As a person with only 200 hrs in battlefield 4, I think I'm decent at flying but dealing with stingers/Iglas and lasers were always confusing. This helped a lot, Cheers mate.

Theres a way to defeat Mobile AA with scout heli.
If you bait his active protection with a minigun switch after firing the first guided missile. The missile will go up but wont be lost. switch back to guided and lockon to target and the missile will come back along with your second guided. Then you can try to smaw him from behind the cover you shot him from
Any sub decent AA with a brain will simply out damage and counter you and recognize the bait, even with that much dps you still can't solo counter an AA.
@@x8reaps late reply but i see you liked my comment recently. Did you figure out what i was talking about? I know i explained it poorly but its basically an exploit lol. If you fire a guided missile and switch to miniguns right after. The missile will go up and wont come down unless you re-lock the target. Also the target will get a missile warning and waste active protection.
And when your 2nd guided is reloaded and locked youll see your 1st guided missile come out of the clouds and double strike it.

@@x8reaps Oh wow, thanks for the reply! I've always had a few issues with flying in air vehicles.
Firstly, how do you see infantry and the like when flying? Ground vehicles like the tank or the LAV have thermal vision, so it's easy to pick out enemies in the distance, but this isn't the case when piloting helis. How do you do it?
Secondly, though this relates to the first point, is how do you find and deal with IGLA and Stinger users, and SOFLAM and PLD users? They're always the No. 1 cause of me getting shot down before I can even get anywhere.

@@xanderabbey8529 The first question is more of just ur eyes learn to adjust and spot easier over time, just takes time but also in high traffic areas I spam Q to spot all the time.
Second question it is in my guide at 14 and 18 minutes Stingers and Lasers, I don't have an attack Heli guide but the survival concepts are almost identical, its just the aiming that's different, maybe ill add more guides in the future :P
there's something really heartening to hear that AA vehicles are actually scary and work properly in BF4, after hearing how everything infantry can do is counterable.

Me and friends trained low ground flying for hours. In the end we were so good at it, that we could dive, run and hide always.
Unless we got hit randomly, or hunted by a very good jet.
But learning how to fly the helicopter at max speed 3 feet above the ground is like the most fun and helpfull thing to do in this game.
Eventually we got good enough, that we could fly backwards through most forests, while shooting people down.
Still, flying low makes it even easier for me to hit you with my stealthy/casual TOW missile launched from my LAV…

