From the local, and state level, sure. For the medals earned by enlisting, nope, hasn't earned one, not even a purple heart, unlike the 2 critically injured officers, who'd only get them if they were enlisted.

Zack did a fantastic job. The mental switch from looking over the damage to a car involved in a routine fender-bender to dealing with a maniac shooting cops was the hardest part, and not something everyone can do. But once it was _on_ , he did what he was trained to do. Good accuracy, good tactics, good communication. Being a cop is usually boring, but occasionally incredibly tough and mentally difficult. I am hoping he doesn't beat himself up needlessly, and learns to accept and cope with the event. It's hard, but well, as the song says... "it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it"...
Imagine hearing an ak-47 blasting near you, turning around and seeing 3 friends down, and still have the guts to run towards the shooter with just a pistol in your hands. THAT'S PURE BRAVERY

Resident of Fargo here. Thanks for keeping it respectful. We’re not used to things like this happening in our town. It was pretty shocking for everyone. They’ve had a memorial up for the officer sense it happened.

The fear in that officers voice gave me chills yet he still kept running towards the threat WHILE informing on the radio.. what an absolute hero.
What he did was unreal... amazing.
A very good friend of mine was a marine in Vietnam who served near the DMZ at a place called the Eagle Claw. He always told me "When in doubt run towards the sound of gunfire and shoot everything".
It's the factor that separates the wheat from the chaff. And before anyone gets up and in arms about it there's no shame in being the chaff. Most people aren't built to weather that kinda stress.
And I fully admit during my first firefight in Afghanistan I froze up . And it was only the Warrant Officer pistol whipping me to the dirt that snapped me out of it.
The officer who died tried to help too. I read he unholstered his gun and got one shot off before he was killed. Poor kid. His bravery should be recognized as well.
He knew what he had to do, but his body knew what could happen. Glad the doof wasn't wearing body armor.
This is tragic. Nothing but major respect to these officers for saving countless lifes.

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - Fargo Patrol Officer Zach Robinson will receive an award from the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) at the 31st annual TOP COPS Awards in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
He was named Officer of the Year by Fargo PD in April of 2024, and has received a Medal of Honor from the Fraternal Order of Police.

The matter of "defund" refers to allocating limited funds to proven preventatitve measures like public access to mental health & crisis mgt professionals. Or domestic & family counseling. Even many police departments have set up crisis programs with counselors, wven onsite counselors.
I can speak with experience I was volunteering with kids at a community center when the govt cut funds to keep the center open, instead hiring more police and building prisons in the countryside.

No telling how many lives that officer saved. Unbelievably steel nerves. The fluidness of his reload in an unbelievably stressful situation while his colleagues are already on the ground bleeding was impressive as hell. Machine-like in its precision. I was at a Shinedown concert in the Fargo fair that night, and during the show they had a moment of silent for the officers. I am grateful for the officers that kept me and my family safe. Rest in peace Jake Wallin

I've lived here in Fargo for most of my life and this was the most evil thing to have happened in this town. Fargo used to be a quiet place, but the larger it's gotten the higher the crime rate has become, had shots fired across the street from my apartment this spring. Thank you Donut for not only shedding light on what and how it went down (local authorities haven't given much in the form of detail's) and for your respectful way you did this video!

That's a damn good officer. You can hear the adrenaline pumping when he speaks, yet no hesitation at all. He immediately jumps into action and puts himself in danger to end that horrible piece of porcine excrement. We need more officers like this. That was some of the best responses I've seen out of a cop in a long time, between the consistency in making sure their was cover between him and the suspect as well as shot placements he couldn't have performed any better in such a crazy ass situation

How well that cop reacted under such pressure seeing three of his buddies face down on the ground and still rushing the guy shooting a long gun while holding a pistol himself is something incredible to see, respect.

Man, I'm 23 and I feel like my life has barely begun. I used to want to be an officer, and I can't imagine what my family would do if I was taken now. My deepest sympathies go to Officer Wallin and his family, I sincerely hope they're doing as well as they can be right now and have support from each other and their community.

One of the drivers involved in the accident had been on the phone with her dad in Boston when the shooting happened. She dropped her phone at some point early on after saying "I think I've been shot." and her dad heard the rest of the event until a paramedic picked it up. He hopped on the first flight out he could get on and was with her in the hospital as she recovered from her wounds.

