I would love to hear your financial story. Also, I have two main goals for the year, each of which need to be broken down into actionable pieces. (1) Get back into regular use of my bullet journal. (2) Transition from "getting past cancer" to "living a healthy life."

Same! I’m a cancer survivor. I still take a daily chemo pill, but completed active treatment in 2021. So I’ve felt stuck mentally. I decided this year I start the real healing mentally and physically from cancer. I know I’ll never be who I was pre cancer, but I want to be the strongest and healthiest I can be.

Hi Michele, love the diverse topics on your channel! I started following you when it was all about makeup/beauty. At the time, that was my primary interest. The pandemic lockdown came and went, consequently most of us reprioritized what matters most. Lifestyle, health, diet, fitness and home are what I seek from the content creators and podcast hosts who I follow. Please do share your financial experience, we all have one. I am happy to say that the earlier lessons of money are the best lessons I have learned. Enjoy the day!!

It’s hard for some if you have 2 incomes. Etc. Also if you have a single income as well. So yeah this would be interesting I, for one , never have extra to spend (not luxury like most buying clothes and purses. Etc ) I can’t even get one 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I have always had to shop smart and I don’t own credit card bills. Etc. Just home now. But I want the secret. Ha

@@louisesharpyHonestly I feel that this whole ‘flexing’ thing on social media is a lot of it. And a lot of what you see isn’t the truth and people are living well beyond their means. Or they don’t pay their bills and buy a purse instead. I really don’t post much of what I buy. It makes me uncomfortable. I buy things I like and will use and enjoy. I’m a true taurus! My only advice is not to go into credit card debt to buy a bag. I think afterpay is ok if you have the funds and are diligent and keep track of it. I think that’s where the trouble starts for a lot of people. 😊

@@eatmyoctopus oh yeah. I know. Been on social a long long time. I don’t have credit card debt. It’s why I don’t own luxury I trousers to use them. It took a long time to get free of debt. Only because I have a small income. But yes, agreed

I find the psychology/behavioral aspect of finances fascinating as I believe that sometimes we are all astute managers of our finances and sometimes not so much. I have no debt only my mortgage which I’m trying to pay off asap. We just build an enclosed porch paid all cash $30000. We upgraded our kitchen cash 4 years ago 45000. We payed cash for our cars. It took us years to save for house remodeling. Now we need a new roof $25000 to 30000. And we are saving for that. Meanwhile, we are sending extra principal payments for our mortgage. It feels so good to pay cash for everything. My car is 9 yrs old and paid off 7 years ago. It runs great. We believe in saving and spending less. We also want to paint the outside of the house but we will pay cash. It’s the only way to go. People please sacrifice and save

Thank you, Michele!! Sitting down together and thinking through some goals made it much less overwhelming. A few months ago, I finally quit my soul-crushing corporate desk job that I had for many years. I stayed for as long as I did, just because it was stable. But in truth I felt like a prisoner dying a slow death, and it finally got to a point where I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm so glad I finally left, but now, I feel like an empty shell: The only skills I have, are for a job that I hate. I have no idea what to do now, all I know is that I will never do anything close to that job ever again. I don't even know how to figure out what I want, much less how to bring it to fruition. I never had any dreams or goals for the longest time because I was just trying to survive. I feel so lost, directionless, skill-less, overwhelmed, paralyzed...So needless to say, this video came at a time that I really needed it!

I was so very excited when I paid off my mortgage a few years ago. 🎉 I hate how streaming services are now charging monthly. I'd much rather do an annual subscription! Wow! Seeing you 5 times a week on RUclips would be great! I don't do Instagram or Tik Tok. I do enjoy shorts on RUclips as well as long form though. Good luck with your goals. At 74, don't laugh, one of my 2024 goals is to maybe start dating again (that word scares me silly). I'm not sure or even comfortable about looking on line. 🥴

I am so with you on the credit card debt…..I learned a valuable lesson from my past and have finally gotten things paid off. It took my line of credit….gone! When i buy anything beauty, home etc. i literally pay off the charge on my card…and get points to use for something fun! It freaks me out having any debt staring at me. My 20’s and 30’s were absolutely nuts with denial about what i owed. It takes good advice and not spending out of your reality. I can now in my 50’s feel good about how i spend.

