Chill out guys! Explain this. When a 7 year old child, who has absolutely NO idea what a drum corps is, asks you to give a brief explanation of what is a drum corps. How can they understand anything other than a professional marching band. Carolina Crown has even called themselves the purple pants BAND!!! drum corps is just an exalted, much more interesting, and much more difficult version of marching band, but without woodwinds, trombone, and sousaphones. I'm a diehard DCI/DCA fan as well as most of you, who even has plans to march drum corps, but I don't get mad when people call it marching band. SHUT UP AND HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I will disagree 'til my dying day. I marched drum corps from 1990 to 1995. I was the lead trumpet (soprano), solist and horn captain for my hornline. I was one of the best of the best. Participated in the camps of Star of Indiana in 1993. Knew Matt Harloff, who is now the horn tech for Crown. I participated in band while in high school and drum corps snd there is a distinct difference. That disgusting troll named Nick Cannon started some of this doo doo rhetoric about band which is a lie. My horn instructor came out of a band far greater than mine and we went to the same High School nearly 30 years apart!!! But he, like I, participated in something for greater: drum corps. Drum corps is military style and military grade. It is quite different and was more regimented. Things have evolved and the activity is more complicated now, BUT IT IS NOT BAND!! And you can't pay me enough money to have me to call it otherwise!!!! Drum Corps is one of the greatest marching activities you can participate in as a youth. Band? Not. There IS a major difference. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 🎺

I think Neil Patrick Harris should be the announcer for DCI should Brandt Crocker have to leave the scene one day. His introduction was just as amazing as the corps!
Well Looking at it this way, "Can you compare a person that just sings every now or then that may join a group but never really takes the time to go out of their way for singing, to a professional/college voice major singer whose entire focus in life is music and voice" there's a different level of passion and respect. Drum Corps is a place for someone that wants more, someone who is willing to spend thousands of dollars, spend every last drop of energy and to keep going when there is no more, to give up other opportunities (seeing family, friends, school, relaxing for the summer) and to build ourselves into everything that we need to be for that show. The frustration is understandable. I love Marching Band. It's fun and energetic, there is a respect behind it. There is a level of demand, but nothing like we have to live up to in drum corps, most MB I've been with the people are there to socialize or won't make great sacrifices for it. Your average Marching Band season is nothing like your average Drum Corps season. Some people get butthurt when you say MB instead of DC cause its like throwing out the respect of all the hard demands we make. However we have to remember reality. Jordan Mankus and Brandon Kassab have points. Most people don't even know what Drum Corps is. The activity did evolve from marching band. I'm sure most average people could think tuba is the same thing as flute. lol We should be glad that a great group has gotten National Attention, we need more of it if we want this activity to survive. Crown did a great job representing and we shouldn't let a comment (we would only have an opinion on) take away from that.
Alright people. You are getting mad over something that cannot be fixed and it wasn't that bad because the amazing Neil Patrick Harris corrected it 3 seconds afterwards. At the end of the day, Crown rocked this parade. They're not even mad. That got the fuck on with their lives and are now preparing for their 2014 season. CTFO!
Crown has gotten some great PR for the activity by performing in the Disney Parade. Please don't ruin the positive exposure for others by being hung up on the term "marching band". That's an ugly way to portray our community. We as DCI fans are SO much better than that.
Does anyone know the reason for crown doing this? And why don't corps do this more often. I would guess since they won that year that they were doing some after season thing for anyone who wanted to but I would like to be sure

For some reason I could not reply to your post BandNerdcp: I've been a "DRUM CORP" Fan for about 30 years now. From the age of 14 I knew the difference from a drum corp and a marching band. Like anything in life now, if you say something that is wrong or stupid your going to take some heat for it. All drum corps are marching bands, not all marching bands are drum corps. While yes, drum corps is 2000x harder than marching band (trust me I know from experience) at its core it is still just marching band. So stop fangirling and get over it

When the bugles were ditched and electronics/singing/speakers added, over-props cluttered the fields, DCI became a marching band organization. Whether it's good or bad is relative, but it's a fact. The corps sounded great, but that fake crowd noise is unnecessary, distracting from the music, and sounds totally stupid.
