3:Black 2: This was a copy borrowed from a friend. Everything was normal until i got to route 3. I found a shiny Audino. I was like "Holy sh$t! THAT IS RARE AS HELL!" So i caught it and made it part of my team. Then afterwards i found a shiny Blitzel and was like "2 IN A ROW!" and caught it. Then a shiny Purrlion came up and i was like "I AM THE LUCKIEST BASTARD IN THE WORLD!" So i told my friend about it...He laughed his a$$ cause what really happend was he stuck his action replay in my DS while i wasnt looking and activated the "all shiny code"...I got angry and never gave him back Black 2 or his action replay...

I found 3 shinies in my experience of playing pokemon. The first one was the shiny gyarados in crystal (and i caught it), my next one was a shiny kangaskhan in LeafGreen, and that one ran away, and I played Pokemon Gold and found a completely random shiny ho-oh.
I've only played 3 generations of Pokemon. Pokemon R/B/Y, D/P, and X/Y. It was only until very recently that I encountered my first shiny. It was a random encounter in the tall grass - no Poke Radar or anything. And what did I find? Shiny Goomy (now Goodra). I call her Maynard.
I feel so sad about my red gyarados... So I grew up with Generation 4 and I was just fishing one day. Bored out of my mind, I find out that I fished a red gyarados. I caught it and kept it as a treasure. Much later, I get more into pokemon and find out about the red gyarados in the lake of rage..... You can probably tell how much value that gyarados in my Gen 4 game lost when I figured this out.
When i played gen 3 before i had pokeballs i found a shiny poochyena...

I got SOOOOO many shinies from wonder trade in Alpha Sapphire. However, my only legit shiny was from chain fishing. Yesterday I watched a different vid about how to get shiny Pokemon. Chain Fishing came up and I immediately tried. I got a combo of 19, but accidently missed. But then, after a chain of 28, there he was.

I will never forget my first shiny encounter - mainly since the shiny is my favorite Pokemon for shinies. So far it's been the only time I ever used a master ball in all my life. After catching her, I was jumping up and down for almost 2 hours.
It was female Mienfoo in Black 2. Today, she is now the pride and joy in my Y team as a level 100 shiny Mienshao.
Today I have encountered over 20 shinies - and hatched 6 using the Masuda Method, but still Mienfoo's appearance will forever remain with me, no other shiny will ever compare to that moment.
almost forgot to mention - at that time, Mienfoo was also my #1 favorite Pokemon, that was until Watchog took the #1 spot.

Meinfoo was my first ever shiny. In Pokemon Black, I went to see what Pokemon would appear at the route 8 swarm. Crogunk? okay! I caught one and immediately wanted to evolve it. I take it from the box then head out to the field just outside the entrance to Dragonspiral Tower. First Pokemon I encountered was that Meinfoo with blue highlights. My heart was racing so much, but I caught it. He's now in my Black 2, and I'm glad he is. My Pokemon Black got thrown away by accident, but I at least still have my lovely shiny.
I tought shiney pokemon was a myth, I played pokemon during 10 years before finding my first shiney, it was a lapras and I catched it with a safari-ball... I failed like 30 lapras before and catched the shiney at the first try... luckiest day of my life!

My first (besides Raged Gyrados) was Zubat in Emerald, fainted it by accident because I was tired. Turned off the power. Then I got a Pidgey in Fire Red, my favorite Bird Pokemon, now I like Talon Flame, but Pidgeot always holds a special place in my heart!

I found a shiny Riolu in my 15th run on X and I ran out of pokeballs. I threw my 3DS across my room and almost broke it.

Throughout all my years I've actually managed to catch every single shiny pokemon. However, most of them was found in X and Y using the pokemon finder method where you look for shiny grass. On top of that, I own every pokemon game so I accumulated many event shiny pokemon and traded for shiny pokemon I actually needed. To this day I have a ton of extra event pokemon that I really don't need or even use. I would estimate that it has taken me about 9 years to get every one of them, but I did it. With that said, my least favorite method of shiny hunting is the dreaded egg hatching method. I remember having over 100 phiones (baby manaphy) at a time trying to get a shiny one shiny and I wonder traded them all, but after 1,145 eggs there was a shiny phione. However, my first ever shiny was tan pikachu lol! He was terrible. His moves were lame and the fact he was tanner than I am saddened me so I quit using him entirely!

Paige Griffith You can't legally have every single one; Xerneas and Yvetal are shiny locked in the only games they appear in. This means that if you do actually have every single one, then either you or one of the people you traded with cheated to get their shinies.

i had... only 2 shiny encouters. dont worry. i caught both.
my first was shiny sandile in Y. it was post game i was crossing the spike path (ya know, the rhyhorn one) i was gonna get more fossils but i didnt waste my money on repels. then i stepped on the green sandy crocodile. you shouldve heard how loud i screamd (actually no you woud be deaf it was so loud) and i caught it... IN A DIVE BALL. this is how i began to respect dive balls.
my second shiny was in moon. shiny gumshoos. i was on route 14 or 16 i think and i was gonna test my steel z move w/ diglett i headed to the grass and then... "is that a shiny?" *sparkle* "OH MY ARCEUS YES YES YAAAAAAS!!!!!!!!!!!" i caught it in quick ball. this is how i began to respect quick balls.
That Red Gyrados has a special place in my heart, he was my first exposure to Shiny Pokemon and you cannot get him like that anymore (with Home indicators that specify it is the Lake of Rage one). I couldn't find Shinies until Sword came out.

I walked into the Bush and immediately got a shiny Gulpin. I felt so cheated, because I knew I was never going to get a shiny Pokémon in the wild for at least two years. I GOT A SHINY PILE OF GOO.

Magikarp will bounce and tackle and splash the crap out of you for that.
That's not so bad. At least you can tell it's shiny. The only two shinies I have ever found currently are a female unfezant and a shiny clefairy which both are shades of their original colors and barely tell the difference.
Don't let it evolve. Shiny Magikarp are good in trades, but everybody has a shiny Gyarados.
