My Whitney story. I am in my seventies and I was at that concert 3rd row with my friend Gina. This was one of the eight concerts that I saw Whitney in the mid eighties, all in NY state. I met and talked to her on two occasions, once in Lake Placid and also Saratoga. We were obsessed with her and new we were seeing musical history in the making. At Lake Placid, we went to the Holiday Inn where they were staying around noon (the day of her concert) and saw Ricky Miner and some of her band in the lobby. Everyone was nice and told us Whitney would be coming to the restaurant at some point. Gina and I waited in the narrow hallway. About 30 minutes went by and we looked up and there was Whitney, Robyn Crawford and a bodyguard face to face 3 feet away from us. It was probably the most exciting, surreal feeling I have ever had. Having seen all her videos numerous times she was so beautiful like a Barbie doll come to life right before our eyes. It was just the 5 of us. We told her how much we loved her and couldn't wait to see her that night. We talked to her for about 5 minutes and she signed my vinyl album. A little later she came out of the restaurant and signed some autographs. Gina and I talked to Robyn off to the side during that time and she was really cool. We were in the first row that night. We had seats in row 16 already so we gave two girls $100 to change seats with us. Of the 8 times I saw her, 5 of those were 1st or 2nd row from stage. Too see Whitney live was so incredible and there is no doubt in my mind she is the greatest singer of all time (I have seen many of the best during my life). This video at Saratoga Maybe the best of all of her live videos and I feel so blessed to have been there to see it. I remember her telling the audience they were doing the video and everyone was so excited about it. I also met her brother Gary at Saratoga Radisson hotel in the afternoon of her concert and he gave me 2 3rd row seats after I showed him my 300 page album I had made to honor her. She looked thru my album and jokingly asked if I was giving it to her and I said I don't think so, she autographed my album which I still have. I also gave her roses each of the two years she performed at the NY state fair when she did her first song, one being "How will I Know".

Probably the best live performance ever by any artist. The voice, The feeling, the passion, the clarity, the phrasing, the stage presense, the pure beauty..unmatched!!!
This video should have over 1 billion views. This is live without studio enhancement. She just stood flat footed and delivered from her soul to the listener's soul. You won't find that in today's singers.
Or ANYONE else EVER, TRULY THE VOICE OF VOICES Whitney is definitely in a class ALL BY HER SELF. What a privilege to have lived in this era to witness Such a mind boggling BEAUTY that was Whitney Elizabeth Houston and a voice that is Truly TRULY THE VOICE OF EVERY LIFETIME throughout History.

It was because it was arranged to be that way at that time. Her musical arranger was brilliant just as Whitney putting so much emotion and meaning to the song.
it's not just the voice. it's the power. it's the control. it's the perfect pitch. this woman is outdoors with a live band and stays in the pocket on every syllable like she's alone in her bathroom.
I couldnt agree more, other artists bring one or two of the quality's you've mentioned here but, whitney brought them all together, outdoors with a live band and gave us total perfection! She has set a bar that will probably never be reached. Truly, the greatest vocalist of all time

