Thanks to you guys for being a part of the journey so far! If you know a secret tip to staying awake without caffeine, now is the time to share your wisdom :)
If you want to find out where we've been and where we're heading (literally), you can poke around and explore our itinerary here: tokyocreative.com
Abroad in Japan love you and your content
Hey
Apples, I'm not a big coffee drinker use to wake up a 4 am for work, try apples!
You could make it one of your challenges, look for fresh apples!
Thank you for sharing this journey with us ^_^
Its amazing how you are keeping the production quality of these vids so high even though you are uploading every day.
The secret is to edit until 5am every day then start cycling at 10am ;)
So you dont sleep?
Having a somewhat competent crew must also help a bit I assume.
Sorry to burst the bubble however I wish it was true :'), my guess is the cycle is 1 day behind so the video of the previous day is edited on the day the next one is recorded. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Sounds very relaxing xd
During the tea party, they first eat with the foreigner, then they eat the foreigner.
Walz death by Snu Snu!
They put the lotion on the skin.....
Walz sound
Those biscuits are made from soylent green....
Hotel California style 😂😂
An innocent looking woman waiting for solo travellers in the middle of nowhere and inviting them to a tea party... There's a horror story waiting to be written there! But I love seeing such random acts of kindness from (Japanese) people in your videos, I hope you get to capture more such moments!
so Alice in wonderland tea party backwards
I misread this lol. I thought you wrote, 'I hope you get captured
hahaha that's hilarious! And to think it could actually have happened to him, on a patreon stream he admitted she was far creepier than he showed in the video!!
Spoiler: "Tea parties" = orgies
@@KOWAL19898 I tought the same, he was probably getting invited to a middle aged ladies orgy or something, actually damn hilarious.
Japan: If someone gives you food out of nowhere, that is a sign of kindness
Every other country: The food is poisoned
Colb MLG *DANGER STRANGER
Nah, Malaysian are pretty nice too. I received a lot of food from strangers here and it's fine.
A lot of countries used to be like this before you know population got more dense and crime would go up.
ngl, when the lady invited him to a tea party, showed him pictures of other foreigners that she somehow wrangled to attend her tea party and offered him soy cream biscuits, I had flashbacks to reading "The Landlady" by Roald Dahl and dread started to creep up on me. Glad he's fine but if i were him i would've drop the food into a fire.
edit: a comment down below says she's probably part of a Korean cult using foreigner's pictures to promote their cult as a "international religion" to draw in other Koreans. Which makes sense.
@@potatoeskimos You get free food? Dang I must be going to the wrong places then.
What did we do to deserve daily Abroad in Japan videos? God bless you Chris. These are so darn entertaining.

It is like a magic.

Easily the best series on RUclips right now.
100% I cant think of one better than this currently.

Hiding in my room? That is like shitty cheap B-anime about a complete loser who married way too early while being cucked by an Aussie.

I’ve been in my house for like 2 months because of corona and I’m just re watching all of your videos! Love your channel Chris! 🙌🏻
Ya same, can't wait for it to be over so I can take that trip to Japan, I have always wanted to take.
me too
Still going on, sort of. Hope you guys are well.
Same here. I watch them every day and it gives me life 😂
@@inevitable-armageddon Do it!
Be careful of random strangers inviting you to a "party", this is actually pretty well-known way of getting people into sects in Japan. I am not even kidding and it is more frequent than you can imagine.
I agree, but have to know the elderly in countryside is likely to be very friendly and helpful to visitors, but he/she rarely offer invitation.
Sects?...
@@Chino-Kafu Religious sects a.k.a cults

Gaikokujin, Shirley? He's not that offensive 😉
Same, i was confused as hell, he got a person to say it, but immideatally it said ''Failed''
@@andythompson2009 I feel like the term "gaijin" in Japanese is kinda similar to the word "Black" in English. In most cases, those words are genuinely used as shortened phrases to describe people, but because of few idiotic racists using them as discriminative terms some people take it as an offense.
The guy on the video said gaijin to Chris indeed but he of course had no intension of discriminating a friendly foreigner! It just wasn't the best choice of the word.
Local man hadn’t yet had enough vending machine sake, he looked slightly intimidated by a “hentai???” foreigner 😬 Tip: if you want to talk to strangers, don’t tell them you’re strange- they’ll believe you, at least in Japan. 😀

Woah how are you here
Awesome series so far! You are spoiling us with these daily videos. Much appreciated. But, as much as I enjoy it, get some rest! Riding hard during the day and editing at night will burn you out fast.
what is those guys job if he is editing and filming?
“This guy looks kinda friendly.” Snares at camera like an English vampire from a cheap horror flick. Btw chris you won that challenge simply for getting what seems like a very introverted japanese person to say it while drunk. Epic Genius
this series is the best thing you've done in this channel
You can still sign up for a sponsorship with GoPro. They have a site dedicated to it. You're doing fantastic work. Go out and get what you're worth. You deserve it.

