@@lar7905 Wasn't Boston Garden sold out starting in Bird's rookie year? In Green Bay, for instance, Packer games are ALWAYS broadcast because Lambeau Field is ALWAYS sold out.
@@cindyknudson2715 Before Larry to Boston, the Celtics were selling lifetime season tickets for $1000, just to try to get people to come to games - they were that bad for a few years.
That was the beauty of Indiana basketball back then - the small schools played against the big schools, and worked like hell to prove themselves. Today, they have split the schools up into divisions, and it just is now nowhere as competitive as it was back then.
LRry Bird was just made to be a great basketball player. Amazing to watch Larry and he truly entertained (in the true and best sense of that word) billions of basketball fans. I sense that he is a good and decent man. I pray the best for Larry and his family.
I remember reading about Coach Bob King telling a story. He used to coach New Mexico and he brought a couple of his former players in to work Larry out. He asked them what they thought afterward. They said Larry was the greatest they ever seen.
There was a Larry Bird before Larry Bird in northern Indiana a few years earlier. Steve Platt of Huntington, Indiana. He loved farming and showed up for an industrial ball game played in work boots and bib overalls and scored 55 points effortlessly. Both men represented Indiana basketball to perfection..
Larry bird was a gift from the Indiana Gods of basketball - he transcended race. And everything happened for a reason. All happened in Indiana and Boston the other place where the Gods of basketball oversee time
Larry Legend! Still the most talked about, revered, RUclips reacted to basketball player ever! If a RUclipsr wants to get a fist full of clicks, there is no more sure fire method than to post a "Larry Bird" reaction video!
Imagine if that pearl collected trash his whole life? (he maybe wouldn't have minded.) Turns into an easy Top 10 player and easily the best white basketball player ever. What a story. This gentleman is responsible for the rest of us being able to watch this guy play basketball. Which is a highlight of my sports life

The garbage truck in the video doesn’t reflect how Larry Bird would have picked up garbage. He’d probably be offended if people thought that. He would have ridden on the back of a truck or trailer early in the morning, stopping at every house, hopping off, and throwing in each bag himself. In my neighborhood now, a lady drives a big truck anytime between 6 AM and 5 PM, knocking over every garbage bin in the neighborhood and usually leaving them on the ground in front of the driveways. On a good day, she’ll leave them standing, but with the lid open so rain fills the bin.
Greatest comment ever. Rodman hates Larry because LB destroyed his ass, and his ass is racist. It's pretty simple. One last thing: When LB fought Laimbeer, Rodman came over to grab Larry. Larry flung him off like a sheet, and Rodman at that point realized he would never physically be able to compete. So he flapped his mouth.

Great interview. Thank you.

Thanks to coach for giving Larry the chance to overcome his fears and grow up. Maybe a few of us out here can relate.
THANK YOU for this. 😁
I've read about how Bird came to be at ISU, but I've never heard an interview with Bill Hodges on the subject before.
No problem! Yes same here! So glad it’s out there!

The MJ fans can make all the claims they want, but Bird was the all-around better player.
They need to make a biopic about Larry’s early days.