That's why she's the greatest singer of all time: her live performances are at times better than her studio recordings. I love the studio recordings but the live performances, she takes them up to the umpteenth power. :D
I hear you. I always loosely said that true Whitney fans aren't the ones that blasted The Bodyguard soundtrack the week she died. The true fans are the ones that were playing her FIRST TWO albums every day BEFORE she died
I keep coming back to it too...her performance is just breathtaking. She had many great performances throughout her wonderful career but, this tops them all for me!
Gabriel F I so want to challenge that and say it was the digital twisting music era that helped her but I can't...I just can't prove it. There's some damn good other female singers. These songs ,paired with her voice are truly something special and very unique
Jesus IsLord there is good singers, but Whitney’s one of the greats. She can sing almost any genre from classical to opera to R&B . She almost didn’t have a limit. THE VOICE.
I love how in the beginning, it's like she is telling the audience a story, taking them down memory lane etc. However, by the end of it, she was completely immersed in her reminiscing, to the point where you are brought to tears by what she must've been feeling and reliving at the time. It's so rare to see such an honest and vulnerable performance, underpinned by unspeakable talent... Miss you Ms Whitney!!
Spot on, she never had to fake it, God blessed her and blesses her still, I pray one day I get to meet her in spirit and communicate how deep her music meant in my life and does. Only her.
Whitney number 1, she was amazing live, outsang Mariah, and she taught 5 generations how to sing. Then you have Celine who is also great live and snatches the second place for consistency, third is Mariah, who is amazing in studio, has the best technique, and was phenomenal during her prime.
And that ladies and gentlemen is how it's done. Pay close attention cause you'll probably never see it again. The greatest voice of all time. I love how she's controlling the band at 3:22 she's telling them "bring it up, cause I'm about to go off". And again at 5:19 where she tells them "take it down". I can remember sitting up half the night watching VH1 waiting for this video to come on.
I never noticed that till you pointed it out! I thought her hand gestures were just part of her “feeling the music.” Even though it was probably both, she did an excellent job at controlling the band and telling them to quiet down at moments she knew her voice needed to be in the spotlight.
I love this performence all the long years I know it .. . One of the best music performences ever .. . love it love it love it ... never want to destroy your life as well as she has done ..
I saw her sing this live in 1987 and it was even more remarkable in person. This performance makes me tear up every time I watch this, and I watch it pretty regularly. Stunning.
I saw her live at the Greek Theater in CA in '86(it was my Freshman year of HS), you're absolutely right...it was life changing as a teenager. This and her singing "One Moment In Time" live at the Grammy's in a white dress are 2 of the best live performances I've ever seen in my life.

The voice, the soul, the power.... no one can sing better than Whitney.
Karen Carpenter was in same level as Whitney.God Bless them both.
Gerald Ahlstrom: No she wasn't, Karen had a beautiful voice no doubt about that.....but she didn't have nowhere near WH vocal range and power.
Right!! And even if she did, she never showed it. Whitney's voice has so much power!
And she didn’t need to dub it like another supposedly great singer.
@@achosenvessel6563 try ella fitzgerald...judy garland...barbra streisand...and of course aretha franklin...withney is among them...not above!!!
This is better than the studio version by a long mile! Way more soulful, and emotional.
Power. Simply amazing.
Live music is always better than in studio.
I can't listen to the studio version anymore. This is insanely beautiful.
No one, absolutely NO ONE, can sing this way LIVE nowadays like Whitney did then! This is absolutely stunning!! 👏💞
Fact 👍😊❤️
Glenn Grace is pretty awesome
glennis grace
Glenis Grace is good but Whitney is GOAT🥰🥰🥰
@@darrenbroughton2665 😘💋💯👌👌
Her voice is the most dominant musical instrument. of the band. Just amazing. RIP Whitney.
I keep coming back to this performance. This was Whitney at HER BEST!!!
Totally agree she was at her absolute peak with this performance......just incredible
Me too 😍😍😍
She always in peak. You just dont understand that. She is peak now and she is always been. Stfu.
I keep coming back to it too...her performance is just breathtaking.
She had many great performances throughout her wonderful career but, this tops them all for me!
I agree...THE BEST LIVE VERSION...feel it...listen to it..FEEL IT♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
I mean honestly, how can a voice get any better than this??? This woman is just spectacular.
D
I mean really!!!!
The best female singer of all time.
Gabriel F
I so want to challenge that and say it was the digital twisting music era that helped her but I can't...I just can't prove it.
There's some damn good other female singers. These songs ,paired with her voice are truly something special and very unique
Jesus IsLord there is good singers, but Whitney’s one of the greats. She can sing almost any genre from classical to opera to R&B . She almost didn’t have a limit. THE VOICE.
That depends on style not just voice. I saw her live . She was not that great.
None!!!!!! Will never born again another Whitney Elizabeth Houston!!! Forever Nippy! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
B Whitney is unachievable! The Greatest Voice of All Time! The Voice of God! Stop!
2024 and I still miss you more than ever!! All the way from Cape Town zA
She defines the 80’s era
Caution. Not only
I love how in the beginning, it's like she is telling the audience a story, taking them down memory lane etc. However, by the end of it, she was completely immersed in her reminiscing, to the point where you are brought to tears by what she must've been feeling and reliving at the time. It's so rare to see such an honest and vulnerable performance, underpinned by unspeakable talent... Miss you Ms Whitney!!
I love that description
Really? Wow. You can’t tell from here. The emotion poured into this performance is unreal.
Spot on, she never had to fake it, God blessed her and blesses her still, I pray one day I get to meet her in spirit and communicate how deep her music meant in my life and does. Only her.
Vivian..You have said so well what millions of us have tried...Thank you....
The audience was mesmerized
No smoke no mirrors or backup dancers or lasers just a microphone and live talent
When you're that talented, you don't need any gimmicks. Pure talent is all you need and Whitney surely had it.
One of the greatest performances of all time. God was showing off when he made this woman.
The best singer in the World... Whitney Houston..
Greatest