The secret to stay awake at the late hours is anxiety. Got it from a friend.
you can say that again. anxiety from a friend will keep you up all night.
i also got it from a fiend, nice
They had difficulties saying "Journey across Japan", this only confirms you should have called this "Let's bycicle"
Dead Taco you can’t even spell it, though 😂😂😂🤦♀️ ... “bycicle” ... autocorrect won’t even let me type that!! How’d you manage to swing that?!
I'm happy to see you are reading the comments buts don't think to hard on the people judging you...this is your challenge. It's personal and while you are graciously sharing it with us the decisions you make are your own.
I look forward to seeing more of this adventure and wish you safe travels!
*finally we get to hear chris speak Japanese. Awesome challenge* damn sad it was short
I hope they select the challenge I submitted. Chris would be speaking a lot of Japanese!
*ORANGE HELMET WILL HELP YOUR NECK AND SHOULDERS BY CONTROLLING AIR FLOW OVER YOUR HEAD BETTER, AND THE VISOR WILL PROTECT YOUR FACE AND EYEBALLS FROM THE SUN, BETTER THAN JUST SUNSCREEN AND GLASSES* Comfort vs. vanity, your choice. Much Love Chris! Just trying to help.
I think orange helmet is better looking and safer.. Chris has bad taste
Yeah, he should've trusted Risottoro's judgement.
WHY ARE YOU YELLING?!
Re-watching this series in autumn 2021, still love it ☺
Lmfao "the staff wasn't too happy when I was harassing the customers" 😂😂😂
Imagine having vending machines like that in England. They wound't last a week.
homogenous doesnt mean safe
Bashir It can mean "safer" since you want throw your sociopolitical bullshit at us.
Uh yes it does Bashir. As long as you aren't in Africa or the middle east that is.
so basically you agree with me
Nobody said anything about homogeny, the sheer fact is England is far less safe than Japan.
This is a fantastic series so far. I enjoy hearing you speak more Japanese as it's something we don't often get to see.
These videos should be numbered so people can follow them better later. Gl!
Don't worry Chris, most of us who have feelings can feel the physical pain from awkwardness of that situation, talking to 3 strangers is already hard, but having them say "Journey across Japan" is a whole new universe.
Also who needs staff that edits for you, when you can drink 2 coffe red bulls and sleep for like 2 hours so you can ride a bike for another few dozens of kilometers.
What a kind lady!
StarChomp The plot twist I was thinking about is much darker. She actually invites foreigners to her house and serves human flesh to you, then she kills you and you’re the flesh served to the next unlucky foreigner
Until you wake up next day withone less kidney.
like the landlady but with xenophobia
Sour Puss Random tea parties for random foreigners on the street sure seems very fishy. Either she loves foreigners or our theories might be right

/okay, maybe a few more than two
//I stopped in Niigata back in May just to hit the Sake vending machines

