    Distractions…interesting subject. I can relate. Back in February, i rekindled my faith in Christ and began reading the good book daily. Don’t know what happened but, a profound clarity began speaking out from the words. Joined a Church here in Japan and look forward to my daily (eye-opening ) readings. The interesting thing about retirement (67) is I now have time to do the things I couldn’t do my prior 41 1/2 years. Now I cram so much into my day craving learning something new. Language, writing, reading. My advice is…. You start a career one day and the next thing you know is it sails by too quickly. I mean in a flash! Then you get to a time in your life when you say…. I WISH i had done this or that. Satisfy your mind and soul. Find someone to share life with that gives your heart that constant smile and ahhhhhhhh! We never know what tomorrow brings. I firmly believe “he”has a purpose for us all and we need to follow it. After I lost my wife of 25 1/2 years to cancer….i thought my life was over. But one day paths cross in extremely unusual ways…. then you find someone and end up living in Japan. Meeting new people, experiencing new things and seeking that fulfillment that will reveal what my next thing in life will impact others. I feel it every day. Follow it!

    The problem with gear is… I either bring too much or the wrong lens! Happened again this past week on a mini 3 day trip. BTW… just got the Wotancraft Pilot 7L. Backpack drove me nuts! Having to take bag off to get gear. Forces me to carry less. After all, I’m not a donkey. Really like the build quality.

      @DonTinsley Месяц назад

      I’ll have to look into that Pilot 7L. I have a few slings, but the one thing they do right is the size of the bag, straps are a bit uncomfortable though. It’s been a journey.

    • @DonTinsley
      @DonTinsley 2 месяца назад

      Thank you! If price isn’t a factor then my advice would be to start with what you want to experience. I’ve not used these cameras, but here’s my thought process for if I were to consider these two. X100VI is a fixed lens, rangefinder body, a little more compact and has a fixed lens, so you are committed to that one body/lens comb. Unless you invest in the lens attachments which would be another $900 - $1200 for all three to replicate different focal lengths. XT5 is interchangeable, body is a bit bigger, more megapixels (however 26 megapixels are enough for what most people need in a camera for). I mostly shoot portraits, real estate, and events. I shoot photo and video and I need the camera to be versatile. I don’t mind having a bigger body beside I generally rig out every camera I own unless it is a photo designated camera. Both camera shoot both photo and video so that’s not an issue. It all goes back to experience. Are you mainly shooting photo?

    Look at those big tasty cinema lenses. Nice. For the non-cine lenses, we have practically the same kit. (Presuming you meant 35mm f1.4, yes? or I don't have the same one). I don't have enough gear to do a gear video, but I always love watching them, and I just love what you put out. Keep it going, DT!

    • @DonTinsley
      @DonTinsley 2 месяца назад

      Yes! The 35mm 1.4. The cine lenses are great. Although they are cheaper than some of the Fuji lenses I own, they produce a quality that just looks different than the photo centric lenses. If you have a kit you enjoy using then it is enough kit to share. If you share let me know! Always great to see you down in the comments!

    We all start somewhere. And anything's better than our phone, right? Great stuff. I went with point and shoots for quite a while, and my first "real" camera from decades ago was a Nikon D60. Then, recently, a Sony A6000. Loved your list of the cameras you want. How fun! I maybe should look at a list like that. My current camera is the Fuji X-T5 and I think I can be comfy with it for a while. It's got a lot that I love.

    • @DonTinsley

      Hey Chris! Good to see you down in the comments again! Agreed! We all start somewhere! Anything’s better than the phone! Phone can be helpful at times, but if I know I can take the camera, I’m taking the camera! I’d take the point and shoot any day! My list has been pretty consistent, and if and when I’m out there looking for used gear I keep an eye out for the right price. The Nikon D60 paved the way for great cameras. The X-T5 is a great camera. Likely to compete with and/or outperform anything for the next 5-10 years. Haven’t had the privilege to use, but anything Fuji create captured gold. What’s your go to film simulation with the XT5?

