If I can say this. Commander Rune Solberg is a fantastic commander. Level headed, tactically proficient, and caring for his troops. While being dealt a impossible hand he kept his honor clean and bears the scares of his losses with true emotions. You sir are a credit to your nation and I wish you and yours the best.

***** I agree, He has more patience then I would. Afghanistan has been given billions to try and set up a government, then you bitch and complain that nothing is being done! The western nations have been trying to help you since late 2001! Then you ask for more, more! Where is the accountability! Of where these resources are going? Into your off shore bank accounts? I can see his frustration just like other ISAF forces! I have had friends that have served from the US Army, US Marines and US Air Force. Then other NATO countries that have sent troops to try and help you get back on your feet. I feel that Afghanistan is taking advantage of our kindness.

Seen during the Winter 2022, now we know the end of the whole story, the 6 episodes of this documentary are a table without concession of the reality induced by the political project led in Afghanistan by the Western Alliance. Though, the aim of the documentary was not to criticise. The opinion is given by Rune Solberg himself, the commander of PRT15, not by an external narrator. Rune Solberg is impressive. Professional in all his military responsibilities, he is also a sensitive and reflexive person, assessing with a lucid eye the situation which he can't improve with the means he received. First, that's a wonderful portrait of a man under an immense pressure from the events unfolding against his will.

So many of the Afghan leaders throughout this show just shows with all of their body language that they have no respect at all for Solberg, or even the international forces in general. You cannot achieve anything with a partner that is obviously views you as filth.
Cut those people out and reach out to someone else to meet your objective. If that somehow cannot be done, then discard the objective. Either way, you'll waste less time.

i wonder whether it would be possible to have the FN united behind a rather massive and brutal undertaking as such. if there was a larger consensus as such, it might possibly have a bit more political sway.. idk.
i would believe it might be hard if you do not impose a semi-colonialist tactic into this stuff.. pick the correct people.. civil wars on end.. idk..
where do you find the people? how to make them motivated? rich old men in power.. i would assume there would be alot of opportunists, having not too different views from the taliban.
i have no slightest clue how creating a humanitarian and democratic state as such would be possible. if you have any ideas i would surely be entertained to listen. just some random thoughts, dont mind me. :)

We also got a Veteran Administration, which still is in its infancy.Veterans themselves, have long since recognized the need for self-help,and social events are important. The most important is the"Buddy-line",where veterans can call a nation-wide number, and talk to other veterans about their problems,at a grass-root level.SIOPS is an organisation to promote the rights of soldiers wounded in duty, both physically and mentally. There is still much work to be done.

It is just during the last decade, that the politians have realized that many veterans have post-service problems, like PTSS.It took some years before the politicians acknowlegded we are at war in Afghanistan, since war is a diplomatic state between nations.Eventually, medals were re-instituded,and Crosses-of-war have been issued, one post-mortem.Veteran-organisations,like NVIO,have fought hard to earn recognition for veterans and serving soldiers. It was only last year the we got our own veterans-day

This was great. It is interesting to see how training and equipment have improved, and also how the political recognition has grownI served in UNIFIL XXIII in 1989,and we only had three weeks of training before we went to Lebanon. On return, the custom-school had their final exam on us,upon arrival.Next day we had a medical check-up,where the doctor asked:"Do you feel okay? -Good",or "That will pass in a few weeks time....".We got a pat on the shoulder,an air-ticket,and that was that....

What I could understand from this video is that they are not willing to do what they say and whatever Norwegians are saying, they are accepting it without actually acting on it. The latest, has been the foundation of Veteran Companies, where veterans are issued with uniforms, but no weapons. They are trained in drill and parade, and participate in a lot of actions. Most typicly, these companies function as flag-bearers at memorials and remembrance-services,veteran's funerals, etc.Another function,is as security-guards at arrangements, like Oslo Military Tattoo,Tall Ship Race in Stavanger 2011,concerts etc.So far, there are eight Veteran Companies in Norway.Hopefully more to come.

How frustrating it must be for people like Rune Solberg to be in such a situation. It seems like he cares more than all the Afghan leaders combined. They just do not care it seems. To them it's just about siphoning off resources meant for the people as was very clear when Solberg said he would press the fuel situation all the way to Kabul. Suddenly the problem was magically fixed in 1 second. Why are we wasting lives and resources on this? What's the point? Time to let them build their own country. On their own.

@@guevaraaraveug9191 Indeed it was and is. However, it has been clearly stated the importance of "hearts and minds". To think you can force a nation into a certain set of government is foolish. To think you can bomb a country into submission is even more foolish, bordering on retarded. History tells us this. Just as history tells us no foreign power has ever succeeded in breaking the Afghans. There is no good reason for the west to waste any more lives or resources on this folly.

These series made me understand better how lack of education and leadership often is the root of most problems in a country..
The Afghan commanders and the way they spoke about things made me realize they thought a gift from the heavens would solve everything without actually having to do anything themselves.
    I don't get it.
Ignorance is the root to ALL evil, mark my words.

Great documentary,i've watched many and my opinion is that the only way to build up the country is by making it financially more viable like that less people would join the insurgency and the ANA and ANP could fund themselves instead of being dependant on ISAF forces. At this rate i really don't see a bright future for the afghans when ISAF leaves because of how lazy, corrupt, and unprofessional the ANA/ANP are.I have massive respect for people like the commander, really an inspiration.

Top level corruption ruined that country. Money should have been given ground up, directly to local leaders, NGOs, even individuals. Instead of the completely rotten national and regional governments. So obvious nothing good could have come out of this situation when as the local leader says, nothing was done for 5-6 years when the Taliban were weak. So obviously the people then turn to the taliban.
All people here for years expressing "solidarity" or "admiration" to the "brave Norwegians". Maybe they were brave, many are surely adventurous. Some really tried to do good like the commander here. But they all fought and died in vain and our tax money and Afghan time and lives were wasted for nothing.

I stand from far off and easily see a land of very few resources inhabited by endless generations of mutual scorn. It is confounding to think that mindset will suddenly change with some recent western encouragement. After 2,000 years of living there, mud brick homes and a brine well that barely works are testimony to contemporary Afghani leadership.
And somehow the West thinks there will be cooperation? Immediate embrace? Astounding fools sipping imported coffee from fine china while musing the scuff mark on their expensive shoes. Somehow the ancient reality of Afghanistan escapes the dignified schoolboy elite.
    Let them be.
They will harvest their meager grains with a dull scythe. It is their way.
