Thanks for watching our video! In general, it is acceptable to elevate the platform on a JLG 400S to where work is required, shut down the engine to perform the job, then restart for lowering the platform. However, we recommend that for jobs requiring a short period of time, that you leave the engine running to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on the starter and battery. In addition, we would like to make sure every operator understands that proper training is required before operating a boom lift, including classroom instruction and hands on familiarization of the specific make and model to make sure you understand the procedure for lowering the platform in the event the engine will not start when platform is elevated.
@@AlexanderEquipmentRentalInc Sunbelt rented me the 60 foot and only asked "do you know how to operate it" and I said "I grew up logging.... Operated skidders, loaders, tree harvesters, etc..... been about 10 years though..." And they said "great well if you have any questions give us a call" Not a walk through or anything...... They didn't even include the safety harness for it, they said I have to buy my own.... I thought that was pretty crazy....
@@christophermhudson09 Funny same sunbelt experience over here. They dropped it on my job and left the key in i, they said it was totally fine. Ok. I think the harness thing is a liability. If they provide safety equipment and it fails, lawsuit. If they don't include it and leave it up to you in the contract, the liability is on you. At least, thats how I think it probably works. The rigs are about $100 at depot.
Thanks for watching our video. This is a great question and requires a bit of detail so please forgive the long reply. Traveling in the stowed position is allowed on a sloped surface as long as it does not exceed the max slope rating for the machine. Maximum travel grade in the stowed position can be found in the operator's manual and should be 30% for 2WD and 45% for 4WD option. (Maximum side slope for traveling in stowed position is 5 degrees) However, all MEWP's including a JLG 400S boom lift are intended to be elevated only on a firm level surface. Always rely on the manufacturer provided operators manual specific to the make and model of the machine you are required to operate. The following is directly from the JLG 400S operator's manual: "Section 4.2 Operating Characteristics and Limitations: Capacities: Raising the boom above horizontal and/or extension of boom beyond retracted position with or without a load is based on the following criteria: 1. Machine is positioned on smooth, firm and level surface. 2. Load is within the manufacturer's rated design capacity. 3. All machine systems are functioning properly. 4. Proper tire pressure exists in the tires. 5. Machine is as originally equipped from JLG." The only lifts that can be elevated on a sloped surface are ones that are equipped with outriggers such as a properly equipped rough terrain scissor lift. Remember, only trained and authorized personnel are allowed to operate a mobile elevating work platform. We highly recommend proper training for all operators.
The emergency stop buttons both need to be in the up position in order to operate the boom lift from the platform controls. In the event of an emergency where the power needs to be cut immediately, press the emergency stop button in.

Great video!
How does one operate this on non level ground say around a building ? Does the base compensate up to a certain amount of slope ?

Do you need to put your emergency stop button when you're up there , like a scissor lift ?

If any fault what can I do