I have one goal, which means everything to my future mobility and health......strength training. As you know, I'm not young. I've seen myself becoming frail, which is the last thing 'extremely' mature individuals can afford to be. I'm finally going to take advantage of my free gym membership and build the muscle necessary to sustain old age. My goal is to age in place (gracefully) in my home until I'm carried out, feet first, toes up!😂

I have always loved your content, but I feel like I love it even more now, when it’s not just about every new luxury make up release. I really enjoyed Mishmass this year and specifically, it was so cozy and personal and just like a nice relaxing catch up with a friend. Love your idea of goals vs resolutions. I have to say I am thinking about watching RUclips, the way you are thinking about watching Masterclass - “Is that really what I want to spend my time on?” So I am becoming much more selective with what videos I watch. Some of my goals are - being deliberate about what I spend my time on, read more, cook at home more, take walks every day as much as possible, pay off some debt, work harder towards my career change. Would love to watch a video on your financial history if you feel like making one.

Unsolicited suggestion….before planning the improvements for your backyard, make it a goal to use the area, as it is, for 2 weeks. What’s missing, what do you like/don’t like. Focus on your realist self and not your fantasy self. Living in Florida, with my first pool/deck, I spent thousands setting everything up without intentional thought. I use the area MAYBE once or twice per year. I also have to stress whenever tropical systems come towards our state and I have to pack everything into the pool shed. Next time, I’m getting a folding pool chair, personal umbrella and a pool noodle. That’s all I need!

Michele, I love you! It’s like hearing my own voice, obviously, with a different tone, L O L, as I think things through. I often think about writing things out in a planner, and I’m all into the idea of the goals. Then I kind of get in my own head and think well if I write it down am I going to go back and literally updated and lotta times I start some thing like you were mentioning in your other video and then I get a couple pages in and then I never get back to it. Crazy I know. But I am kind of a goal person and you are making me think that maybe for 2024 I should be revisit this. I love the look of the planner but would like to know where you can get a cover similar to the one that you show.
Also, I’d love to hear about your financial experiences. Actually curious how you got to where you are.

I like your approach of using SMART - we use it in the work setting, so I don't know why I didn't think of it for personal goals haha! My goals for this year are to learn something new (I'm targeting a wine certification), build on something existing (last year I challenged myself to make a new recipe every week - this year, I'd like to make a new plant based recipe every week), and improve on my self care (last 2 years, it was all about skin care, this year, I'd like to learn more about hair/scalp care). Watching your video prompts me to revisit this next quarter to see what else I can add to my list so it's not an overwhelming one to start the year off with!

I didn't hear anything about content on RUclips shorts. Additionally, I think 4 times a week for RUclips long form would be better. It's like every other day.
I hate monthly debt too. I don't mind auto pay or paying off my credit card each month. It's anything that I bought on credit because they were offering 0% interest for 18 months. Ugh, I hate that bill & I'm so afraid what if I miss it and now owe the full amount plus the 18 months of interest because I defaulted.

    Hi Michele,
I’m sure everyone and their neighbor knows this, but as far as good quality healthy recipes - Downshiftology RUclips channel. Lisa is huge on RUclips and has released her own book of recipes. I’ve been following her for years, and even though I’m not gluten free like she is (her health issues inspired her to pursue this nutrition career, actually) - the recipes are so universal, versatile, rather simple, and simply great. Delicious and healthy. Just in case you haven’t heard of her but most definitely you must have.
Thank you for yet another inspirational video!

Interesting vlog. I like the distinction between goals and resolutions. My only major goal for this year, so far, is clearing out a lot of my unused clothes and completely reorganizing our storage, everywhere. We are outgrowing our house because there is so much that has accumulated living here for two decades. I am a big believer in the admonition, "Establish, Maintain, Improve Order", so it fits in with my continual search for better ways to organize my extensive belongings, LOL. And maybe start working out on our rowing machine again -- I have fallen down on that. Thanks for reminding me to be specific. 🤩

I appreciate your thoughts on this goal achieving business. I’m reading Atomic Habits and it’s interesting that, in addition to goals, tweaking my habits will be helpful. For example, I’ve wanted to be more reflective, and I struggle with this. So, rather than writing a diary, I’ve started using my planner to make ‘jots’ about my day in the Weekly sections in addition to the planning I do on the Month pages. Then I put my cute markers next to the couch, which is my visual reminder to pick up the planner and jot. It just takes a couple of minutes, which has been way less than the burden my mind anticipated. So far so good!

