- Southwest Airlines is known for several of its rare offerings, including free baggage, its point-to-point route network, and its tendency to only sell tickets directly through its own channels. Another of these unique-to-Southwest features is the airline’s policy of unallocated seat assignments - what it calls, “open seating.”
Southwest has stuck with this model since its beginnings. Why is this? Let’s examine a few reasons.

I work at Southwest and our boarding process is faster than at previous airlines I’ve worked for.
I fly Southwest often and I LOVE the open seating policy. I hope they never change it. It is one of the biggest reasons that I fly Southwest.
Me too I've been flying with SOUTHWEST for over 20 years and I'm a rapid reward member I agree there's no need to change what works so well for so many years
Really like the open seating policy, one of the reasons that I fly with them almost exclusively.
Again, I can count on one hand how many times they were late for reasons out of their control, like weather, and have been on several flights that arrived early. In addition, I never have been stranded with them but have been with other airlines due to crew timing out or mechanical issues.
Good concept, don't change nothing SouthWest, keep doing what you doing!!!
One of the main reasons I fly Southwest and been flying them since 1993 was because of the low fares and the open seating...
I absolutely “love” open seating!!! Please don’t change to assigned seating 🙏🏽
I normally prefer to choose my seat when booking my ticket so that I can guarantee that my seat will be over the wing. For longer flights, I want to choose my seat. On shorter flights-- less than 3 hours-- I do not care about seat selection that much. More than anything I hate that airlines have begun to charge for seat selection. I hate to pay extra for stuff that should come with the fare. In most cases, I choose the airline on the lowest price.
I paid for some type of seating and now I don’t know what I paid for
I love flying Southwest
I think I hate this person
No bagage fees and open seating is the reason i have been flying southwest
I was apprehensive at first, but found that it was much faster to board. I say that if it helps to allow SW to keep their prices low, I'M ALL FOR IT!
Hate waiting in lines 20 min before the boarding even starts.
Every time i fly Southwest i usually get stuck boarding with group C and find it quite hard to get able to board with group A,i have boarded with group B a few times but never with group A i usually get stuck in group C 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Benefit: let's you get away with having ANCIENT ticketing software
Don't mess with SWA
i find it annoying because if i dont manage to get the front of the queue or where ever to get the seat that i want i cant get it but if they were allocated i can choose online and not have to worry about any of that
Why SW is the best airline? Here are the few reasons why: 2 free check-in luggage, early check in option, the humorous staff, the free snacks, the proficient boarding process, open seating, early arrival and SOFT LANDING by most if not ALL THE PILOTS!!
Every passenger is equal, except those with "status" are more so. Squeezing every nickel and dime out of boarding. Works for now, but they'll be looking for more revenue over time and things will change (not for the better).
People that fly south west likes this about the airlines that’s why they still keep business
American Airlines has more boarding groups than India's caste system.
why are you like this🤣
🤣🤣
Please no assigned seats.
Note to self: Avoid flying on Southwest if I can't book/choose my beloved window seat.
If you don't know that by now...
@@wojomojo I do know now for when next visiting the US. Southwest doesn't fly to our side of the Atlantic.
There are less instances of split families on southwest flights than other airlines because of this.
It's the wild west
Exactly why I NEVER fly SouthWest. Not ever.
Unallocated seating let you avoid the fat person, the creepy person, the ugly person, and the old person, and the middle seat. For the win....
taxi
The English is very good, excellent
I would for Southwest to assigned seats, I would also like Southwest to get rid of these new snacks that they came up with. Or offer both the old and the new.
Early Bird, is going away, please update your post.
Absolutly hate it.
I dont like it, I want my seat assigned so no one acttually tries to get it
Will never fly them
That seating is terrible. I will never fly southwest again
To many unqualified pre-boarders. I’m for assigned seating
Did you run out of things to talk about? Your talking about southwest's seating. Go find something interesting to report on!!!
Relax, Francis!
You’d be amazed the number of people who don’t realize this, if they’ve never flown Southwest before. I’ve met so many people while waiting to catch my plane who think “C21” or whatever their boarding position is, is their seat number. One pair still didn’t seem to understand the concept after being explained multiple times by the agent checking tickets, that no, you can’t board yet.
No seat assignment no business from me. This is why Southwest never earns my business.
For this reason I will never fly on SW. Well, this and the fact they only fly the 737 which is the plane I loathe the most. Oh, and the fact they are almost always NOT on time.
