In 1980s Naples, young Fabietto pursues his love for football as family tragedy strikes, shaping his uncertain but promising future as a filmmaker.
Now that's how a trailer should be made. I have no idea what this movie is about but I'm very intrigued and want to watch this to find out.
Looks like he's mourning the loss of his mom
Priscilla Jimenez Oh thanks for putting that thought in our brains. You should do that more often. Just make sure you dont explain your ideas.
@@eduardochavacano that was in my brain watching the trailer. There are a lot of context clues pointing to a dead mom
@@ihascupcakke8616 It is the director's biography, you just need to search his name to understand what the movie is about.
Hand of god = Maradona nothing else fit in that...
The film is based on the life, choices and emotions of Sorrentino (the director), who was orphaned of both parents when he was a boy.
His parents died from having breathed carbon monoxide released from a boiler and he was saved because at the last moment he had decided to go to the stadium to watch a football match in Naples where Diego Armando Maradaona played. He too could die.
When life leaves u behind so that u can tell ur story...
Why would you post spoilers, I mean, they specifically played around it in the movie to not literally include that parents die. Some people, just have to share the knowledge, which is good, but their place of choice to do so is not
@@marekswatowski3137 i havent read the book? or anything and its obvious that thr whole movie is him dealing with the loss of his parents so, doesnt seem too bad
That’s how karma works. It wasn’t the time and place for him to pass away like his parents and subconsciously he knew that. It’s chilling to know what if he had died with them?
@@marekswatowski3137 even the stones know the story of the life of sorrentino!
i love Italy oh my gosh the landscapes the aesthetic the architecture

It is just italy because there is a feeling to italy produced films. Like call me by your name. They all have this surreal, intricate human touch to their production.
Ikr ... that's exactly what I was thinking .. such a beautiful place !
if you want .. see Luca Guadagnino's movie of some years ago called IO SONO L'AMORE with Tilda Swinton talking in italian .... I think you like it
@@mariofuccio1168 I've seen only one of Luca's movies but i was very very impressed with that ...
So I'll check this one too, thanks :) it'll be great if it captures the beauty of Italy like how CMBYN did
Every Italian movie is tied to four cultural elements: a strong national and regional identity (from here the bilinguism of the movies, spoken in both italian and Neapolitan or Sicilian, Venetian, Lombard...), and the importance given to photography, which often is done in Italy's symbolical places, take the Roman cinema for example.
I am 37 and I still grieve the fact that I lost my mum when I was a baby. Thank you Paolo Sorrentino for telling this story. I hope I am able to channel my own fears like you one day.
My warmth to you dear stranger traveler.
@@twinklearora3110 yes,
The trailer alone is a masterpiece in itself. Can’t wait to see this when it drops on Netflix!
It's dropping in few hours!!
At long last, a REAL movie!
I need to drop a deuce
Lived in Naples between April 99 and August 2000 few months after my father passed away , a short period but that deeply changed me to my core up to this day , so many memories, that city is quite something else, the Euro tournament when Italy beat Netherlands the joy and celebration on the streets, and the following pain and anger after losing to France in sudden death ..the lungomare, trips to the island of Ischia, the upper city Vomero…it teached me to move forward with life and become the man that I am today.
This trailer seriously moved me , can’t wait to watch.

