Am an Ashanti and sometimes when these paid mourners come around to "perform" I forget it is a funeral and I laugh. They are soo good. Am a proud Ashanti. God bless Asanteman and my Ghana❤🇬🇭
When my great grandmother passed away, her body was kept in the morgue for a year, bcuz the family was planning a grand funeral and also bcuz she was also a Queenmother of the Traditional Area
Hi, I'm an Asante. Until Covid, corpse were kept in the morgue for months or a year based on the funeral planning process. But after COVID-19, they're kept a little shorter (within 5months). Also, every clan has a funeral opening dates where specific dates are announced for funerals for families of the dead to choose which one will fit their planning process. This is done to avoid funerals from clashing with any of the Asanteman durbars such Akwasidae or to prevent funerals from being conducted every weekend.
2. The idea of the professional wailers/cryers may be misunderstood, but, just watching the video and the planning is stressful, so a lot of people are not able to even grieve properly due to financial stress and funeral organisation and all that, so finding someone to cry for you is an option then you cry later when everything is calm after the funeral and reality hits you. Mind you, the utterances they make when they cry sometimes draw your memories of that loved one and ignite your emotions.
So funeral in Ghana is in stages. Usually burial is within 2-6 months.
First one week celebration.
Then forty days ( Ashanti culture)
Then funeral ( which is typically 3 days, burial/ wake day usually Thursday or Friday)Then Saturday is funeral day with Sunday as thanksgiving day.
And 1st anniversary celebration.
Wooooahhh! So there is even more gatherings??? Now the investor statement makes more sense. Beautiful culture and a grand way to honor loved ones.
The body can sometimes stay in the mogue for about 2 to 3 months. The essence is sometimes to allow majority of persons who know the deseased to hear of the demise, and come show their final respect.
Others are also to mobilise resources to give a befitting burial, especially the elderly who have made great impact in the lives of people
My mom, a fanti, passed on in December and was buried in February
Your wife to me looks like a Ghanaian from the Koforidua side of the Fante tribe from the Eastern Region. Her face eyes really connect to those types of people.
Fantes are from the Central region.
The Akuapims are in the Eastern Region not Fantes
Those living in Koforidua are Asante.
She said 6months is a long time. Some chiefs 3years even😂😂😂
Geesh! We didn’t know that was possible.
😂🤣😂😂🤣
Hope to see you in Ghana anytime
Hope to see you in Ghana anytime
It depends on the family preparation , sometimes it takes three weeks or two months for the funeral
This is the culture of Ashanti people in Ghana
Ghana for you. I love my country😂😂😂❤❤🎉🎉
Funerals happen on whatever date the family agree. That means it can be 1 month, it can be as long as a year. I've been to a funeral which was as much as 7 years later because the man was a chief and there were other issues to deal with. The body was in the morgue that whole time and I walked past the body at that 7 year funeral.
But also just to be clear, we have a 7 day ceremony, and then 40 days event as well.
Yeaaap, billboards, posters, and some in the newspaper and radio stations. I actually once found out about a family friends death by these posters on the streets 😢. They mostly post or mount the posters at places where the person was offen seen, or is known 🙏
🙏🏾💔
So in Ghana you don’t have to personally know the person who died or any of their family members.
Once they lived in your community you’re automatically invited.
Mostly. 😂😂😂 and some may not even be related or live in the neighborhood, but just go there just to eat 😅😅, there's always free food at a funeral 😂😂
@@akosuaahwenepa5459hock. They don't even know the person buh they cry louder than the deceased family 😂
@@akosuaahwenepa5459 akosua no no😅😅
Ghana 🇬🇭 ❤️
The body will be kept in the morgue for sometimes more than a month.my grandpa was kept in the morgue for 4months before burial and the funeral
Hi my favourite couple, giving you a small clarification, with the who said the 41, it was for reference and how many nieces and nephews she's has been able to take care of with this work because 6 of her siblings have died, and this work is what is what is helping her take care of her mother and the 41 nieces and nephews.
Ah! Thanks for the clarification, family.
We believe the soul of the departed can still be lingering so at least a grand celebration could give them closure to move on. A last brouhaha of sorts 😊.
I feel like you get Ghana 🇬🇭 now no flaw in your interpretation. See you guys soon✊🏾.
We try our best to understand, fam! Much love!
The only thing is to make money out from the dead and nothing more. We know it takes fourty days for the departed soul to finally leave the earth to the ancestral according to some traditions. Why would you want to benefit from the dead but mostly despised them when they are alive?
It's all about last respect 🙏 for the love one.
