If I've done this I've always made sure my phone had a decent charge so by the time I use it the phone will be dry although that's when wireless charging comes into play lol

You were unlucky, my galaxy A3 2017 fell into a pot of stew last year, I brought it out thoroughly washed off the mess with liquid soap and running water. It didn't miss a beat function wise. It has IP 68 rating.
