  • The Khan Audio VTDI is a faithful re-creation of the classic SVTDI all tube direct box. It utilizes a single 12AU7 in a unique 2-stage design that maximizes both the harmonic richness of the tube as well as powerful low-impedance output drive capability. The VTDI is ideal for use with a number of instruments and sources.

    The best thing this DI does that a lot of others don't is not have the 'thru' jack be parallel to the input, meaning if you use the thru to something with a low impedance input it won't affect the passive pickup tone. Love seeing thru's being buffered nowadays, Retrospec Juicebox does the same.

    I lusted for an SVT-DI when I read a review in Bass Player Magazine about 30 years ago. I never had a chance to try it out. Now I can! Thanks for making this video!
    Edit: just checked out the price..... won't be for a while!

    Oooh, so nice! I’m surprised about how good the thru out sounds like! Does it run through the preamp of the VTDI just like the balanced out does?

    • @TheBassChannel

      Without knowing the exact tech specs, I’m going to assume yes based on the tone. The website describes the THRU as “Tube Processed”

    Ok, so what is the difference between the Edison tube preamp + a DI and this? Because I've been looking for a new DI since the sansamp is kinda just a plug at this point...

    • @TheBassChannel
      @TheBassChannel  Год назад +2

      Edison technically isn’t the same due to its power restrictions. The Edison is 9v powered and it works off of a different power design. Edison uses an EF86 tube vs a 12AU7

    600 bucks for more volume and a slightly different tone? I don´t know... Seems to be good, but not 600-bucks-good, at least for me.
    BTW, when is the full Corvette $$ 5 video coming? Or is it exclusive for members?
    And I would love to see a review of the standard Corvette 5 with singlecoils. It would be interesting to see how it compares to the $$-version.

      I'd be interested by that video too, as far as I know the lower B string on a corvette is not that great, I'm curently in the process of buying a Streamer LX 5 which has a monstrous low B, you should check it out, it's a bit more expensive but it's a better sound for that low frequencies imo

    • @Therealchuckbailey

      You’re simplifying it quite a bit as you’re getting a tube powered preamp that’s portable and convenient for gigs and travel. Lots of tube powered options this price or more and if it’s a tube powered amp… forget it 😂 still you do you my friend! And as far as the Warwick’s go we did a short on it but not a full video… sorry! 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @sparella
      @sparella Год назад +1

      Compared to other valve based DIs on the market, the price is very competitive so it's not "expensive", but yes, 600 is a lot of dollars. I like that the form factor is sleek, so it's small enough to carry as a save-the -gig backup in case of an amp malfunction.
