  • Welcome one and all to the "Is It Better" series, comparing (one by one) all the One D&D changed to their 2014 counterparts!
    This time we have the big man himself, the armoured knights, lone warrior, longsword swinging, weapon proficient, battle superiority dice having lean mean killing machine; the fighter.

    I don't know why they didn't just make Indomitable a player version of Legendary Resistance, where once a day you just choose to succeed on a saving throw you failed. In practice, that's basically what it does, so why not just save the word count?

    • @justhero
      @justhero  25 дней назад +5

      So we know they're not domitable! But yeah, that's a way way simpler understanding of it.

    The epic boons are designed for dms to award them after you gain a certain amount of xp after you have reached level 20. For those who wish to continue the campaign post lvl 20. Jeremy Crawford went into it a little in one of the class videos. Think of them as epic levels lite from 3.5e.

    Does an mma fighter need to rest to change between muay thai and jujitsu? Makes no sense from an immersion perspective

    My bro ranger really got shafted bad
    All it needed was some flat or stacking tag damage, hunters mark to be removed, and maybe hide, disengage and search as bonus action. Stop making me concentrate for 3 dpr or miss out on half my class features...

    • @justhero
      @justhero  26 дней назад +2

      Haven't looked into it yet, but heard whispers.
      And man. I am EXCITED to dig into that cuz they really just didn't give a single monkey about the ranger.

      @justhero that straight up said 1d6 tag damage stacking with other spells would be broken on a class that gets extra attack and no other damage features 💀

    What is your opinion on Paladin smites becoming a spell? I personally loathe it, as my favorite (and ongoing) character is a paladin barbarian multiclass that can no longer function as he once could.

    • @justhero
      @justhero  26 дней назад +4

      PAUSE. I was looking into it as a case by case basis as I made the videos, so I've kept blind for the most part.
      FYM THEY TURNED SMITES INTO A SPELL?? WHY?! Okay, I'm imagining they traded it off with at the very least some increase in spell slots but I'll need to actually dig in further for a final conclusion.
      For now seems like a pointless simplification. It's not smite was rocket science before.

      @@justhero From what I can tell this is the gist of what they did to smite:
      - Made it a Bonus Action
      - Is a spell, not a feature. The feature simply lets you have the smite spell always prepared.
      - Can use any spell slot, not limited to just 5th level now.
      - Can still be used after you hit something, assuming you haven't used a bonus action.
      - IIRC it has reduced damage.
      - Can be used with unarmed strikes.

      @@justherothey empowered mounts and added find steed empowered as class feature
      So maybe to balance out steed's dmg

      And it being a bonus action means that if you want to smite then that’s *all* you’re doing on your turn. They made paladin so much more boring than it was before.

    • @Axel-zc6xj
      @Axel-zc6xj 23 дня назад +1

      @@josciety5579 I can agree to smite needing a nerf. Sorcadins were very well known for trivializing encounters through sheer nova damage.
      - Once per turn? Sure, I can understand.
      - Reduce damage? Again, sure, I can understand.
      - Bonus action? Going a little far, but understandable in regards to 'smite needing nerf'. Making it once per turn is better.
      - Making smite a spell? No. This ruins too many things and makes it susceptible to all issues related to spells. It's not a paladin feature anymore! It can now be counterspelled!!

    Idk why they didn't just give all classes spell slots and make a combat maneuvers list sort of like spells. That way all the martial classes can do cool shit and have varied options similar to spellcasters that scale with level/spell slot level.

    • @justhero
      @justhero  23 дня назад +1

      They did it for Smite on Paladins but for some reason decided they would only do it for that one class. A tiny bit inconsistent. Your way would definitely simplify the process.

    • @KingFourth
      @KingFourth 23 дня назад +1

      @@justhero precisely like smite! Just give the battlemaster's combat maneuvers to the base martial classes that cost spell slots. Could even have the effect or damage scale up with slot levels.

    • @nathanreiter6908
      @nathanreiter6908 23 дня назад +3

      I would call them “Action” slots. But yes they get used, earned, and spent like a spell lot for Wizards. Agree with your take.

    • @KingFourth
      @KingFourth 23 дня назад +1

      @@nathanreiter6908 so I have considered naming or even making a whole new mechanic to replace the spell slots. The issue is, spell slots just work for my proposed system. There's no sense in complicating things further. This works out for subclasses that grant martials spell slots, you just increase the spread of slots gained per level to compensate for having both spells and maneuvers.
      Think like FP in Elden ring, cast spells or use weapon arts and they expend FP. Just simplifies the system. Which aligns with 5e's simplified form, compared to earlier editions.

      I appreciate that you enjoy the concept though!
      One of my playgroups have been working through it a little, and plan on testing it out in the near future.
