The US Air Force (USAF) is to stand up the 495th ‘Valkyries’ Squadron as its first overseas unit to operate the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).The 48th Fighter Wing at Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath in the UK made the announcement on 16 February, noting that the new name was selected from a poll taken in December 2020. The 495th Squadron has also been given the motto ‘Mala Ipsa Nova’, Latin for ‘Bad News Itself’. The first F-35As are set to arrive at RAF Lakenheath towards the end of 2021. A second squadron at the base will be announced in due course.

It's still too bad the F-16 cleans its clock and combat training. Beautiful airplane though and I'm glad it's stealthy but it's not as agile as the F-16! 😲👍

I’m today’s war zone dog fighting is rare. Beyond visual range is more important. The f-16 would be good after air superiority is likely established but the upgraded F-15 and F-18 will get tech that allows the f-35 share real time data with those air frame and will likely accompany the F-35 into the battle field s
