Jed Hoyer's decisions re: the trade deadline is typical of his leadership. He does just enough to tantalize us that he's going to do something big, and then stops. I didn't expect anyone would want Wisdom. But the others? It's probably another situation where Jed held out for the "perfect" deal to the point that he didn't make some deals. He's such a hesitant leader, but he who hesitates is lost!

“More is lost by indecision, than wrong decision.” - This is going to be Jed’s Cub legacy.

It was way too little. They needed to trade more. Obviously this team is not constructed to win. They needed to move a lot more people if they want to compete in 2025.

There's free agency this offseason. You can't force another team to trade with you. This isn't fantasy league.

Aggressiveness is a bit of a stretch. They need one or two home run hitters, one more ace, a catcher with a cannon arm. I hope that June Swanson and Belli get it together next year

I love the moves Jed made, but I am also very disappointed in the moves he didn't make. Go Cubs Go!

No one knows the deals Jed Hoyer tried to make and he’s never going to say. I’d prefer that Hoyer “stand pat” instead of cleaning house just for the sake of cleaning house.
Swanson was robbed of a home run last night. I have no idea who reviewed that play but they got it wrong.
I wouldn’t say the Cubs stood pat…according to some sports radio guys, the Cubs got the best bat available at the deadline and Paredes brings more stability at third base. The guys they got from the Yankees look promising…we may see Neely on the major league roster later this year.

I'll give Steele a mulligan for this season. Getting injured the first game and needing over a month to come back really put him at a disadvantage and then it took him another month to get his mojo back. I suspect he's still experiencing a little discomfort and won't be completely over his injury until next season. Plus, he said that he's been sick recently. It would be best if the Cubs just shut him down the rest of the season and save him for subsequent seasons since they're going nowhere this year, but you know they're too stupid to do that. I just hope Steele doesn't get injured even worse as this miserable season winds down. I'm guessing he'll struggle the rest of the way. But he's being a real trooper, which is good, I suppose. Hopefully, he works hard to strengthen his body in the offseason to avoid injury and comes back in 2025 looking like the Steele of 2023. And even with all his struggles, his ERA is still quite good, which is a testament to how talented he is.

I am not sure anyone wanted Nervis, Belli, Talillon, Tauchman or Wisdom mostly due to the contact situations. I believe the Cubs over valued Hoerner and wanted a haul for him. I personally don't want Hoerner traded because besides the fact I really like him, I am not sure any of the kids are ready yet to take over the position. I true believe that if Belli was healthy and stays healthy he can be the middle of the order bat (along with Paredes that the Cubs need. I think Nervis would be great in a set up role, but not the closer. I don't' really want to spend a lot on a closer or to be honest, any bull pen arm. If They can find a real closer, then I am ok with him as a set up, if not then get rid of him if Cousel insists on using him in the close because he is the veteran arm in the bull pen. Taillon is ok as a 3rd or 4th starter, but I want an Ace to move him down in the pecking order. Yes, I know, Steele is your Ace and Shota if not an Ace, a half of step below that, but Shota has only one season in the MLB, let's give him a year before we anoint him. I want another stud Starting pitcher, so then you have more depth and a bunch of kids (assad, Hortan, Killian, Wicks, Thompson and ??) competing for the 5th spot). Tauchman I guess would be the 5th outfielder/ bench dude ((Happ, PCA, Seya and Belli) so if you can get something for him sure, but I doubt anyone would be interested, but also dont' want to give him up for nothing. Tacuhman has proved to be a useful piece. I like Smyle the lone veteran arm, so I would keep him at least until they get another veteran arm in the pen this off season. I want the Cubs to sign a veteran arm for the pen, just not a close since I think the price will be way too high and chances are way too high (at least for me) the guy will regress and the Cubs will be stuck in the situation again in '25 with a closer that blows too many saves.

Jed didn’t do enough after Paredes and MLJ. Sorry, maybe they didn’t get enough back for others. Still, the way it looks, the bad contracts will still be here in 2025. Belli, Happ, Swanson. Busch, Nico, Suzuki….this team is going to be 75% THE SAME TEAM AGAIN in 2025, unless Jed really moves/trades or sign multiple FA’s to reshape this squad. That’s why I keep saying it looks like such an uphill battle. If I were Jed, I wouldn’t know where to start first, for the love of all that’s holy.

Please stop talking about the playoffs. They are NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS. Taillon had a terrible game on Monday. He has been overperforming. He will not be better next year. I am in the minority, but IMO Steele is overrated too. The previously sparkling rotation has taken taken a huge dive. I am just a fan, but I can see the potential for complete collapse.

    • @DionysusAlS

You don't think the swirling trade rumors had anything to do with his performance? It's pretty much a given that they did. Taillon is a little better than a serviceable starter. You need guys like him to contend. Not every pitcher is going to be Randy Johnson or Jake Arrieta in their primes.