I think 5 posts per week is ambitious. The only thing I base that on is that I work a 5 day work week, and it’s draining. Two days is not enough to keep flexibility an integral component of your work. It might be different since your work is inherently flexible, but 4 days might be the way to go. It’s my dream anyway!

This was a great video that im finally getting to mid February. My job sucks in January so its hard to embrace the new year mindset. Trying to tell myself its ok to start march 1 if need be or any day for that matter. I have plenty of goals this year. Some home projects like u have and a reading goal as well. Some different things are to do more yoga (my flexibility sucks without yoga), get a will (so morbid but its time), and to read/listen to things to specifically help w self confidence. I have my goals printed out in categories and i hang it on my bathroom door. This way i see them often and when brushing my teeth i try to focus on a section to remind me. Good luck on ur goals!

Love this video Michele, it’s very inspiring to listen to you ´think out loud´ when working out the details of your goals. I also do not do resolutions, but I often set myself some keywords for the new year that I should focus on. This year its quality and contentment (I’m Norwegian, so some nuances might be lost when trying to translate). I'm your age and I pretty much have everything I need. When making a decision or considering a purchase etc, I want to focus on fewer, but better additions to my life and also appreciate what I already have.
I do not watch that much you tube, but I watch you. Quality. 😍

Good luck on all your goals, I think they are awesome. I worry though about the 5 days a week You Tube uploads. While I would enjoy that, I don't want you to stress out too much. We would be happy with any new video from you! This year my goal is to work less and live more. I like how the Calm app focused on "growth" for 2024 instead of doing "goals". The latter focuses on the outcome which can be discouraging if not achieved. Growth is more about the journey and celebrates progress, big or small.
I agree that if you have the funds, pay off the car. I work in investments and the general view is that the only acceptable debt is mortgage and possibly education (both considered investments). In the current high interest rate regime, it is not advisable to finance something that loses its value the moment you drive it out from the dealership. Unless you go into some risky assets, your funds will not earn enough to cover the interest you are paying for your car. If you have the funds, just pay it off, be done with it and enjoy the car that is all yours.

For food goals, I recommend Sadia Badiei, aka Pick of Limes, has really great recipes here on RUclips & her website. She's a registered dietician, so I found her dishes to be healthy. There's also Gaz Oakley here on RUclips, who was a chef & makes fun meatless dishes too. I'm a meat eater & I thought switching up recipes I ate a few times a week for variety would be good for my health & my search led me to them. It's been great.

Love your goals, and I’m glad you talked about SMART because now I can try to use that too. I haven’t really made 2024 goals yet…but I will give it a try with the SMART framework! They will be related to ballroom dance (my serious hobby, I dance every day), my job (need to set networking and career growth goals, I just started this job 6 months ago), buying a house (that’s the goal, LOL), and learning Russian.

My goal for the next 3 months is to pursue an anti inflammatory diet. So far so good. I will continue depending on the short term results. Unsweetened almond milk in my coffee has been a hit. I have chronic severe pain. To add to my mobility I have adopted a dog, 10 year old Maltese mix, and am taking 4 short walks with him per day. I live in the North East and it is not easy to get motivated some days. I’m thankful that he is a very patient pup.

I have been having major dental work since 2020. Finally done a couple of months ago, but put me in a very large amount of financial debt. This year, I will concentrate on reducing that debt drastically. Also, have decided to exercise every single day and have been successful since the first of the year; 30 minutes every evening, either Pilates or yoga.
I don't like resolutions either. I take it one day at a time. Having a long list is difficult to maintain anyways and can soon be forgotten a few months into the year.
I have been using the small Hobonichi for the past 3 years and I love it. For me, it is kind of a diary/sketch book that depicts what's happening that specific day. It is relaxing to take time to doodle and sketch for a short time... like being in my own world and my own thoughts.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and plans with us. I wish you the best. This was a good tangent away from makeup. Thank you.
