Kevin, that has to be one of the reasons God put it upon your heart to buy those two properties. He knew you would preserve those things and take care of them. If that well still has water in it after all these years it must be tied to a spring. I would dearly love to hear you do like a documentary on the history of that land someday. This is an awesome find and I'm so glad it was you that found it.

Looks like a hand dug well! You might want to put a pump in it and pump it out, let it refill, and then take the water sample or take a sample, then pump it out and take another sample.

Hi, Kevin! I am an 80 year old female, who dowsed 2 wells, without sticks. I simply walked around our property, and kept coming back to one specific area. Told my partner to mark this spot. When the well driller came the next day, he hit water at 6 inches. By the time he was done, he estimated we had 80 gallons/minute (yes, per minute,). The water came out so fast, he could only estimate the amount of flow, based on his years of experience. When we needed a well drilled on the farm, I walked around again, and settled on a spot. Didn’t have the spectacular results of the first well, but we had enough good, clear water to water a market garden, and a small 40 tree orchard. Haven’t done any dowsing since then, but it was like I could feel the water underground.

That's a cool gift to have and enjoying the outcome of finding water. As you could feel the water running under your feet, a relative of my mother's put on his shoes and felt something in one of them. He took that shoe off and found a humane hair inside. They must have been some sensitive feet. 😁

Kevin, when I was a girl we had a farm and my oldest brother was a teenager and he and my dad dug our well that we drank from. My dad dug it as deep as he could, and then he put my brother down in the hole and lowered a bucket down on a rope to him and he would fill the bucket full of dirt and my dad would haul it out. When the hole started filling with water, my brother put his foot in the bucket and my dad pulled him out. So yes, two men could dig a well. Back in the old days men were very tough and so were women for that matter. We have all the modern conveniences now so I don’t believe we’re tough as we used to be. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Great video. Really enjoying these videos. Thank you for your time. Really interesting to watch everything unfold! Blessings from OKC

The hams and whatever was salted well and hung on the hooks to preserve. We also had a well with rock lining and it had a bucket on a chain to let down to get the water and a hand crank to draw the water bucket back up. It all still stands, the farm was built in 1875. There is a cemetery where the first owners are buried.

I had a old septic tank come up to the surface in my backyard in a previous house I owned. The area had drought conditions for a few years and anything that was in the tank dried up. I was very close to Lake Erie and the soil was sand ,clay and shale beneath the a few feet of topsoil. When sewer and public water was installed in the 60's wells were supposed to be filled and septic tanks and systems were supposed to be removed. Many people slipped inspectors cash to overlook these requirements because it was the responsibility of the property owners. I sold the property and disclosed the tank issue to the buyer. As far as I know he never had the tank removed but filled it with busted up concrete instead.

Kevin, back in the 70's my grandfather had a house with a well, that had to pumped by hand or use the windmill. He had no running water in the house but, he did have a horse troth in the attack and a pipe that ran underground, we would pump and he would bang on the roof to let us know it was full. His water in the sinks and toilet were gravity feed.

    Thank you for this video!
It is very helpful to get more of the history on the area as I am looking at buying property up there. There is a 9 acre lot that is right on the lake that I really like. Unfortunately, there is a flowage easement issue that may prevent me from putting a tiny house on it.

Hi Kevin, You’ll have to ask your nephew or was it your cousin and his crew to come back and put a pipe fence up along the extended property to match the original lakeside property. 😊😊😊. The lake will stop the salt if it was a salt mine which I very much doubt I reckon it was a fresh water well for the house as it would be closer than the spring which could be contaminated by animal excrement etc so they dug the well to get consistent fresh salt and originally it probably had a wall around it with a bucket on a turn handle to lower /lift the bucket of water and then the wall got in disrepair so the owner in 1940 modernised the wellhead with concrete cap with a pump up top of the concrete and they either filled buckets via the pump or they fitted an electric pump over the hole and pumped water into the house and this will be when they fitted the septic tank as well to tie in with the pumped water.😊😊😊
I am looking forward to seeing you doing your metal detecting and a bit of magnet fishing in the well😅😅😅😊😊😊hope it soon as I love finding out the history behind a place and you’ve really been building your lakeside property up in fact if you find a fair bit you could put a display on in the stone hut boat house for us to look at in a video or two. 😊😊😊

Kevin, I'm also part Cherokee Indian. And I have witched some very good Wells when I was younger but I'm almost 62 now and I haven't done that in years but I believe if my memories serve me right that I found a total of five different Wells and four of them were very very very deep. And them four are still going today. And YEAH My grandmother on my momma's side her grandfather was a chief of the Cherokee tribe, in upper state New York.... thank you for sharing this with Us..... God Bless.

Kevin I sure do like the history of your property and this is going to be interesting to find out. I do agree with the magnet as you never know what you will bring up. At least it's worth a try. I love history and this is fun. You might want to rake up the area where the stickers are so not to get in your tires. Awesome video. Love y'all
