Hello John, I let my capping drain into the honey bucket then take it out and put about 10m from hives and let the girls clean the wax. The capping come out nice and fluffy and when melted has very little honey residue on the cake. I like your solar wax melter, one of the best I've seen. Very informative how to make candles videos.
Thanks for your tips and knowledge John 👍 I'm going to give candle making a go. P.s Something about your video made me remember the clip from The Two Ronnies "Four Candles".. "No Fork handles, handles for forks" 😅😊 God bless 🙏
Hi John. Not managed to pluck up the courage to make stuff with the wax. Rendered down some today using a large slow cooker. Old comb wax wasn’t the cleanest and probably not the cleanest yet. Will have to do it again a few more times to get it as clean as your capping’s wax. Thanks for another great video. Looking forward to many more.
Hi Marcus, I have found when I sell honey at the village fete people love to buy my candles i can not make enough of them, this time text year you will be a millionaire, see you John.
Hi John, thanks for another great video. I hope to make some candles so your hints and tips are really useful. I'm off to hunt for Bain Maries on eBay now!😁
Perfect video!! As soon as I saw you sitting at your dining room table, I already loved it! It was like spending an afternoon with a grandparent, as a child. (LOVE the Denby jug!! I'm going to have to get myself one of those.) You covered everything, took the time to explain, and did I hear there are more videos about beekeeping?? Subbed, liked, and going now to look for your videos on beekeeping, as we have some acres of land on a lake, and I was suggesting beekeeping to my eldest son, as something he might be interested in doing. You deserve way MORE subs and views, I will recommend you to my son, and to others. Thanks!!
I am so grateful for your very kind comments, I would love you to get in to beekeeping yourself so if my channel helps you in anyway it would make my day, and thanks for sharing my channel with your family hope you are all keeping well regards john,
Thanks for this - lots of great advice, especially about filtering the wax through muslin. Just wondering how to get the wax off the cloth afterwards? Or do you just have to use a new cloth each time?
Hi , hope you make lots of lovely candles 🕯 , the muslin can only be used once, the used ones I light my log burner with but obviously you would need to be carful doing this, I have used old sheets cut up but muslin seems the best , happy beekeeping regards john 🤓👍
Thanks for a wonderful video, John. Do you use a mould release spray to pre-treat the silicone moulds in order to get a clean finish on the textured moulds or do you find they come out OK without it?
Roy's The Boy spray silicon mould release in each mould take hold of the week with a pair of pliers and give a gentle tug it will come out if not then hold the metal mould under hot water and it will definitely release them regards john .
Just found your channel. The metal molds are hard to keep from leaking. Glad you showed what you use. Did you spray the moulds with a release agent of some kind? I would have liked to see you remove the candle from the metal mould
Hi, I should have shown the candle release , I spray a silicone mould release in the metal mould, if it will not release I run hot water over the mould and as soon as the candle is out, roll the candle between two pieces of glass for a smooth finish, obviously bee careful with the breakable glass, Happy beekeeping from John
Very interesting as I am just getting into it. One thing though, how do you put the wick in the metal tapered moulds, do you use some sort of needle to pull the wick through?
Sorry for the delay in replying, I’m on holiday south Italy 🇮🇹, this can be quite fiddly, I just poke the wick through the small hole keep poking through and shaking until wick comes out the large end , but put a meter or more through and then you can just cut for your next candle , happy beekeeping from John
Stuart York Hi Again to you Stuart. they do seem to range from £10-£30 I mentioned at Christmas time to my family I would quite like some moulds and low and behold I get them at Christmas the candles make a great addition when you are selling honey on a honey stall 🤓
@@johnbeemansaunders6567 Thanks John. I've forwarded your reply to my wife, so 🤞 I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas on wasp management. Best Stuart
Nuruz Zaman Hi Nuruz No it is not old string you can purchase this from bee-equipment.co.uk online I am watching enough to live just by the warehouse there are all different sizes of wick it could be trial and error as Thick candles will need a thicker week and thin candles thinner wicks you need the right one to get the right Wick burner height hope this helps kind regards John
@@thepipesmokingbeekeeper8917 Okay put a good spray of Wax candle makers silicone in the mould before adding liquid wax, If the candles do not come out easily place the whole thing under some very hot running water from your tap at the same time pull the candle out and you will find it comes easily John
