The following year she portrayed Anne Sullivan in the original Broadway production of The Miracle Worker, winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. Annie Bancroft was one of the most wondrous human beings who ever existed, a bawdy but ethereal presence who captivated everyone who encountered her, most especially her extraordinary husband.
Interesting... especially as it's mathematically and historically impossible for you to know even one billionth of all the people that ever existed.
The relationship between her and Mel Brooks was great to see and watch.
@@jimnewcombe7584Not impossible to recount all the people one encounters in one’s own life experience is the assumed meaning…
@@lauralutz4538 I'd say it is impossible to know truly even the closest people we encounter, let alone the cosmos which is an individual, and presumably "knowing them" depends upon them speaking, because it's speech which permits psychological revelation. But then we can encounter someone through written language, and clearly encountering Anne Bancroft is a raindrop in a river compared with Shakespeare, or William Blake, or Emily Dickinson.
@@jimnewcombe7584 even that we're connecting thru a random comment is a statistical miracle
I love that she devoted herself to raising her child, but was honest in conveying it wasn’t always easy.
I was, i am and i always will be in awe of Anne Bancroft. She is one of the greatest and most underrated actresses that ever lived. A woman so gracious, such class...
Some people should never die.
Seems "underrated" is a new favorite word whether true or NOT about some noteworthies nowadays. There are so many accurate, true, interesting, informative things to say about others that are relevant with some kind of meaning.
One of the greats! A beautiful human being inside & out. We will never see your likes again!!!
I first saw her in "The Miracle Worker," and have been enthralled ever since. I must have watched "The Graduate" a hundred times, just to see her and fall in love all over again. She was a National Treasure.
Funny they both mention how accessible older films and interviews are with tapes and such. Here I am in 2024 watching on RUclips. Just watched The Graduate for the first time a few nights ago. She certainly lives on through her work. She left a mark on the world. ❤
Happy Happy 90th Birthday Anne Bancroft! You are so very missed! What a terrific actress you were! You never gave a bad performance. Thank you for all the films you left behind.
I think, what the great Anne Bancroft is saying is that the journey to finding that personal peace can eventually becomes the journey itself. She' was such an amazing lady. God Bless her.
The Wonderful Anna Maria Louisa Italiano. Loved her.❤😊
Her acting in Great Expectations is beyond Oscars require!!! I love her acting in that
Anne Bancroft (Annie as I affectionately call her) absolutely has my heart! I adore her and I adore this interview. The reason I love her so much is because she was strong, bawdy, gentle, compassionate, and tender. She wasn't like the ditzy Marilyn Monroe types (don't get me wrong I love MM) but she had gumption and grit, and she was gentle. There's something special about Anne Bancroft. Miss you, Annie! Thank you for leaving us with so much beautiful work.
I adored Anne Bancroft since her earliest roles. She was a star from the get go. My favorite still is The Miracle Worker. She worked miracles in everything she did.
She is just fantastic! How hard must it have been for Mel to outlive this woman by 18 years (so far).
Fantastic actress. She was brilliant as Mrs Robinson. She also acted the part as a society sociallite in Elephant Man who came to John Merricks house to applaud him for his love of literature.A great actress and great memories of her on film.
she also seemed to be aware that she would always be beautiful at every stage of her life and aged gracefully. one of my first hollywood crushes.
During my 1st visit to Los Angeles, we left a restaurant and we were standing on her Hollywood Star! I told my friends of her brilliant performances 💐💝🎬
Pt. III: When she said how much men liked the seduction aspect of The Graduate, it evoked spontaneous laughter from both of them. But no other actress in the world could have performed it with the brilliance of Bancroft. Trust me, NO ONE.
How much I love her, not only a Great actress, she was a sort of living heart
@@rebeccassweetmusic4632 Can you provide a timestamp for when she speaks about it?
Hard to believe she passed away only 5 years later, in 2005. A true, consumate actress, she was!
Hey 👋
Her best quote ever on her husband
“He’s the life and soul of the party and a pain in the ass to me …” 😂👌
She deserved to be a 2 time Oscar winner & she should’ve been.
Hey 👋
This is a quality person .