    I am a professional photographer and use cameras mainly for photography, not video. I would not say that the X-H1 is an entry-level camera, but it is a very good camera for professional users! For beginners there are two drawbacks. Firstly, the camera is quite large and heavy compared to other APSC cameras (such as the X-E3/4 or Sony Alpha 6000 series), so I would recommend a smaller camera for beginners to take on trips. Secondly, the camera has quite complex functions and settings, which are perfect for manual configuration, but may be too complex for beginners. A disadvantage of the camera is the limited battery life, but changing the battery is quick. Secondly, the camera's suitability for video, as it is mainly intended for photography and there are better alternatives for video. I do not understand why most tests focus on the camera's video capabilities. For video I need a completely different setup and lenses than for photography.

    • @DonTinsley
      @DonTinsley 2 месяца назад

      Agreed. Some fair points. Thank you for commenting. The X-H1 is a pro level camera, and can be intimidating to some user. However, I’ve put the X-H1 in the hands of first time shooters and they loved the experience. Of course I dialed in the setting, whether it was full auto, semi auto, or full manual. With a quick rundown of why I set chose the settings, explaining ISO, shutter speed, exposure compensation, and f-stop they felt at home with the camera. Loved the camarera size especially the grip. They did not like the X100f too much because of the size. Of course an entry level camera would be great, but I’d still have to do the same thing with that camera when putting it in the hands of a beginner. Explains the setting and why I set it up that way. Answer any question they have until they feel comfortable enough to explore and experiment. I think the video capabilities of the X-H1 are great based on use case. Battery life is horrendous, but manageable with a few batteries. The recommendations in your comment are great starting points for 90 - 95 percent of users! Id start out with the X-E3/4, or the XS10/20 because you get the compact size, plus the grip. Thank you for sharing this! This was awesome!

      Thank you! Here are a two of the channels I’ve been watching to learn more about color grading and color management. Waqas Qasi and Darren Mostyn. There are a ton of channels out there where you can get free information. Although it isn’t too in depth and they don’t really share the nuances of the process, but more of a how to, you can still learn a ton. The biggest part of the learning process that I’ve found is watching one video at a time and practice/replicate what they’re doing for better understanding and comprehension. I’ve not taken any courses so I cannot recommend a course, but I can recommend these channels. Whenever they post, I watch, listen, learn, practice, and return when I feel I am missing something. • @DonTinsley
      @DonTinsley 2 месяца назад

      Thank you. Yes, I believe you can still color grade even if you use downloaded c-log. You can color grade regardless, whether you're using a standard profile, LOG, or RAW. With color grading and color management you are only pushing and pulling colors as far as the image allows. LOG and RAW allows for much more room to push and pull than the files where contrast and saturation are already baked in. (this is a simplified explanation, but there is much more nuance to it). I am curious as to how well it grades. Would you be willing to send me a few files that you capture from the camera using the downloaded c-log? Which c-log were you able to download onto the camera?

    Nice video. Greetings and hope all is well in your end? My lack of patience with AF on GFX50sii and rendering time pushed me over the top. Took all my Fuji stuff XH2 & XH2S as well and moved to Nikon Z8 & ZF. I’m amazed at the % of nailed shots. Speed of focus and rendering Z8 nice. Sharp lenses and Nikon pushing their system for Film sims. I would say… I really enjoyed the XH2S the best. Very solid video and stacked sensor improves % of nailed shots. I’ll still be following Don-san! Keep’em coming. All the best and stay cool!

      Greeting! All is well, and hope the same for you! You pushed me to get the X-H2s after sharing your experience with it! No regrets! I found one on sale, like new, and ended up getting it for $900 after trading in a few pieces of gear I found collecting dust. Nikon is definitely making a comeback, Bruno would say that Nikon has always produced great quality especially when it comes down to color rendition regardless of the quirks. Same to you as well! Stay awesome 😎!

      Maybe one day Mirrorless cameras will get there when it comes to battery life. The point is shooting with whatever you want regardless of whatever else is out there on the market. Which Nikon are you shooting with? I just might look into. Have some Nikon lenses I’ve been adapting to other bodies and I’m looking for a Nikon to walk around with.

      @@DonTinsley it will not. e=mc2. so bigger battery always mean heavier camera, and it destroyed the illusion of mirrorless is smaller and lighter. i agreed, camera and lens are just tools to creates arts, rembrant can makes masterpiece with charcoal, while we cant even we have the most expensive crayon. i dont have a nikon, currently using nx300, 450d, and em5 mkii. i just borrowing my friend d750 and it battery last very long. currently im very interest with Xh1 and z5 for wedding, but it seems xh1 battery very unreliable for work horse.
