    Here’s an update. I had a look at the powder in the bottle, some of it is kind of clumpy and it’s sticking to anything plastic pretty hard. Looks like it’s drawn moisture somehow, and seems to have static built up. I’m positive I caused this somehow. How? Not a clue. I’m not that worried about it. We have plenty of other powders that will do the same job.

    Humidity is a powder killer. I disassembled a pile of old 30-06 cartridges(Ball ammo). Saved Bullets for plinking and dry powder. The powder(Preserved in a glass jar) reacted and rusted everything the gases touched. Better just get rid of it.Always nice to lite a pile outdoors.

    My guess is you aren't getting a tight gas seal with those hard cards. Second guess is the burn rate of the powder is too slow for that light slug (I have no experience with THAT powder though)

    • @theshotgunscientists

      Wst is a fast powder similar to red dot. The AA hulls had a plastic wad over the powder then nitro cards under the slug. I looked at the powder in the bottle and it’s definitely drawn moisture somehow. I don’t know I I could have caused that though.

I like the ideas already posted of using silica packets. Maybe try several small amounts , like 4 or 5 batches? Just to see if it can be reclaimed/saved. And check em with burn test, one a week Maybe.. if the burn rates get better Maybe try loading up some more? If not toss it. I Really enjoyed this one Tyler.. keep on keeping em real man..

    @Willyk51 he got it right humidity is a killer of powder! I save all those little moisture packets you get with certain shipments. Whenever I open a can of powder I leave one inside it, I keep the humidity as low as I possibly can in my reloading room, and my gun safe. I also keep 90% of my rounds and steal military cans with five or six of those packets and I’ve shot rounds loaded eight years ago with no issues. I had a clumpy batch like yours one time put a couple of those packets in it, used it for just, cheap target ammo for a 223, after I let the packets dry it out a bit the performance came up! But it did leave a mess in the firing chamber and barrel not unburnt Powder, but a ton of carbon

    • @jimiandersonblackknight7554
      @jimiandersonblackknight7554 Месяц назад

      it definitely helps for storage and definitely keeps your powder fresher longer. If you keep one of those little packets inside the can. I only have to do that with a few rounds that I load usually, I go through anywhere from 4 to 8 pounds when I sit down to load. I always try to load a minimum of 1000 at a time, I figure if I’m going to spend a day at the press I might as well get as much done as possible. That’s why I use the ammo cans and rotate them according to date. You also might want to look into what my buddy is doing here in Ohio, he has a patent on 1 inch - 1.5 inch shot and slugs! It requires a piece from a 3-D printer to be fed by pump Action or semi automatic, it keeps the shell level.

    Dump it all , it is possible to blow up a shotgun , it partially burns then a pressure spike with more burning with a slug or obstacle in the barrel and a kaboom. I have had powder stored for 25 years that is perfect but we have 12 to 38% humidity normally here.
