Great list. 10 of your top 20 are on my top 20 list of that decade, 9 I haven’t seen, and only Haxan falls slightly behind. Of the more famous ones of the decade, I’d include, A Man With a Camera, by Vertov, The Idoe Clas, by Chaplin and Greed, by Von Storheim. You have become a reference to me. Congrats
A few of my favorites that didn't make the list: Visages d'Enfants, or Faces of Children (1925) Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler (1922) Faust (1926 -- in which Emil Jannings plays a character as loathsome as he was in real life) Destiny, or Der Mude Tod (1921) He Who Gets Slapped (1924) Greed (1924)
My 20 for the 1920s 1. Sherlock Junior 2. The Passion of Joan of Arc 3. The Crowd 4. Battleship Potemkin 5. The General 6. Greed 7. Our Hospitality 8. Sunrise 9. The Navigator 10. Man with A Movie Camera 11. Metropolis 12. The Gold Rush 13. Napoleon 14. Haxan 15. Un Chien Andalou 16. Nanook of The North 17. Nosferatu 18. Pandora's Box 19. The Last Laugh 20. The Big Parade
Very good list, but I missed The Passion of Joan of Arc, Faust, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, The Phantom of the Opera, The Last Laugh (Der Letze Mann), and Man With a Movie Camera. Where to fit them in though would be a problem, but each is a really great piece of film-making. The twenties were very good and so adventurous in their film-making, with lots of techniques tried for the first time. Oh, and I'd have Pandora's Box as the best 20s film (even over my favourites Sunrise and Metropolis) because of Louise Brook's acting, so modern in its essence.
Amazing video! I'm still in the 1910's on my quest to watch a movie from every year, so I haven't seen many films from the 1920's yet, but an underrated one would be A Page of Madness from 1926. Check it out if you haven't seen it. BTW, I know this is the wrong video to ask this, but do you have any suggestions for films from 1915? I ask because I rather not sit through a certain three hour long hate film right now.
@@1-2many No problem, mate. I'll probably watch it eventually for research, but I guess I could always just watch The Cheat or a Chaplin movie and Les Vampires always exist, even if parts of it were made in 1916.
If there could be a remake of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, I think Danny DeVito could be perfect as The Doctor Caligari himself (the Doctor Caligari could have the same face as The Penguin from Batman Returns since Danny DeVito played The Penguin himself in Batman Returns). While Johnny Depp could play Cesare the somnambulist who is hypnotized by the Doctor Caligari (Cesare could have the same face as Edward Scissorhands from the movie of the same name since Johnny Depp played Edward Scissorhands himself in the movie of the same name). So this remake of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari could be directed by me and Tim Burton because sometimes, Danny DeVito and Johnny Depp work with Tim Burton himself.
My top 20 - 1. Gold Rush. 2. The Passion of Joan of Arc. 3. Wings. 4. The General. 5. The Kid. 6. The Lodger. 7. Dr. Caligari. 8. Faust. 9. Metropolis. 10. Nosferatu. 11. Sherlock Jr. 12. Seven Chances. 13. The Cameraman. 14. Steamboat Bill Jr. 15. Strike. 16. Safety Last. 17. The Last Laugh. 18. Pandora’s Box. 19. Sunrise. 20. Storm Over Asia. Where can I stream Napoleon?
Don't you think that Metropolis diserves a remake ? If nobody does a Metropolis remake, I'm gonna do it. It could be a Tim Burton-like remake. I mean it could be filmed the same way as Tim Burton. This remake could be distribued by Warner Bros and produced by New Line Cinema. And it could happen in the year 2251 because in 2026, the world will not look like in the original movie directed by Fritz Lang. (Note : I've just seen on the french Wikipedia page that Metropolis takes place in 2026)

Great list! You are the most underrated creator on the platform.
Cheers! Thanks a lot.
Great list! The Lost World (1925) would be in my list in the top 5.
Cheers! I can't believe I didn't watch that!
It's a great one! And among the earliest major special effects movies featuring stop motion animation by Willis O'Brien.
And it is on RUclips remastered!
I am currently watching a lot of these ''older'' movies and I just stumbled on your YT channel. Subscribed great video!
Great list.

Thanks! I'll check out A Page of Madness. For 1915, I'm not a fan, but Birth of a Nation is an incredibly well made film .
@@1-2many Well, that was the movie I was referring to. But thanks anyway.
@@calebrands4912 Of course it was! Sorry misread. Yeah. It's not a film you want as your favourite of a year!

Nice list. Have you seen The Phantom Carriage, The Passion of Joan of Arc and Greed?
Yeah. Three very noticeable absences on the list. I like all three, especially The Phantom Carriage. Victor Sjöström is a genius.
@@1-2many Haha yes, thats why I asked. All three would make my top 5. Yeah Sjostrom is so underrated.

I wouldn't watch number 9 and number 7, but all the others I have seen and like. My favorite being "Sunrise". Great list.
Two of my 13 all time favorite films are Dr. Mabuse the Gambler and Sunrise
My top 20 - 1. Gold Rush. 2. The Passion of Joan of Arc. 3. Wings. 4. The General. 5. The Kid. 6. The Lodger. 7. Dr. Caligari. 8. Faust. 9. Metropolis. 10. Nosferatu. 11. Sherlock Jr. 12. no stroheim tho .... ;-; "the wedding march" (1928) is def my fave film of the 20s and easily in my top 5 faves ever!
There will be a remake of Nosferatu coming out this year and I think Danny DeVito could have been perfect as Knock the estate agent 😢

+ The Navigator and La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc...good list otherwise
