- When a Chasid asked the Rebbe Rashab, “What is a Chasid?” The Rebbe Rashab answered him, “A Chasid is a lamplighter.” He has an obligation to ignite the spark in his fellow Jew’s G-dly soul.
Even when the other person seems too distant from Torah, the Chasid must know that when his soul is kindled, he will realize the truth of his situation and begin to grow and develop. On the other hand, a person may be well-versed in Torah but lack a basic fear of G-d. Here, too, the Chasid has a job to do.

Im so proud I own ,"The Old Lamplighter Song ", Charles Tobias wrote in 1940. A True Story as the Rebbe says about, "Lamplighters". My Grandmothers Father was a Chabad Rabbi from 1866 and lived to 1971 and saw him at 105 in a hospital when I was 14.. Portland,Oregon. is where Rabbi Moshe Wilhelm and Devora Wilhelm, I belong to there shul.BH