Hitting a really good, fast flying helicopter is difficult. But yes, the possibility exists, it is more a last resort escape, if hunted down by jets for example or to escape Stingers. And it is hell fun, especially if you have new gunners, who scream at you, because they are afraid you ram them into the ground. Only for that it is worth practicing it :D
Normally I would circle of death you in a height you can't reach with the LAV.
Altho I have to admit, I have not that much experience in the LAV, I am more the Maintank guy. So I am not sure if the LAV can aim significantly higher than an MBT.
That is a question worth trying out, so I do not get caught empty handed when trying to circle you to death, if we ever meet on the Battlefield :D
@@dag1704 I gun down attack helicopters, scout helicopters and jets (less frequently ofc) all day long. Often multiple per match, but it depends on how much time I spend in the LAV. Not that difficult if you always position your LAV smart (considering infy, ground vehicles and air targets. Never base camping though). Still, I will never fear a scout heli as a ground vehicle unless I am low or in a fight with other vehicles/lots of infy. There is always a way to elevate myself so I can get a shot off, or retreat and re-engage. My biggest fear is an AH or AJ coming at me from a high angle on a map with poor visual range and edges for me to lean from. In the end it is all about balance. How good is the heli pilot or LAV driver, also how likely is it they’ll end up fighting and does the map favor one over the other? As an example (I hate this map, but it gives me a lot of advantages) Silk Road usually serves as a helicopter graveyard. Scout helicopters choosing to spend minutes fighting one ground vehicle is also waisting kills. Time is kills.
LAV is underrated. Probably the most versatile vehicle. An amphibious “tank” with a TOW missile capable of near cross map kills (manually/locked), locking on to laser painted targets, all while being an armored squad transport vehicle.
@@von_Fairhair To be fair, that is one of my favorite hobbies too. Shooting down a Helicopter or even better jet with a ground vehicle is just awesome.
But yeah, if you have a skilled attackhelipilot, that knows what he is doing and has you on open ground, you are screwed.
The only thing that could save you is a good gunner and air support stopping the heli from doing its thing and forcing it into retreat or killing it.
I have just rarely or nearly never seen the circle of death on PC, but I have seen it sometimes and done it often on PS3.
Simple explanation, you tilt your helicopter 45 degrees left or right, pitch the nose down and fly circles around one point, ideally in a height the ground vehicle you are targeting can't reach.
Consequence is, the attack heli constantly fires missles at the ground vehicle, while staying in a save altitude.
It is a pretty high skilled maneuver to master, that gets fucked up if you fight more than one ground vehicle that focuses you, or have enemy airforce targeting you.
But if for example the tank or LAV drives on a slope to gain altitude with the main gun, you can simply stop the rotation dead in its tracks and shoot it from behind, where it can't reach you, if it moves, you start circling into a safe position again.
But yeah, many attack heli pilots are completely braindead idiots, not looking out for what they are doing. :D
Currently the biggest threat IMO are jets as a heli, because if you try to gain some altitude, they instantly hunt you down like a sitting duck. When they spray you down with 2 jets and you can't seek cover or reposition yourself smart to force them of you, they kill you in one run.
So if your jets are bad and you have no air superiority, in an Attack Heli your best bet is to stay low and fly smart, using cover and escape routes.
If you have air superiority, it is completely different, but that at least in my games rarely happens.
This is also why I only play hardcore mode. No spotting, no vehicle health regen, and it is easier to take out those pesky helicopters trying to farm kills. Get a few guys set up in a few places on the map and they are done. In core, you can see them on your map and avoid all of them and wist for your health regen.

btw one question, is awareness(of the surroundings i guess) in heli increasing as you play it more? That's my biggest issue, sometimes i don't know from where the smav/stingers are coming from.(Also i have trouble seeing enemies[not spotted], but i think it's my personal issue, as i use max mesh qual). Again awesome stuff.
Thank you dude, and yes just from playing you will grow more awareness and being able to spot things easier but keep in mind I do a lot of small things too, I glance at the minimap a lot and use the big map on screen a shit ton as well, I use visual and audio cues, anything to get all the info I can basically.

Killing pro Scout pilots with Stingers is one of my favorite things to do. The scout is also my favorite. It helps to be very familiar with the typical pro strategy, because you can essentially funnel them into a situation they can't escape by pretending to be a Stinger noob. That's the thing about Scout pilots, we love to kill those Stinger noobs, so it's like bait.

Stingers will never kill a pro scout. Maybe glitched Iglas, but not stingers.

PS4 player here, I like mini guns but prefer 25mm because I go after armor more and shoot out pilots. I’m decent with mini guns but I think it’s harder for precision aiming with good movement using a controller.
Great tips! I would add road killing, I do it for fun on unsuspecting infantry. Flying backwards is another good skill, it helps when another scout/attack heli has position advantage or surprises you. Z-111 is bigger and isn’t as resilient hitting the ground…little bird can take way more abuse before it will blow up, you can just slam it to the ground.
I have the most difficulty trying to take out jets and the attack helicopter out on Golmund. Jets will always fly too high and attacks will fire from base with either protection from AA tank and base AA gun. Best I’ll do is keep dominating pilots from having high kill count games while keeping them held at bay.
I mean at the end of the day dude it is just preference, I'm only speaking from raw experience here of things, I have over 300k Scout Heli kills and for about 50k of those I used the 25mm cannons, with practice, u can move just as fluently and accurately with miniguns, the key with miniguns is you kill them so fast they don't have time to react, 25mm kill much much slower and do overall much less damage, you can still shoot pilots out with miniguns by forcing them to turn and killing them from the side, the 25mm are excellent at shooting pilots out but a good pilot will simply keep their distance.
Road killing and Flying backwards are handy, like flying backwards as ur being chased to perform a handbrake manoeuvre is something I did forget the mention and is helpful, Road killing against good players is virtually impossible so its not a skill id recommend learning personally, for me its more of just a fun thing, on golmud for me i try to close distance, u wanna use the hills and mountains to get closer but its situational like everything, jets u just need to compete with their ceiling but its hard depending on the jet pilot.