We live a real life here in Ghana, the hardships, and all those kind of stuff but we are still happy here you have a feel of life real life the robotic kinda of life isn't our thing
My mum was in the morgue for 5 months for us to prepare financially to give her a befitting burial so depends on pocket
Totally get the stops on the route to the final burial place. Usually places they lived, knew a lot of people etc. When my grandma died they did the same all the way to her hometown where she was buried
How long till funeral and burial after death usually depends on the importance or family of the person.
Some even pay for it to be mounted for years in remembrance of their loved ones. This is mounted before and after the burial.
Traditionally the body should be kept for 40days
But now people keep the corpse for a year or two
People attend funerals who they know directly or indirectly through people who know the deceased or some just go to spectate or enjoy food from the after-party
They keep them at the mock it depends on the family , if it’s a rich family yes up to six months if it’s king 👑 or a queen mother it can take two years because it’s a big celebration and you have to prepare for that
That guy is a poet
0:14 L o l she wants to build her own casket
The prices stress me out😂.
@@TheDemouchetsREACT lol
Lol they didn’t even show the food and all
They keep it up for 3months or more. From when they die to their wake-keping,burial and sometimes after 40days
The caskets can be damn funny. A fisherman who dies might just have a fish-shaped casket made for him, it's quite intriguing
And the whole extended family is responsible for the cost of the funeral.
I believe it depends on the kind of family you have
That’s a blessing.
The insurance system in Ghana does not take full responsibility for our funerals. They might collapse if they do. What they give you cannot even buy a casket
Keeping the body for long or short periods depend on the kind of person. For instance if is a kid or a younger person, the body can be kept for 3 days to 2weeks but if is an adult or older person, the body can be kept for for 40days or 2months. And if the person is a king or queen that one is after 3 months or more. And even if u are an adult and u are the first child of ur parents to be dead and ur parents are still alive that one is after a week or two. So it depends on the type of person.
Ghanaians erhn we are low key extra hahahahahaha
Aswear
some bodies can be kept for years. my grandfather was kept for 1 year. it is not the actual refrigerator lol
some of these billboards can be there for so long some end get destroyed by rain etc.
Lol it depends
If it's a chief or king it can take up to a year before the funeral is done and the body is buried
Gh to the whole wiase 🌎 🔥🔥. That's the beauty of the+233s 🇬🇭 culture on the map ❤❤❤
It some times takes over 6 month to even a year bury someone, it’s crazy
Absolutely crazy. Greed and unnecessary family conflict over the decease.
It's depends on individual
Some go as much as 2 years!
The body can stay in the morgue or a funeral for months until you are ready to do the funeral and burial
The dances have different interpretation depending on the occasion
Some keep the body for over a year.
My aunty was in the freezer for 9 months.
The crying is part of the culture. For the Ashanti culture we believe if a lot of people do cry at the funeral then it means the deceased loved people and treated them good. The more people cry and sad at the funeral the more people get to know him or her when he or she was alive and that’s why they go all out to go get people to come cry at the funeral
❤️❤️
@@TheDemouchetsREACT if you are paying non-relatives to just cry, then there is no sincerity in the cries and its just for show, to give an impression. I think we can call those crocodile tears
One this is not every funeral is planned the way you see in this video, some would cost as low as $500 to be done. The video you're reacting is a rich person's funeral
Funerals are arranged based on the family's plans, it could be a month or done with specific time of their choice. Billboard are raised and pulled down just days afterwards. Funeral service is just one and the rest depends on the family whether to extend with games or donations activities or raise an foundation on their beloved person.
You have to remember in America everything is fast fast, fast food paste so people don’t take their time to pay respect dead
Yeah they do have people you can pay to cry for you
But when you commit suicide, you will not have this kind of funeral,no matter how successful you are.
Didn't they keep the late former president Mills a couple of years
some go as far as 1-year or more
Well this paid mourners are only done by Ashantis
Where was all that money when the person was alive and needed it? This is INSANITY....................................
Am an Ashanti and sometimes when these paid mourners come around to "perform" I forget it is a funeral and I laugh. They are soo good. Am a proud Ashanti. God bless Asanteman and my Ghana❤🇬🇭
There's nothing like 'Ashanti'. Learn your history
@@tuebretling7998let her know the truth 😂
@@tuebretling7998 what do you mean by that
One dies and you pay someone to cry for you and you are proud, in this place funerals is just a business and has no spiritual meaning
@@tuebretling7998 I know Ashanti is a corrupted word for Asante. When am speaking Asante Twi, I use Asante but when speaking to my father's people who are Ga - Adanbges I use Ashanti. I know much about my people my dear.
