Word ! My first camera was given to me...the Canon AE-1. Learned photography on that thing ! But the first camera that I bought with my own money, was the Canon T2i ! Put a lot of work in on that camera, and started my professional work / career on that camera. First images published in a magazine was also on that camera. I'd still recommend it today ! lol.
Canon AE-1 is a great starting point! Even great to pick up and run around with today. Canon T2i made the SL2 possible! Where can I find some of your work? What are you running around with these days?
We all start somewhere. And anything's better than our phone, right? Great stuff. I went with point and shoots for quite a while, and my first "real" camera from decades ago was a Nikon D60. Then, recently, a Sony A6000. Loved your list of the cameras you want. How fun! I maybe should look at a list like that. My current camera is the Fuji X-T5 and I think I can be comfy with it for a while. It's got a lot that I love.
Hey Chris! Good to see you down in the comments again! Agreed! We all start somewhere! Anything’s better than the phone! Phone can be helpful at times, but if I know I can take the camera, I’m taking the camera! I’d take the point and shoot any day! My list has been pretty consistent, and if and when I’m out there looking for used gear I keep an eye out for the right price. The Nikon D60 paved the way for great cameras. The X-T5 is a great camera. Likely to compete with and/or outperform anything for the next 5-10 years. Haven’t had the privilege to use, but anything Fuji create captured gold. What’s your go to film simulation with the XT5?
@@DonTinsley - I saw Classic Cuban Negative and never looked back. But lately, because of a challenge, I've been using a B&W film sim on my camera, and then editing in color in Lightroom. Trying to challenge myself to get better with composition instead of just leaning on color.
Classic Cuban Negative? I will have to look that one up! Finding ways to challenge yourself as a photographer is one of the best part about the entire journey.

The camera that was deemed the best camera to learn photography. Pentax K-1000 purchased at the now defunct Service Merchandise.
Film of course!
Film is a good place to start! How’s the Nikon bodies treating you?

@@DonTinsley I feel the same way. Challenges make the game of life more fun.
