    Purchasing a small apartment sounds a good idea before purchasing a house later. How difficult is it there to sell a property? What is the average time frame? Also, I don't see you email addy anywhere. How can I contact you?

    I think it's wonderful that France maintains it's culture in their foods. Too many countries are compromising their cultural identity for tourists and migrants.

    $600 "per month" for gas heating? I thought Provence is much warmer than Paris?

    What is the best way to determine affordability of different small towns in France? I can’t find any apartment listings to gauge. We want to visit different areas based on areas we could afford to retire in. Def don’t want to look at buying before being in an area a while. What town are you in; did you say you are NEXT to Toulon or in??

    Can a US or Canadian citizen obtain resident permit based on passive income to retire in France? What's the process like? Can US/Canadian open a bank account ahead of applying?

    • @tuularampont9341
      @tuularampont9341 4 года назад +3

      Yes, you can obtain a long-term visa and eventual permanent residency off of passive income. You will show financial statements, or a letter from the goverment (social security benefits) when you apply. You can open a bank account when you arrive. I do believe it's not possible beforehand. Here's a video I did on applying for a long-term visa if you find it helpful: ruclips.net/video/a1ICUaUdIao/видео.html (disclaimer: the sound isn't the best)

    Was interested in knowing more about income tax obligation for expats living in France. How is income tax obligation arrived at?

    • @tuularampont9341
      @tuularampont9341 3 года назад +1

      Hi Beth, France taxes people who work in France. The income that you pay taxes on in the US can’t be taxed due to a tax treaty between the two countries. There is a French “wealth tax” on worldwide property assets of $1.3 million or more. Hope that’s helpful.

    Health care for a retired American ? You said they can’t charge you if you don’t work?

    • @tuularampont9341
      @tuularampont9341 4 года назад +2

      Hello, they can't take anything off of passive income (pensions, SS benefits)- so if that's your only income, than you can't be charged for healthcare (due to a tax treaty with the US).

    • @bethbrowning4952
      @bethbrowning4952 3 года назад +1

      In terms of healthcare, should a retired person carry private health insurance when living in France even though the public system is available?

    • @tuularampont9341
      @tuularampont9341 3 года назад +2

      People generally get “top up” insurance to cover the 30% not covered by the system. We have that. It comes more into play if you need a medical procedure that, while cheaper that the US, will be more costly that a simple doctor’s visit. There is a lot of choice for insurance providers.
