    Lim is fantastic. Breathing the essence of the Classical period, despite the less than accommodating conductor.

    Lim is wonderful. The conductor is awkward and seems to letting music control her instead of the opposite.

    Just curious, is this the first time that Gershwin's Piano Concerto has been performed at the finals of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition? Don't remember it ever being on their list of concertos. Well done, Clayton Stephenson, for doing a really fine job!

    Am no pianist but I think Shmukler didn't follow orchestra's tempo and slowed it down too much... He kinda killed the piece at the very beginning.

    Ilya has opened the door a little. So brilliant in Stravinsky and Prokofiev he was tight here. His biggest asset is his large Romantic sound. I can imagine someone walking through that door and winning.

      @raffigorski6850 2 года назад +8

      To be blunt, Ilya was so off that I'm wondering if he just gave up. I've heard 2nd year conservatory students play the Rach3 better than what he did here.

    The conductor used a lot of wasted motion. She conducted notes instead of phrases. In the Rachmaninov, the pianist seemed to be pulling the orchestra along. It is a difficult work, but the orchestra lacked precision and definition and should have listened to the pianist more and followed his subtleties.

    • @Karlinberlin1
      @Karlinberlin1 2 года назад +2

      In the Gershwin she had to keep quieting the brass. Maybe not such a cooperative atmosphere between orchestra and conductor.

      Compare to the ages of the two and imagine the skill of age 18 of a Horowitz if he could make it at 18 as much as YunChan Lim has done it. That's a worthless comparison.