Its up to you honestly, I just have always used mouse and keyboard I'm not familiar at all with other controls.

Spotting is disabled in hardcore, but unless its a custom hardcore then yes it works in all gamemodes.

Helping out even 2 years later. I've got nearly 3k hours flying in other games like Arma 3 & Squad. So the flying was really easy for me to master instantly. But the rest like the way aiming works and countering missiles with movement, that I'm still getting the hang of but this definitely helped cheers.

Wait, how do you remove the FPS cap? It’s always locked at my monitors refresh rate (165hz) (6900xt OC) and disabled Amd free sync, and disabled the vsync in game settings too.
Its a command called gametime.maxvariablefps 0 if you create a text document in your BF4 directory called user and make sure the extension ends in .cfg and not .txt with that line in it, the game will boot every time with the fps uncapped.

How do you move between targets so fast without overshooting? Tapping seems to hardly move my aim at all, and holding it even for a second makes it overshoot hard
Its really hard to explain but, I have timed the exact amount I need to hold left or right and the enough amount to counter it by doing the opposite direction, so as an example I hold Left or tap it, (depending on distance) let go let the glide carry it then tap right or hold right a bit just enough to shut down the momentum but not enough to force it back, its very hard to explain but if you just play Zavod trees for a few days like an hour a day you will get used to it and find out what I mean. It will come naturally the more you do it and u won't even think about it. I am also using the mouse as well to do certain target transitions.

Do Javelins do 100 damage from laser targets?
I've been one shooting helis with javelins of lasers and they always one shot.
so are they 100 damage or am i just lucky?
No they are either 95 or 90, I forgot the exact amount but, ur one shotting them most likely because they have taken some damage.

Make sure you put it in the "Mouse" column, I made the same mistake when I started, your most likely trying to place it into the keyboard column lol

Thats all good and stuff but it baffles me how nobody showed to remap the s key to shift so you cpuld have more when u manouver. When u press both ascend and descent it just locks the heli and flying through buildings is so much eazier.

Can U make a beginner pilots guide for people have a little flying skills, like for the type of people that immediately get in helicopter and crash it.
Everything I said in the video I would encourage beginners to do, there is no shortcut, no magical piece of information or setting that will get u where you wanna go, u have to dedicate time and practice, its pure dedication, I'm just helping you with the tools but you have to use them.

I'd like to see you do this on console. It really is like two different games. All your tips are totally valid, but aiming on PC is Easy Mode in comparison.
I played about 300h on my PS3 and flying and aiming helicopters was for me way easier with a controller.
As I switched to PC, I had to plug in the controller, or I would crash constantly. Mouse and keyboard are just not as logical as a controller for me, it feels more natural.
It ain’t the aiming, it’s the 30hz servers which gives bad hit detection. Time to kill is slower on console due to a lot of the mini gun rounds not hitting properly. On pc, takes half a second to laser a dude with them, as long as you got a solid ping.
Nah I played PS4 bf4 for hundreds of hours and it felt so much easier with a controller I had to relearn on PC and the movement with a controller is so much smoother but mouse does have a higher skill ceiling so once you master it you can get a lot better
