While I understand the worry of Nintendo pricing in the future, especially given that Nintendo has kinda become infamous for anti consumer strategies, I feel like it’s worth pointing out that the industry’s shift to 70$ games could benefit nintendo quite a bit if they keep the price of most games at 60. I do expect we’re gonna get some 70$ games given that ToTK launched at 70, but keeping the standard price at 60 might be a smart move on nintendo’s end to compete with other companies
While I understand your criticisms, the HD version will include the best editions that the 3DS one had. Modern mode, and the World 9 cloud levels. While I know they've been done before, this HD version includes the best of the Wii and 3DS versions. The Modern Mode, extra levels, better controls that doesn't involve shaking your remote. and the best graphics. The HD version will be the ultimate definitive edition of this game. The Tropical Freeze port did less really. Funky Mode didn't do much except cater to younger players. And I certainly didn't notice any improved graphics on the Switch for Tropical Freeze, except faster loading times.
Everyone seems to have forgotten Switch 2 was meant to release in 2024 but was postponed to 2025, as leaked back in Feb. That’s the reason we had a pretty lacklustre year with some subpar new games (princess peach, echoes of wisdom…) and overpriced remakes (30fps ttyd, LM2, DKCR HD…). Nintendo just didn’t have that much content and used an opportunistic pricing strategy to make up for it.
As a kid I never understood the concept of a game not being sold anymore. Games don't expire like food do. So why do they stop appearing on stores ? When a game receives a remake, it is as if the game came back. And so to me it should still being sold the same price
But remaking a game is making if from the ground up with minimal use of things directly from the original besides maybe soundtrack (its usually either the same or remixed with possibley new songs) . So it's essentially making a new game.
You don’t need it, remember it’s not going anywhere it’s not going to be sold out, I’m sure it will get discounted down the line, as long as you’ve beat the original there’s no need to go back.
Look, I won’t act like this port being 60 is a good thing- I got it with a Voucher I had left over from last year to save a little extra money on the game. And yeah, game prices for ports like this are lame, straight up. A port like this should be cheaper because that shows some amount of respect for the people who double dip and acts as a good incentive for new players to try out an older game that could get more people excited for a NEW game in a franchise, which can translate to more sales. I really don’t think Nintendo is going to raise prices across the board, however. For some of their bigger budget/scope games like Tears of the Kingdom and possibly Metroid Prime 4? Yeah, very possible, I do expect some 70 dollar games from them. But I really have my doubts they’ll be willing to charge 70 for any number of their smaller scale double A projects. Like, I cannot imagine any reality where they can justify 70 dollars for a game like Peach Showtime or a Yoshi’s Woolly World port. If it happens, it happens, and that would suck and I think would hurt Nintendo more than help them, because then stuff like DKC Rerereturns will absolutely see less sales. As for me personally, though- I’m excited for this game and I don’t give a damn. Returns was the second DK game I ever owned after 64, and the first I cared about enough to finish. And it’s doing exactly what I wanted out of a port to Switch- adding in the 3DS levels to a home console version, allowing for button controls so you don’t need to do the waggle, it looks decently nice (obviously could be better, it’s no Tropical Freeze), and it completes having access to all the DKC games on Switch. I wanted this game for a lot of reasons, and I can’t deny there are some big problems around the port, but the game itself is a great one and I’m looking forward to revisiting it.
These are some really valid points! We'll just have to wait and cross our fingers that they don't do a full 70 across the board. Persoonally I think Tears of the kingdom was them testing the waters to see if they could imo

With the bout of inflation these past 4 years there’s 0 chance they’ll stick with 60$ games. I just hope they won’t go above 70$

I prefer the DK Country original camera

Only reason I’m getting the game is because I’m able to get it for free

Only broke people complain about $60 instead of $40 or $50. Like honestly lol 😂
