a good way to get more grip on picks you like but you feel they slip, get a razor or a stanley knife (or safety knife etc) and just make a grid pattern (checkerboard) fairly lightly on them, do as many as you need to increase the grip
I like locking tuners and often they are a higher ratio eg standard Fender ping 14 to 1 and locking ping style 18 to 1 as always love all the info you give out so Thank you
I rewatched this and reminded me I put a couple of those items on my list for Christmas and Santa Girlfriend hooked me up... and she didn't even Pick on me! Thanks on the pics by the way...I had already purchased some, but had no idea about the lines or thickness. All the best!
I've been in a quest to find the perfect pick.. lol I bought a case similar to the first one you showed. I like the ring case. I found a Music store online called elderly instruments that sells most picks one at a time so if you want to try a bunch of different ones you can just pick 1 or 2 of each one you want to try. Better than buying a whole bag when your not sure if you like it yet or not. I've been having a problem with my pick slipping around in my grip. I like the different Cool Picks. They make so many different ones. I've found I like the Big Stubby ones. All thickness really too. They all have some kind of grip to them. Thanks for the video. 😎👍
yeah I have that Jack problem that spins but I love those lime little DAVA picks and now I know why they also just sit in your hand when you're finger picking they don't fall out of your hand for some reason 😱
I tried Dava picks and liked them a lot at first but then found them kind of a pain for a couple of reasons- one being that I found the rubber extends too far down the face of the pick and can come in contact with the string, which is really distracting when you're not expecting to have a sudden 'grab' happen. Shouldn't need to think about your pick- they should just get out of the way and do their job. (Although, I like the flat rubber end for bass.) But now if I need extra grip on a pick, I make tiny cuts on them with a razor or spread a very thin layer of Shoe Goo on the top half. I tried silicone caulking, but it peels off easily- Shoe Goo stays put. My pick has a tendency to shift position when I play so I often want a little extra grip.
Just ordered a set of mixed Dave picks many thanx,..two projects I like making stuff,..so going to find an old vacume cleaner,..and make a lead retractor,..and the comments were not too favourable on pick holder but with Davas grip should solve the problem,..or guess what ..yep i'll make one,..64yrs old with time on my hands lol,..nice to meetcha man,..K.Wolf
Dava picks are colour coded,,,, Lime green is nylon, Red is Delrin, the other colours are Poly Gel... obviously the material difference gives a different sound.... for the record i have now switched to the Pykmax system which in all honesty i thought was going to be a gimmik, however, its all i use now and my picking has improved big time... i didnt like the picks that come with it so i cut a slot in an Ultex sharp pick ( which is my fave pick) and it works perfectly... i wont be going back to normal picks... oh and btw... that ESP tool also tightens those splined 3 way Gibson style switch nuts, you know.... the ones that everyone uses plyers on.....lol
While those Dava picks with the rubber sleeves/covers on them are cool, I have always hated the way they would snag on the string on the little notches that hold the rubber in place. Kinda nitpicky, but they have a big selection of them that are also pretty great.
Hmmm, those pics look interesting. I've often found myself wishing I had a thick pic as I play with a thin pick... and vice versa... all within the same song. I love thin pics for the speed they afford, but when I strum slower, or do arpeggios, I prefer a stiffer pic for better clarity and tone. This would be the best of both worlds! Thanks!!!
Yo Philip just curious about the Marshall Class 5 amp. Could you do a review or comment about small watt amp heads for gigging in small venues? I really liked the Class 5 and wondered if Marshall would bring it back or something similar?
+Phillip McKnight That would be awesome!! I am really excited to hear your news about the new Fender BASS BREAKER Amp series coming soon. Please keep us posted Thanks
Phil, how do the generic ESP guitar tools that sell for about 1/3rd the cost of the ESP branded wrenches compare? I'm like you in that I'll probably end up with three. One in my gig bag, one in my project studio/guitar mod laboratory and one at our practice space. I can buy three of the generic ones for one ESP brand, hence my question as to your knowledge or from what you've heard from the community about generics. If they're overall just as good, heck I can afford to buy a dozen and give them to my string and fret buddies as a little Christmas gift.
Man, I never realized how into picks some people get. I've always just used literally anything I can get my hands on, hell, I've used bread clips before.

just an idea since it looks like the dava picks are meant for grip
I've had that same metronome since the 80's - still going strong.
My pick holder is the entire floor in the basement.
I cut a 4x4 square (4squares in the shape of a square) at the back of my pick and its helped a LOT
I have a Planet Waves pick that has a built-in tuner. In a pinch it works great for acoustic or electric.
Love Dava picks. Those and jazz xl are the only things I use.

Thanks for the rundown , always useful and entertaining !!!
That ESP Wrench is really cool!

Cool wrench, cool stuff, cool video, those Dava picks would drive me insane!
I like Clayton picks 80mm

Love Dava picks!

You just gave me a great idea. What about a video of 5 or 6 low wattage amps with a live band to see if you can hear them.

just found out the ESP wrench link fom ebay doesnt exist anymore. Any idea where I can order one? Thanks in advance.
The wrench is nice, but if your tighting output jack etc, don't you have to take it out so you don't spin pot or jack and break off wires?
Sometimes but there is another wrench for that
Man, I never realized how into picks some people get. I've always just used literally anything I can get my hands on, hell, I've used bread clips before.
I'm new to your channel and I really like It. Cheers from Israel.
Tamir Keren ישראל זה מקום רע..

There's a version of the ESP wrench on wish.com for dirt cheap.