Best idea!
I'll add to this: drink sake 'after' you finish work, as a reward. Carrot on the stick, guys.
I like that idea. It keeps the motivation going.
Hey Chris you've inspired me once again, after I've moved to Japan after I complete my schooling and truly start my channel here on RUclips, I will attempt this same challenge of crossing Japan on a bike. I hope to be as successful in my future endeavors as you have been and I'd just like you to know you have been and continue to be a massive inspiration to me. Thank you!
Chris, I'm binge-watching your amazingly high-quality content right now. Superb. Keep smashing it!!!
Been an absolute huge fan of Chris and the Abroad in Japan channel for ages now. Your level of commitment is incredible, thank you for keeping us entertained.
Failed challenge = pumpkin helmet the next trip
Should get you motivated to complete the challenges!
just to remmind people ... Chris broad edited this drunk XD
I like how the scary ones are always " oh God, I have to talk to people?!" Like, what a mood.
I’m just saying that lady inviting you to tea is the start of every anime where the adventurer goes missing and dies, you made a wise decision Chris.
nothing will get you to wear that helmet?
well i have an idea...
if you fail 3 or 4 challenges you have to wear that helmet as a punishment!
so you will be motivated enough to try your best to get these challenges working :)
The Pumpkin Helmet of Punishment and Shame!
You are doing awesome Chris! I'm always looking forward to your daily updates in the evening!
These two months are going to be tough but keep at it!
You're becoming my favorite RUclipsr Chris. Much love and stay at it! I need to visit Japan, looks amazing!
What is your team doing while you're up all night editing? Since they're sitting in the car all day, I should think they would be editing yesterday's footage for you.
If you want something done right you do it yourself. Plus it was a major part of the challenge for him
Yeah, something tells me Chris is a control freak and has to edit his videos himself because only he can do them exactly the way he wants. Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that. Perhaps some day he'll learn to delegate though.
They're probably cleaning the footage and rendering after Chris does an initial pass on what footage has been cleaned/taken.
@@azdgariarada I feel like the format and feel of the video would change as it wouldnt have chirs' influence if hes asleep. and i feel like he wouldnt be abke to sleep as someone else is working with his footage. Plus he can pump the video out alot faster has he knows his general format and can more quickly build from his past video editing experience than his team.
Sorry about the trash spelling. Ape thumbs and android do not mix.
Yo Chris. I think you need to get another person with you that can edit the videos for you so you can rest instead of being dependent on coffee. You can save time too since that person will most likely be with your team and can work on a video while you are cycling. We wouldn't mind a one day delay for your videos as long as you keep healthy. o/
Your health is the most important thing. I would also suggest taking more days off between the legs of the journey, especially if you feel like you really need them. We wouldn't be upset if you took 3-4 (or more if you really need it) days between legs.
Jeez calm down. Then a two day delay maybe. Hahha
Thanks for giving such a good reason to visit our of Tokyo. One of the best serie on RUclips so far !
Man, that intro music is so good. Love it! Production quality = through the roof 🤩
I love the videos but I'm a bit concerned about you cycling all day and then staying up throughout the night editing, stay healthy Chris!
I agree, your own health goes first Chris not the videos!
He's collaborating with Tokyo Creative, so they're probably picking up lots of the editing just using his assets.
50km a day. Cycling at normal pace is around 17km/h so it's just 3 hours max.
Yeah, he seems to be going quite slowly (showing up at his destination around 5), but I suspect that after 2 weeks or so, he'll find the cycling a breeze. It really doesn't take long to build up your strength -- especially when you are young.
Might be because Im Dutch (we use bikes for everything) but, when I younger my school used to be a 15km bikeride. So that's 30km a day, just to get to school and back home

A few years back we went from Brussels to Northern Spain by bike, 1700 km, around 100 km a day. The best, most relaxing holiday ever. I’ve been watching your videos the past few days. We are planning to go to Japan within the next couple of years (avoiding an Olympic year, so probably 2022). I am thinking of fitting in a biking holiday, for example between Kobe and Hiroshima (about a week). I have already starting looking up bike rental shops. I never would have thought of it without having watched your channel but am now getting pretty excited about it. What an inspiration you are!
Great video once again! The lady giving you the biscuit was super sweet, what a fun extra element to your journey. Having seen the sake vending machines quite a few times now I definitely have to give them a go one day.
Sleep whilst riding your bike, you'll be refreshed once you arrive to a new destination.

MrBloodstainz At least in Japan people would say thank you.
Why did i think the same thing?
That old woman stopping a random foreigner, in the middle of the countryside, and inviting him to a tea party... while sort of cute, is a bit creepy if I do say so myself.
Nah in Japan it's just a really kind gesture. Ofc most other places it's pretty creepy

Chris, I love you! Your videos are just the best! Congratulations on making it this far in your journey. I am excited to watch the rest of your journey and hope that everything continues smoothly for you. The countryside you've shown in your videos is absolutely gorgeous, the more I watch your videos the more I can't wait to come to Japan. And getting to watch your channel daily has been an unexpected and very welcomed part to my month!! Keep up the great work.😁 If I could put a challenge in your journey my challenge would be to speak more Japanese during your videos, for a just a minute or two, your Japanese sounds great and it almost seems like you're self-conscious when speaking, it could just be me though after all I'm watching from a video but I think if you are self-conscious that you should know you're Japanese sounds great and you hold your own well from what I've seen and it's fun to see you speaking the native language!
Good luck!
Cycling Japan, most people watching this are living in jobs they hate in countries they don’t appreciate.
You are lucky to be living this life.
No matter how bad it gets, people in America, Britain, Ireland, Australia... are very... very... very jealous.
Cycling in Japan. What an adventure.
after having just come back to california from a 2 week trip to japan....i can attest to everything jim said.