and soon a bigger celebration in that beautiful city

Just amazing. Again. And again.
How can we describe Sorrentino's art? Pure freedom. I love the liberty he takes of extending scenes "to death": the sea at the really beginning, minutes and minutes. His mother that cries after fighting with her husband, something really painful. The never-ending awkward moments on the boat with aunt Patrizia naked. Sorrentino just doesn't give a damn. We can tell that he really enjoys what he does.
I love his attention to sounds, the small senseless noises. I love the billion gems he makes the actors say, leaving you completely speechless. Just amazing. Thank you Paolo.
THANK YOU NETFLIX - MORE LIKE THIS! You could also have a classic movie series or great director series. I also think you should have an actual film channel/show that talks about what movies/shows you have as it will help people discover new things. It should be designed so we can pick foreign language films to hear about. This way we are directed towards excellent films or shows we might miss and not waste time on shows aimed at different audiences.
This is a great idea. There's so much potential for Netflix.
Must be seen on the big screen, with an audience, IMO.
Russian "Kinopoisk" has this kind of channel
What great ideas, Robert!!!! It’s often very hard to find these great films on streaming channels, even when they’re there, it feels like they’re hidden. It would be great to see retrospectives of the works of the great directors, like Sorrentino and also the great actors, like Toni Servillo, who I’m obsessed with! I wish I could whistle …
The Italians sure do know how to make a film. Je vous aime 💓 . Bisous de la France
Have you got a story to tell me?
YES
Then TELL ME
Even in sadness, remember there's still beauty in the world.
Will be watching it.
For ones who doesn't know, this movies is set in Napoli and it's speak in Napolitan dialect 'cause the protagonist are Napolitans; not all italians speak like this
Viva Napoli
Jesus, I almost cried watching the trailer.
In the trailer, the part where he says "I don't like reality anymore", really hit close to me and made me remember about when I as an only child, at 16 too just lost my father, I had this out of touch way of speaking for quite sometime. I know that I'm naturally a person who tends to daydream a lot but I guess since I lost my father, it's like I preferred drifting into my 'dream world' more. (lol I Don't know if what I said here made any sense, but I just felt I should let this thought out)
🤍
Nostalgic, joyful, profound, beautiful. This film broke my heart, it made me cry but with a smile 🥲
I also lost a parent when I was 16. Not having any siblings, my mother and me have been alone since then. I have always loved Sorrentino, he was my favourite director even when my father was still alive. After he died, though, I started to watch Sorrentino's films in a different way. I think I was finally able to understand them in a deeper level. I am twenty right now. I have been living with grief for years, and coping with it. This film means so much to me. I am grateful to Sorrentino for being able to turn his pain into a work of art, and for being able to openly face his anger. I hope that someday I will be as strong as he is.

Bro can you tell me what happened to Sorrentino because I'm from India and I don't know about him but why I don't know that I connected to this trailer
@@GG-sr7pi basically when he was 16 both of his parents died in an accident, due to a carbon monoxide leak in one of their houses. Sorrentino was supposed to be with them, but he managed to save himself thanks to his parents, who allowed him to watch a football match at the stadium, in which Maradona, who was one of Sorrentino's heroes, played. The film is called "The Hand of God" because this is one of Maradona's nicknames and because in Neapolitan we have a saying: when something tragic happens and you manage to come out of it unscathed, we say that God used His hand to save you.

@@sonofagreatsouthernlandI get the feeling 'Drive My Car' is gonna win, it has more buzz than this one, but it will certainly be nominated. no doubt about that
Drive My Car - which i haven't seen - has a lot of momentum, plus Almodovar's new will be there or about, as well. Since Sorrentino already won, they might skip him this time. Though i think it deserves all the accolades. A wonderful film

Looks intense. Italia... I love Italy. Mi manchi Italia. Can't wait to see this.
Ci manca a tutti!!
Thank you for the explanation. I am English and the "hand of God" incident with Maradona happened when I was 16 and so this film is set in my youth and Sorrentino is my age. Maradona scored a foul goal with his hand against England and it was counted as the referee didn't see it. When asked about it afterwards he said it was "the hand of God" admitting it was a foul. So this saying had a very different meaning in England, it means to cheat and win. I went to Italy in 1986 on holiday, the year this film is set and so it will be interesting to see it again in the time in the movie. I also lost both my parents but I was much older. It is something you never get over or move on from as it cuts the last cord with your youth.
I'm looking forward to this film now.
I hope you learn the real meaning of "The hand of God" someday
Bless You.
Energy is not created nor destroyed - your parents have never ‘left’ you …. they changed form …. ✨🙏✨
@@brankobogado6851 - I know what "hand of God" means in Italy, thanks to this film. That was part of the point of my comment. If you avoid a tragedy they say "the hand of God" intervened and prevented it. We do not say this in England. This film is called "the hand of God" as the young character avoided dying along with his parent as he was watching the football match in which Maradona scored with his hand. This is a true story, of Sorrentino the director, as a child who missed dying along with both his parents in a gas leak as he was watching Maradona play football in the "Hand of God" game. So the title is a play on "the hand of God" goal scored by Maradona which is seen in the film and also refers to his miraculous escape from death. If you Google "hand of God" the first thing that comes up is Maradona's goal.
@@AnyoneCanSee it is not a common saying in Italy, Italians don’t give a sht about the WC goal since it didn’t involve their team. The term Hand of God is known worldwide only for Maradona‘s goal, and the director is using it with a double meaning, as you have correctly stated.
@@AnyoneCanSee Maradona used the idiom "the hand of God" as its used in spanish to mean "luck or fate was on my side" but it is not a common saying, it was a genius statement .And that goal was follow by the goal of the century all made by the greatness of one man. Maradona saves napolitalian and argentines life in a way ( remember Falkland's war before the match) so it means some kind of revenge for Argentina. In some way, Maradona is a symbol to England too.
This looks so beautifully made and directed. Wow. Almost makes me wish Italian People were real.
