You can always set up your 705 to do whisper on 160 meters. Looks like a great antenna! 73

I wish that the 3/8 coil was compatible with 3/8 threaded whips. That way you could skip the coil and connect the whip directly to your mount without having to carry extra pieces

I'm very interested to see the 160 test. I've never been able to 160 i'm in an HOA in Orlando and do not have the room for a 160 antenna. I would also like to say it is very nice to see a new product that has a reasonable price.

    Hi Robert,
I bought the Zachtek Desktop WSPR about 5 years ago for 160 80 30 17. At the time Harry made a custom build for me as those bands were not available. He also mentioned I could try the unit on 40 20 and 15 but never did. Haven't used it for several years. 73 WJ3U

For what I do on my channel, its perfect; its allowing me to test and demonstrate radio performance. Pretty happy with it.

I just received mine yesterday but I have a question. I have three large O rings on the coils. Two on the 160 coil and one on the adjustable coil. Does anyone have an idea what their purpose is?? Quality of construction looks good. Also from the literature the one purpose of the antenna that you did not elaborate on is as a mobile manual screwdriver antenna. They do show you how to properly ground the antenna to the car body in the instruction sheet.

Gabil talked about a future bracket for mounting; perhaps the o-rings have a correlation to that -- not sure. Also, there was talk about auto use but it was decided not to move forward with it. I wonder if some of the instruction sheets are left over from that period.
I'll be doing some testing on 160 in a few weeks once my WSPR transmitter arrives.
Keep you up dated on your opinion after you've used it a bit. I like to keep up with others experiences with new to market antennas.

Good aftenoon. After viewing your RPG recording, i ordered and rcvd my RPG antenna. Unlike your recording, i was not able to get any band in tune other than 20 M with the coil and manpack collapsible antenna. I wrote to Gabil, they responder quickly requesting they i send them a video of my set up to assist in troubleshooting. Can you provide any detail or tricks other than your video that may give me a hint on how to try this antenna to work. Fyi, I used 4 - 17.5 radials on my ground spike. When I tuned 20M, the laminated tape on antenna was close to #3 or #4 but no where neat the 14M mark.

The markings on the coil I presume are metric measurements of length; they have no correlation to band frequencies.
I use three 16 1/2 radials and that works great for me. I set up with an analyzer attached to my coax, make small adjustments, then step 5 to 6 feet away so my body does not interact with the antenna.
      Are you using an analyzer?

  • @KD9ZHF

You should retest it with the proper radials to give it a fair shot.

Pretty sure that's gonna get done on a follow up video.

A greater diameter coil should also be more efficient, if a person is doing POTA or similar at or close to their car this might be preferable to the thin one.

I didn't think about that, thanks for sharing.

the coil diameter is way too small to be efficient below 40 meters

    • @HOAHamRadio
      @HOAHamRadio  2 месяца назад

Inefficient I'm sure, I wonder if it will still make contacts. Gonna do some more testing.