+michael mottlau
U R so Right!
+michael mottle At 3:20 you can see her motion to the band: C'mon boys, bring it!
She was out of this world!
+freedomm lol nah she was making sure the mic was cool enough to handle the fire she was about to bring lol
+jezzbcawz 😍
If you didn't know how great a singer she was, you missed an entire era in music, this lady could sing from the bottom of her soul.
Rhett Millsaps True
amen ....... out of this world
Her voice was an instrument of the most bombastic yet most delicate beauty
Why do people ask, "who is listening to this in 2020?" Just say, "I'll be listening to this for the rest of my natural life"
Truth.
Amen
🤗👌👌
That's todays generation. Not mine, and probably not yours too; Thankfully!! ✌
@@ekstertjj I can thankfully say, I am not in this present generation. 😉
The Greatest Female Vocalist of All-Time, Ladies & Gentlemen, Ms. Whitney Houston. Rest in Love, Queen.
Yesssssss no doubt about it.
@@uriyahbonafide4194 greatest voice that graced the earth
She is truly the greatest vocalist
Whitney number 1, she was amazing live, outsang Mariah, and she taught 5 generations how to sing. Then you have Celine who is also great live and snatches the second place for consistency, third is Mariah, who is amazing in studio, has the best technique, and was phenomenal during her prime.
This is the best vocal performance of all time
Beautiful song, beautiful performance.
Best voice in the history of the world.
Well. One of them that is known. Obviously other known ones are Mariah and MJ and many others. Many unfamous people too
She had a great pop voice, but there have been many, many better voices than hers in the classical music realm.
2019 but still loving this song😭😭....Whitney Houston Is Legend
I can't stop listening this song, this woman is really a legend
A melhor de todos os tempos.
Me too ❤️😭
Que vozeirao!inigualavel, concordo a melhor de todos os tempos

Nyoka Woitko true!
She is a gift from God amen
SHE IS,WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME.
WE DEARLY MISS YOU
And that ladies and gentlemen is how it's done.
I notice also she control her band
I never noticed that till you pointed it out! I thought her hand gestures were just part of her “feeling the music.” Even though it was probably both, she did an excellent job at controlling the band and telling them to quiet down at moments she knew her voice needed to be in the spotlight.
I totally agree!!!
Thank you so much cause you wrote the Truth, indisputable truth! God bless you!🥰
All night watching until my get baggy she is the best ever
I promise you NO other musical voice makes weep like Ms. Houston’s! How I miss her 😞😞😞😞

The quality of the microphone can't keep up with the Whitney's angel voice.

Yo desde Argentina
I saw her sing this live in 1987 and it was even more remarkable in person. This performance makes me tear up every time I watch this, and I watch it pretty regularly. Stunning.
I cant imagine!😍
You’re lucky!❤️
I watch it quite a bit myself I love Whitney R.I.P. NIP we miss you
I saw her live at the Greek Theater in CA in '86(it was my Freshman year of HS), you're absolutely right...it was life changing as a teenager. This and her singing "One Moment In Time" live at the Grammy's in a white dress are 2 of the best live performances I've ever seen in my life.
Amen