Officer Zack Robinson way to put that threat down ! Many trained officers would have froze up or at least kept their distance after watching three teammates dropped right in front of by a shooter with automatic rifles. The way Zack CLOSED the distance after sending some extremely accurate pistol rounds downrange from intelligent cover was some amazing work. Sincerely that was some heroic work right there not to mention how spot on his shooting was while moving fast and taking fire at the same time. All with a PISTOL to boot. Thank you for protecting and serving like a rockstar man. Definitely the real deal.

Thanks for covering this, Donut. I live 45 minutes from Fargo and the community is definitely feeling the loss. His funeral came through my town and it was amazing the amount of support the officer got.

I think it's sad that officers get that kind of support after they have been murdered in the line of duty. They should have that support every single day while they are alive, because every single day their lives are on the line. It's getting more and more dangerous to be a cop these days. My moms cousin is Andrew and that really hurt our family a lot, Andrew can walk now but is in between his apartment and the hospital. He took 3 gunshots to the shoulder, arm, and leg. He is slowly progressing, but is getting better.🙏💪

Man, I never thought something like this would happen in my town. I was even at the street fair that day. That officer potentially saved my life, or at least from experiencing a mass shooting.

I feel for the wounded officers, their families, the family officer who lost their life, and the FTO who took down the shooter. Having the one you’re tasked with training and moulding into the best officer they can be, only to see them killed infront of you must be completely horrifying.

This was such a tragic event, but I am so thankful for the officers that took down this criminal. I was at the fair that day with my family and some friends and if weren't for the officers in this video, who knows what could have happened. My prayers go out to the family of officer wallin, I hope they can find peace.

Incredible officer! You could hear in his voice he badly wanted to help his fellow officers but knew he still had to take care of the shooter. Condolences for the fallen officer and a speedy recovery for the two injured officers. Really hope the primary officer is OK too. Taking a life is a serious thing. Hopefully he knows he had no choice.

I live in Fargo and it was horrible, my parents were at the street fair the day the shooter was going to go there... The amount of recruits for the Fargo PD has gone up after this. We will always stand with those who protect and serve.

So crazy hearing about this and watching the bodycam. I moved out of Fargo a few months back, I heard about this when it happened. So crazy watching this footage. When I lived in Fargo I'd drive around at night, up and down 25th st s all the time, crazy that just from seeing where it is I can place exactly where this happened. So close to home, I lived a few blocks from here. Such a shame about the officers, all of the ones I interacted with in Fargo were so nice.

I’m from Fargo and just completed training in Minnesota, (2 year degree plus skills certificate and post license required to be an officer in Minnesota) processions were held in fargo and had departments from all over the country there. K I was talking about this today. Why is the media not reporting that the murderer is asylum seeker from Syria. He applied in 2012 and arrived in 2019 with likely ties to the islamic state. They must be leaving this out to prevent mass anger across the country. Senseless death that should never have happened. I am for immigration but people they are not 100% confident in, they need to do some basic monitoring to prevent this. If I was his family I'd file a wrongful death law suit not for the money but for the principle.

As a Fargo native this was extremely tragic and came as a shock. I can tell from the footage exactly where this happened and its felt strange driving through that spot since. Prayers and good will to all involved. Those men injured will have mental scars from that day. The unfortunate officer who had to put down the gunmen, I pray hes able to forgive himself and to know what he did was the right thing. The mental trauma of seeing and doing what he had to do, is not for the faint of heart or head. I truly pray he recovers.

"End of watch"..... that does hit hard.... it's almost suggesting that the 23 year old officer has a pregnant wife waiting for her husband to return home from work... instead, that day she would only be welcomed with a phone call... just those two softly spoken words transformed her entire world in an instant.. Slowly slipping into a intoxicating madness, her mind severed from our realm, accelerating away to her safe place. A place drifting afar from the space where it once was. Once whole..

I live here… I also live very close to where this took place… They were thinking that the shooter was on his way to either the yearly street fair, or the RRVF before they stopped at that accident

This makes my blood boil. 23yrs old. Im his age and i havent even lived my whole life, he wasnt able to live his life to the fullest. And its so upsetting.

I went to a roadtrip to Fargo on Jun this year from Houston, it was a very safe city in my mind, I hangout along in downtown for entire afternoon, which is something I would never do in other big cities. Can’t believe this thing happened there.
