    Edited version.
I originally stated that the "nice weapon system" is a vehicle mounted mitraljøs. This is incorrect it is MITR3. A MITR3 is an MG3 mounted on a tripod.
An MG3 is the modern version of the German WW2 MG42. MG3 is a crew served GPMG that weighs in at 11,7 kg firing at 1500 rds/m and a muzzle velocity of 830 m/s. It has a quick change barrel (gunner) and an automatic only trigger - a good gunner can fire single rounds and hit targets at about 300m with that single round. It has (sadly) been phased out of the Army and is now only used in the Heimevernet (Home Guard - local defence units that specialise in infrastructure/force protection, intelligence and small unit operations in Norway).
In it's role as a mitraljøse the effective range of the weapon is extended. It also allows the weapon to be used in an indirect fire mode (this is technically demanding and requires training).

      @labhrainn 3 года назад +1

@@fr36r1k No. I did not. I said MITR3 could be used in that manner. MG3 is a GPMG and uses a bipod. When mounted on a tripod it is a mitraljøs (MITR). In this role it can be used to deliver indirect fire - eg firing over a hill. From the historical accounts of those on the receiving end it was both effective and terrifying. As far as I am aware the manuals describing how it is done are still collecting dust in the archives of forsvarsmuseet (Defence Museum) in the Akershus fortress.

"Luckily" for the Units we followed here, none of the guys we followed got harmed directly towards the end there, but several of theyr closest mates got hit badly, unfortunately. Very proud of them! Knowing that theese represent Telemark Battalion and not the "top of the crops" of Millitary, they surely fight like they were good old MJK/FSKs. Also does a brilliant job with the civilians. I know the feeling about "stretching" a "happy boy" just because he was the right age and was buildt a certain way might be considered provocative, counter productive. I know firsthand how its like to be thrown into a category you dont deserve to be put in,so not something i would encourage at all.....as it can backfire at a later point. If you get young peaceful civilians against you, elderly wise men and that village might follow. Theese civilians know nothing but war, even if most of them just want it all to end. So you have to be on high alert and watch every word you say,and action you do. Sadly we didnt get to listen in on theyr conversation....but that young man might have come across as a "aggressive" young man for all i know, thats why he got stretched abit. But with that said, civilians in countries like Afghanistan hates soldiers that comes from the rich western world. And Taliban and alikes know this,so they put in all this effort into brainwashing the civilian population. Getting them on your side,is truly the crucial "chess move" during war times.

The question asked regarding searching this young man is an important one (my experience is serving as an UN soldier within UNIFIL (South-Lebanon) in the mid 80's), and in my opinion the search of this young man is the right descission; you have the security aspect in a region basically controlled by the Taliban, and most likely the Taliban has people in the villiage, it shows that the soldiers do pay attention to the people around them when patroling inside villiages, and it does send a message that they are serious about the job they are sent to do as well as their own security. The young was a well physically well trained and in the age group of who one might be a Taliban fighter. Will the young man feel humiliated and angry about being stopped and searched? Likely yes, but he will also know that the soldiers are aware of the danger, aware that he might have been carrying a weapon etc. There is a huge difference in harrasment and security control.

Mostly counterproductive. But it also depends on the person requesting a search.
How you explain to the person/persones why you need to search is going to have a big impact. Also, never just pick out someone because he "looks" suspicious. That is when the person will loose respect and trust.
So i think it all depends. Not doing it, and it leads to an attack. Then that could make the Villagers loose the trust in you.

Everyone keeps asking for the next episode.
Just a thought, the next episode would be quite dark as you see in the last minutes of this one.
With the host himself and a lot of his audience being veterans themselves, i wouldn't press for it.
If nothing else, i wouldn't trust the internet to respond gracefully in all ways or pay the fallen the proper respects,
or understand those who came home that wished they died too, or instead.
Give'em a good nod and thanks, maybe that reality is best left with those who know it, and not any random playstation veteran.

We as a socitety sends these men down there. The stories are not ment to be kept only by the once who experienced it. We all need to see the ups and downs to be able to progress. If it causes more suffering than good we should stop deploying to foreign countries.
That being said, this youtuber doesn't owe us anything, and maybe theese dark parts 'triggers' him.
But to just leave it because others could be triggered or becsuse it shows the grim parts of war is not a good reason IMO.
I've seen this documentary before. It gets quite depredsing. The man in charge starts to wonder if any of it was worth it at all.

I think frisking is a bit different in a place with war compared to England and its police.
If the English had a history of walking around with weapons and bombs, planting IEDs in the streets I think the English population would be more okay with getting frisked.
