It really is appalling to think about the relatively small sums of money that so many SPMR's had their lives ruined over and the huge salaries these people were being paid from tax payers contributions. There must be some kind of repercussion for some of these people. They literally covered up the fact that there were known bugs in the Horizon system and still sent people to jail with that knowledge. This literally the definition of Perverting the course of justice i.e.
" Doing an act tending and intending to pervert the course of public justice is an offence under the common law of England and Wales. Perverting the course of justice can be any of three acts: Fabricating or disposing of evidence. Intimidating or threatening a witness or juror. "

You're so right, and this is the profound irony: Millions and millions of pounds have now been spent by all parties in this entire fiasco, and that doesn't include the huge sums in compensation that the sub postmasters deserve and, hopefully, receive. And then we have reputation. The name of the Post Office is mud, and the reputations of all associated with this cover up have been sullied beyond redemption. And all for what? Just to recover a few thousand pounds which was never stolen in the first place.

What IS it with these bloody witnesses! Brian Altman KC. So damn arrogant and not a little patronising! Trying to control the narrative even as a witness! I found him extremely disrespectful to Mr Beer who, although equal in professional status to Altman, was far superior in manner and demeanour! Altman showed no humility or remorse towards the POL victims, but instead banged on about hindsight and got seriously huffy with all the questions! Well, sirrah, that's what your there for! And had you done your bloody job properly then perhaps there wouldn't have been such an awful miscarriage of justice and you wouldn't be in the hot seat!!! Shame on you! Indeed, shame on ALL those in your profession who failed in their duties to the Court AND the POL victims! 🙏⚖️🙏😤

The blame for all this lies with Post Office and Fujitsu - it is certainly not party political, and any attempt to make it so will ultimately mean that PO and Fujitsu employees (esp at senior level) will get off the hook. Yes, there are some political figures who did not do enough, or were negligent to an extent, but throughout it is absolutely clear that Post Office had no problem in lying to ministers - just look at the way they treated Lord Arbuthnot and other MPs who were trying to help their constituents, all of them stonewalled by the likes of Vennells and van den Bergen.

One point is that there are a number of technical procedures in mediation to arrive at the best possible outcome for both parties, given they're coming from different positions with different values. Neither will get everything they want, but neither gets nothing. Arbitration's more judgmental, deciding based on the rights and wrongs in each side's case. Neither recognise the possibility there is no case.