I live in India and I couldn't be more jealous
I'd do anything for an opportunity like that. Just hope I can get a job in japan soon!
He isn't lucky he worked hard for it
This is an awesome series idea, me and my boyfriend are enjoying it so much. We are long-time cyclists, both road-biking and touring and just wanted to give you a couple tips that might help (sorry for being absolute jobsworths but were British so you know how it is):
- make sure you are consuming lots of carb-based food and snacks during the day (every hour!) as this is what you really need for long-distance cycling, consume protein towards the end of your day for recovery.
- don't worry about puncturing your tire, the most important part is having the tire pumped up well. It would make your journey easier if you got slick tires, you would be surprised how much difference this can make.
- probably the most important thing, make sure your helmet isn't loose, you should be able to turn your head upside down with it on (with no strap) and it shouldn't fall off your head.
These are just a couple things we noticed that would greatly improve your safety and comfort but we love your attitude and your videos, they are amazing and we can't wait to see more! We are planning on cycling from Fukuoka - Sapporo from April to June 2019 so thank you for inspiring us! - Lucy and Dan (UK)
Good luck on your cycle
So, how is it? The Fukuoka Sapporo trip?
Lucy Rivers, " make sure you are consuming lots of carb-based food and snacks during the day (every hour!) as this is what you really need for long-distance cycling", if your in a competition yes absolutely, if you're trying to lose weight, not so much.
@Van That's fitness 101. A simple explanation is exercise is good for the heart and dieting is good for the waste line.
I personally found that intense exercise increased my appetite. It was a constant battle but exercise had many side benefits. I agree with you eat healthier and exercise that's more important than dieting alone.
good luck on the rest of your trip. I used to race bikes and I love Japan so also love the videos!
8:40 Just admit it. You got drunk and forgot the goal was THREE people. lol
I like the thought of Chris riding until he is exhausted, drinking too much vending machine sake, editing the daily video in a state of delirium and then reading through these comments before he passes out to nightmares of having to do this over and over and over...
Yes and the pumpkin helmet or even the cherry hat would have been a nice topping.

Day Three of our Hero's harrowing journey across a smallish portion of the Land of the Rising Sun! Today you've not only accepted a challenge that most mortals would shirk away from, but you managed to successfully complete it in spirit. While enjoying a mug of Emerald Mountain and snacking on some custard cream biscuits, I'm reminded of the sheer will required to complete a trip of this enormity. You are an inspiration for all of us! I am sure you will take advantage of the revelries that onsen-riddled Niigata has to offer, you mountebank! And all well deserved. This Chris' version of Vlogtober. I just realized that.
And vlogvember?
I give you a lot of credit for taking on this challenge! I can't wait to see your full journey.
i bloody love your channel chris 🥺🥰
You want to keep drinking that coffee and also tea in the evening to stay awake. What you need to stay away form is alcohol. Coffee contains loads of antioxidants that will help your muscles repair themselves and will keep you from being so sore after riding all day so eat and drink as many foods as you can that contain antioxidants. Drinking alcohol will only make you feel that much more fatigued and sore the next day. Yeah, I know you're British and asking you to stop drinking alcohol is like asking most people to stop drinking water, but trust me, you don't want anything that will make you dehydrated right now.
Also that tea party sounds like the start of a horror film 👍
It reminds of an episode of.... well, an episode of SOME crime-type show. NCIS or Criminal Minds, or something like that. Kidnapped women, paralyzed them, then dressed them up for a tea party. I'm starting to think it was NCIS (the original)
that woman was collecting gaijins in the middle of nowhere 😱
You made me remember that fill with Paris Hilton in.. when they get turned into wax models 😂 than custard creams are laced with a paralyzing substance!
Bless that delightful kind man who helped you out with the challenge! It was no fair having such an anxiety-inducing and socially unusual challenge! No shame in only finding one to help!!! Excellent job !

Your video quality is still amazing. Loving the videos
I remembered those old beer vending machines in the streets, when I was walking around drunk. Good old Japan days
