The fact that Camilo was originally supposed to be that stereotypical angry teen cousin and is now the mischievous, playful, and super-caring cousin is absolutely adorable 🥺
Finding out Dolores' was orginally accosiated with music was the coolest thing. Like I was wondering how cool it would be if one of the Madrigals had a gift with music , and Dolores seemed luch such a perfect match I never thought about. Her playing the guitar and being able to be in tune every single time because of her super hearing was such a cool idea
This is super interesting, it also makes sense why there is so much more focus on Isabella and Luisa in the final movie. It looks like they were pretty much established from the beginning while the cousins went through some edits and changes.
I couldn’t tell what IRL era this film was set in because clothing and technology in rural areas tend to change at a different rate. So if have no idea when Encanto was set in 1900s? The dad at least had a modern looking suit and they had clocks.
The release of the book is perhaps the greatest tribute for so many artists working on so brilliant concepts, as so many ones get abandoned for the final movie. I'm wondering mostly about the concept at 1:21: It seems like Mirabel had been always the main character and what did stay were her green glasses, and she was probably even more "geeky". Also the concepts for Isabela and Luisa as her two sisters had always been the core. But the other characters are also intriguing. I interpret Miranda as Mirabel's mother, together with her husband, upstairs. Besides Mirabel and Isabel, we see the fire-themed cousin; and besides Luisa, the animal-themed cousin, who was supposed to be older than Antonio. The row higher did include probably two uncles and two (twin?) aunts, Pepa and Eta. Then probably the grandparents; and finally the one with the flower design, called Princesa. I wonder who she was supposed to be - a cousin? An aunt? And then right as statue, the woman as statue, Alejandra. Was she the secret, mysterious aunt before the story with Bruno was introduced (; ?
It says how Pedro is a writer. He writes poems. I also read an article about that how the dos oruguitas song is likely one of his poems. Makes me think how Abuela wanted Isabela to marry Mariono. Isabela looks more like young Alma. And Mariono looks a bit like Pedro, and he also writes poems.
Looking at 4:50 I can't help but wonder that maybe to be more "useful" to the village and please Abuela, Dolores could've picked up instruments to play. She still would've had her enhanced hearing, yet imagine how sharp it is, to the point Dolores immediatly realizes what notes and tunes are what and how they should be played perfectly
This art book is beautiful! It's great to see the designs and the landscapes.❤️ Estoy muy agradecida como Colombiana que Disney representara las cosas más bonitas de mi país.
Lo que mas amo de Colombia es los colores, las flores las aves tan exoticas, todo es colorido y diverso, inclusive la gente multicultural desce la nativa Americana, africana,Europea,Asia y todo los continentes
It's kinda cool how though this is a film of colombia the cultural exchange of other countries is still shown while still keeping the movie authentically colombian. Specifically Antonio and his father felix remind me a lot of my own family members in Cuba with both how they look and dress.
Now I need to find someone who can imitate Bill Watterson's style far better than I can to draw me Antonio and the jaguar in the style of Calvin and Hobbes.
I always wondered…..I heard on another video that it’s possible Alejandra was meant to be dead….since she was Grey in the picture on the right. If She was meant to be dead….and probably becomes Casita…..What would her reason as to not Giving Mirabel a gift be if they kept the original concept?
😯dang that's a seriously strong concept!!!! they prolly hit a wall because the " power" is not transferrable in that sense, someone has to die to take over? and I think the current one is more so that they want something like love and support to be a higher power than a "superficial" power that is required to keep the other powers alive.
Your internal dialog/motivation game is strong!!! It could be that she did get her power but it’s not physically visible. I gotta rewatch and see if there are slight hints on that. I didn’t like moana on the first round but enjoyed it a lot more on the second round. But that means the internal motivations didn’t come through the first round. also sadly, sometimes animations don’t go too deep into things as time runs out.
is there a part i missed where it talked abt Camilo’s room? I keep hearing descriptions of Camilo’s room being filled with mirrors and a stage, but i can’t quite find the original source of that. Is this just a fan thing or has it been confirmed somewhere online?
I think this is a gorgeous and very insightful artbook ✨the only thing I don't understand is why the cover and the dustjacket are such dark colours, I would have preferred something much more lively and joyous, but oh well
If they used the 2D art style from this book in the movie instead of 3D it would have been much more interesting and unique. Like it is it's just a meh.

thanks for nugget on production!
Fun Fact: Encanto was originally going to be set in the 1950s. That would have been a totally different type of story
Thanks for the share. This board is slowly becoming a wealth of ideas.
I’ve actually been wondering that myself. What era IS the film set in?
Encanto is set in the 50s tho!! Rural Colombia was very different to the states in those times!!
I couldn’t tell what IRL era this film was set in because clothing and technology in rural areas tend to change at a different rate. So if have no idea when Encanto was set in 1900s? The dad at least had a modern looking suit and they had clocks.
It takes place in the early 1900’s

now that intrigues me imagine a movie or disney+ episode on each character leading up to the destruction.

i like to think that Dolores liked to play music because it would make her relax from all the noise she heard because of her gift

Thanks for checking it out. Def one for the keeps!
I love how the internet is slowly piecing and figuring out what this mystery of the madrigals and casita is all about or ….is it all due to Bruno?O.O
We don't talk about Bruno no no no

yeah! def they didnt really show Dolores contributing to the village scenes. prolly they had to have the dad play the piano instead to contribute.
Kudos to the designers! Everything looks full of life
