- NJ surf fishing doesn't get better than fast paced, run and gun style casting while chasing down giant pods of bunker getting blasted by trophy sized striped bass! Second fish was my biggest ever: hope you guys enjoy!
Gear used -
Rod : 9 foot ODM genesis
Reel : Van Staal VS150
Line : Berkley x9 braided fishing line 30 pound test
Leader : Daiwa 50 pound flouro carbon leader
Clips : Tactical Anglers power clips
Bucktail : 1 ounce S&S bucktail jig
Popper: 2.25 ounce Super Strike Little Neck Popper
You did a great job handling those fish. I'm 75 yrs old. In the 60's and 70's there were blitzes every 3 to 4 days late Sept till Thanksgiving. The blitzes were 1/2 + mile long and 1/4 mile wide. Stripers and big blues. There were so many birds it was difficult to not snag one. Not long after, there were next to none. You know now how precious the resource is. Still too many do not.

What type of wind works best for the fall run in nj, trying to plan a trip off the conditions
Out in the surf, west, southwest are best. Light to moderate south is awesome too.
Good job on catch and release. Love to see fish that thick in the water. You’ve got to work a lot harder down by us south in Maryland, and they’ve been absent in the fall. Still, I had a really nice spring.
All the big fish were in the bay December and January, best it’s been in a while in SOMD

Nah, I mostly practice catch and release. I’ll keep flounder in the summer time. But usually never stripers
