When KState's PG got hurt, I told my wife..."Attack him now!" It never happened. Too many players thinking and not reacting. I was waiting for that Spartan defense, it never happened. I was waiting for MSU to increase the Offensive tempo and it never happened. That last play was too cerebral and was a microcosm of the entire game. Sad ending that should've never occurred. Credit to K State, they played well to win.
I thought we had a terrible game compared to what was possible. All night I was yelling about lackadaisical defense, guys standing around with their head in the clouds. Something was off. Nowell is good but not that good. We gave him easy passes all night. The offensive gameplan was confusing. There’s no reason one guy should beat you. If they had played just squared up man on man defense and not helped so much we would have been fine on that end. Terrible awareness of Massoud all night long. The last play was a joke and that’s on Tom. It’s almost like the broadcast was mocking the Mr. March trope
I’ve said it all year Malik Hall has been a bum. He hurt MSU all year and people claimed he makes them better. That last 45 secs proved what I’ve been saying all year. Please don’t come back next year Malik.

Or how about other UM fans doing so while watching Michigan hockey play in the Frozen Four next Thursday??? That's how ridiculous those spartan fans looked at the UM-Msu basketball game wearing TCU shirts.
Uh if Izzos brain had actually been functioning in that game he would have schemed his defense so that his team would stop releasing from the guy on the low block to double team no well. The reason nowell got 19 assists was because the defender on the block kept releasing his guy and going out to double team nowell whenever he started driving towards the basket, nowell would then easily see this and feed the big man down on the low post for an easy 2 points. When MSU’s players had just single covered nowell KSU scored a lot less points because nowell would then attempt to play hero ball and shoot it himself because the guy on the low post would still be covered. Bottom line is MSU should have won that game but they didn’t because IZZO had an unbelievably horrible gameplan on defense and failed to recognize that he had to adjust his defense to not double team nowell.
They had plenty of opportunities to win the game. Make some free throws, make even just a couple of stops, make the open shots. Oh well, but I don't agree with wanting Izzo to keep his mouth shut. He's been here almost 30 years, that buzzer beater Nowell shot on one leg just chucking it up was LUCKY, and other contested shots can be argued but I think they were also LUCKY. He's a Hall of Famer, let him tell it how it is. Izzo still gave them far more credit than the "lucky" statement, and acknowledged that they failed to respond to even the lucky plays.

We shut down Jalen Picket, Boogie Ellis and Tyler Kolek, all with comparable stats to Nowell. When you see Nowell just fire pass after pass to open guys under the basket, I wanted to vomit. The turnovers were bad enough, but easy baskets is exactly the last thing I expected to see. And I have no clue what the point of the lineups Izzo was running with in the 1st half. It reminded me of the OSU game where it just felt like Izzo didn't care and the players had to carry the team. Maybe Izzo thought we could run with KState, start making 3s and win a track meet. Defense be damned. It almost worked. Next year. No one expected this team to get to the S16.

Still a solid season, there's a lot to build off of next season with all the recruits and seniors hopefully coming back. Could be worse, we could be the other school down the road.
I’m a big ten guy and was rooting for MSU but I had to admit it was exciting and fun to watch. But I get it if your an MSU fan, the defense getting schooled by Nowell had to be hard to watch.
If they won that game barring a total and utter collapse against FAU, they would have at least made the final four and had a pretty decent shot at beating San Diego state in the final four. They would have definitely lost to UCONN in the title game because Sunoco was too unstoppable, and UCONNS guard play, their offensive flow, and their ball movement was some of the best in the tournament.
Markquis Nowell look like Oscar Robertson last night. Tom Izzo could draw up every Defense in the book to try and stop him. It wasn’t gonna work. I’m going to give kids a State their flowers and say they wanted it more than Michigan State that night.
I think there doing a disservice to Noel due to his size. I watched every dribble of there game vs Kentucky before State, he did it to them too although more with his scoring. He had 27 and 9 assists. The kid can play. Period.
