It's one of the most important skills any adult can teach a child.

I can understand Scout's frustration with school...my parents read to me every night...and eventually as a third grader...I was reading at a high school level...and was bored with the reading assignments in school...and placed in a summer education program because they thought I was behind...and one of the instructors said...he isn't behind...he's really bored.

Atticus wasn't a "hero", per se. Afterall, he couldn't save Tom, although we know he was innocent of those charges (Atticus did save Tom from the lynch mob at the jail, but I think Scout had much to do with that). Atticus wasn't even there to save his kids from a drunken Bob Ewell...Boo handled that. Atticus was a man of integrity who knew that racial injustice & hate needed to be challenged from someone of his stature, especially for those to whom it was directed at. Soneine like Trump wouldn't see what most of us saw & respected in thr charachter, bcuz Trump lives in a selfish, "me" world...one without empathy & charachter. More like like the Ewells. And he's about as dumb. Atticus did kill a rabid dog though. That's heroic 👍

He didn't "turn into" anything. It wasn't a follow up thankfully, neither being seen as a prequel nor a sequel. Some bookstores actually offered refunds owing to complaints of misrepresentation of the book and what it purported to be. There are many sources out there to disprove the "sequel" idea and show that it was a rough draft of what became TKAM and was only published after Harper Lee became too ill to really keep control of her life or estate, as well as the death of her sister and caregiver having happened only a short time before. It was originally submitted, rejected and thought lost. To most, it's just another example of the vile nature of what our society has become in that it cannot suffer ANYONE to be morally upright or just and has to tear them down, no matter what.
