When she sang it in Italy, at the festival of Sanremo in 1987, She got a standing ovation and the public asked to sing it again and she did it. What a voice!!
I grew up listening to this song, now 52 years old and listening to it is like going back in time... the colors the smell the warmth of a magical time... it's like trying to capture a fleeting shadow...
I’m 41 and it’s the same for me! I remember playing the tape in my boom box on the front porch at night during the summer…I was just a little girl but these live songs touched me deeply even then ♥️
The days when there is no autotune.. no effort on social media.. no annoying dancers at the background.. no celebrities trying to join the singing and outdo the artist.. no screaming from the audience.. but ONLY pure talent, pure soul and pure voice.💗
This is why the Italian "Festival di Sanremo" is a top-notch competition that all the World admires. The format is simple: the singer, the orchestra, and the public.
Yes, Whitney. Not Mariah^ stop bringing her into the fucking mix, not hating but bringing her into any Whitney conversation is uncalled for. And to be honest, getting old. Seriously.
Like how people were actually somewhat aware of what was going on around them and acknowledged each other, not just worshipping at their cell-phones like today? ;)
She gave her all in this live version, is better than the recorded one. Simply knocked it out of the park. There hasn't been a singer of such epic talent since WH. No gimmicks, risque outfits, just her incredible voice.
That what made her a legend. Her technical prowess match by her soul. Whitney was musically learned -- yet she always sang from the depths of her spirit That's what sets her apart from mere copycats.
Agreed. I saw Whitney live in concert and her voice was the most beautiful sound I ever heard. She could make her voice do this warm rich echo. Never heard another singer yet that could do it like Whitney. Beautiful lady gone too soon. 😢
I always cry when I see Whitney. She is so young here. Her beauty, her charisma and her voice are overwhelming. Seeing this recording makes me happy and sad at the same time because I know how her Life developed later ... But that doesn't change the fact that I thank God infinitely for giving this wonderful human being to this world. I hope with all my heart that she was happy in her life. R.I. P. Whitney.
Elizabeth 1989 I believe she was happy, she kept going, to bless us with her Godly talent. Tears are running down my cheeks. As a little boy, would get excited, if I would have heard a Whitney song on the radio or tv. Love from South Africa🇿🇦
I dont think she was necessarily happy. Everyone now believes money can buy happiness, it may be able to save from extreme unhappiness, being without a place to live or food and such but it cannot make some one really love you and other things of that nature. Why do alot of famous people turn to drugs? I feel its escapism...because they are not happy. Her and Bobby Brown that was far from happy.
The way she sings “ The smile that use to greet me brighten someone else’s day, she took your smile away” at 2:50 is the absolute best part of this performance! ❤️
She could not only DELIVER ..she would blown your heart straight out your chest . That's why she was booked to sing all over the world ,now in heaven .rip Queen Whitney
I was five when I saw this performance at my grandmothers house in her living room. I'm in tears now thinking about what we lost a from the world...I'm just feeling nostalgic but she shaped all of our lives.
I'm crying too right now. I look at her beauty and hear THAT VOICE!!! and I hate what I know is coming for her. Those damn demon drugs, it truly breaks my heart!!! She touched people like no other, just look at the audience!!! Oh Whitney, it is said the night before you passed you kept repeating you wanted to see your Jesus!! I know you finally got too, and i'll be singing up there with you one day. But even in Heaven I won't have her pipes!!! Lord she was special!!!
Why don't we write beautiful love songs like this anymore? I miss musical ballads that talk about being in love. When she sings them it makes you believe that it's worth taking the risk of being in love again.
Today’s singers besides like Beyoncé don’t have the range/emotiveness/technique to ballads. They require fioritura/coloratura on the legato passages(Mariah), Dynamic Control (Whitney) from start to finish, and stamina (Céline) to power through bridges/climaxes.
Thank you Cissy Houston. You gave us the greatest singer of all time and I am so blessed to have met her and seen her 8 times in concert in the mid 80's. Whitney performed twice at the NY State fair and each year I gave her roses when she was singing her opening song. These fan comments pretty much says it all. She truly is the eighth wonder of the world!!
Like wow You're a Winner for a lifetime because you saw her 😉 that was a opportunity of one moment in time and now I envy you because I was born 2007 so I was very young and very late to the world.
@@kyleroper5379 "Thanks, I talked to her and Robyn Crawford in Lake Placid at the hallway of The Holiday Inn the afternoon of her concert in 1985 when she started her 2nd US tour. My friend and I waited about a half hour in the narrow hallway after Ricky Miner told us she would be coming to the restaurant. She came around the corner and gave us a big smile. She was so tall, young and beautiful and we talked to them for seven minutes or so. She was so nice to us and signed her first album for me. It was surreal and we had been very nervous until she put us at ease .We went to her concert that night (1st row) and we were still on cloud nine from meeting and talking to her. We knew that she was destined to become the greatest female singer of all time. I am 77 years old now but will never forget that day. Peace!!
That voice, that face, those eyes, that smile, noone will ever reach the hights she did.gone too soon.Miss Whitney Houston may you be be singing with the angels now and forever, amen.
This melody is so melancholic, it makes me wanna cry everytime. I get goosebumps with her falsetto at the beginning. Her live performances were always better than the studio version, how is that possible right? They usually fix things in the studio. Whitney was really special.
The best female singer of all time. The one & only Whitney Houston. The most beautiful GOD given voice of all time. We miss you & your daughter Bobby Kriss. ❤️👑
This is what got me through the Army in 69 / 71 and I met my wife of 44 years and we wish it was being played for the younger generation. This is true music!☘🍀

Not only was it obvious that she was destined to become a great singer - she was so cute when she was younger. May she never be forgotten. RIP beautiful angel.
What a gift she had. She sang without inhibitions and always made an old song sound new again. There will always be a special place in my heart for Whit. What ever it was that she projected and radiated when she performed was everything that I someday wished and aspired to be. One of the greatest vocal performances of all time, of ALL TIME! Her head voice, belting, and overall vocal control were second to none from '85-'92 for sure!
I actually think that 1994 after she had Bobbi Kristina is the best her voice ever sounded in the 90s. She took her vocal prowess to another level on the bodyguard tour and interpreted her earlier work in ways that no other vocalist really has ever been able to eclipse in pop music. However, her best is 86-87. No one was fucking with her.

Best definition of a singer and not a screamer.
Sooooo true

Isn't that the truth! I don't mind a dancer etc but you are correct. There isn't much talent like this anymore.
What an astute observation. At the time , in days gone by, we didn’t realise just how lucky we were.
I miss her so much😭really
Why you’re so shady 🤡🥲

Man.. Whitney Houston has a lot of really beautiful songs.. It's so sad that she left this world too early.
I agree with you. It is so terribly tragic.

When you can smile and cry at the same time, you know what you’re feeling is real.. Her voice makes it easier to cope..
her beauty is unreal and her VOICE... she really was extraordinary in every possible way.

Hello
Well they do say if it not broken don't fix it ...... when she was born they broke the mold...,
Whenever I hear a Whitney Houston song, I think of the days when I was a little kid and what the world was like then.

The most beautiful songs performed came from Whitney. I remember her best, NOT her worst. Love D Ross’ reactions genuinely appreciating Whitney.
Not only for her richness in vocal ability/talent, but for her richness in emotional interpretations!

Charice is also really good at that as well. A "Note to God" comes to mind.
No autotune.
But when the song heats up..
she blown me away.
Wow. Nothing can be compared to her. TIMELESS
The only singer I know that has a beautiful tone in both high and low notes. Others can can hit high notes but the tone is usually not beautiful.