One of America’s foremost dramatic (and comedic) actresses. Gone way too soon. My father was in the same class in high school - in the Bronx. Her real name was Anna Italiano.
Hey 👋
It just shows how great an actress she was, that she could go from a Italian family in the Bronx to playing English Aristocracy (and people thought she was English.)What a classy Bronx Lady.
I've been a fan of Anne Bancroft's since 1987 when she starred in '84 Charing Cross Road' opposite of Anthony Hopkins. She was gone MUCH to soon! RIP Anne.
She and Mel must have had a home filled with wonderful conversation, loads of laughs, great friendship and abiding love. How blessed they were. Today I saw the hilarious Jiminy Glick (Martin Short) interview with Mel Brooks. Watch it when you need to laugh. When you consider Anne in “The Miracle Worker” and “The Graduate” - two such vastly different roles - you can’t help but be in awe of her talent. RIP.
Anne Bancroft is such a beautiful and confident women, its sad that she passed away in 2005 tho if she was still alive she would been the celebrities with a good heart for the other different people in the world
This is my favorite part when she mentioned about Whole Foods

Simply the best. An incandescent talent taken much too soon..
Anne was one of the most UNDERRATED actresses of all-time. She had it all, just don't understand. Why she didn't control the acting community is a very huge question. Maybe, she needed better representation. Very sophisticated and highly intelligent woman. Could play just about any role. Bravo, Annie, RIP, and thanks for all the great memories in your career.
She was so beautiful when she was young
Brilliant actress! My favorites, "The Turning Point", "The Graduate" and "Fatso" ! Her range is amazing ! Thanks for all the great gears of entertainment ! 💙👍
Yesss my favorite of hers is the turning point
Total class! She was so talented, so committed to her husband and son. Taken way too soon.
What’s a woman. A brilliant actor and so natural in this interview.x
She's an incredibly talented actress, especially in The Miracle Worker and The Elephant Man.
And as the OCD overly solicitous middleaged mother to Sissy Spacek's pre-suicidally overly dutiful character in the film Goodnight, Mother.
Miracle worker is truly a miracle. Her Patty Duke dinner scene is one of the best scenes in cinema history. It's shame people only talk about Joan Crawford and Bette Davis and the fued.
What delightful flow of a mutual respect of conversation. 👏
Anne Bancroft was such a gracious woman and a marvelous actor. Never more apparent than here in this interview. She turns his insipid impertinent banal questions and all his ridiculously nasty comments into endearing sincerity.
"Will you stop putting words in my mouth!" What every guest wants to say to "Cha-lee". lol Miss him. Thanks.
Charlie Rose was probably the most overrated interviewer - here Anne Bancroft generously and goodnaturedly indulges his ego whilst pullng him up for his shortcomings. Sheer magic.
👏 BRAV-OOOOO, The BRILLIANT
💐 ANNE BANCROFT 💐 👏
Just saw her in one of the all-time great examples of film noir, "Nightfall" (1957), also starring Aldo Ray and directed by Jacques Tourneur. She was perfect (and stunningly beautiful) as the femme fatale.
Hey 👋
God bless you. A great woman x
She's my favorite! Just extraordinary! I like all her films. Especially The Pumpkineater! You just can't take your eyes if her in that movie.
Helene Hanff in “84 Crossing Road “ with Anthony Hopkins is UNFORGETTABLE!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love hearing that voice so striking and husky. I love. 👌🏻 Brilliant Actress.
🌹🌹🌹 Eternal Memories 🌹🌹🌹
OMG... I just learned that she didn't do the love scenes in The Graduate. It was just movie magic!!
This interview is priceless! She is so full of life and energy, and her ebullience shines! From her truly powerful and virtuosic performance in "The Miracle Worker" thankfully also captured on film, garnering her Oscar win to the aging seductress of Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate", she remains one Theatre and Film's most cherished actresses! And this interview shows just how she accomplished it -- with the love of her acting profession, her tremendously hard work, her terrific sense of humor (NO surprise whatsoever that the love of her life was Mel Brooks), and her thoroughly charming personality. OH -- just wish we could have seen a final chapter in her life (after she died too young!) -- she'd have been the perfect spokesperson for us old-timers!!! Thankfully her work will love on...forever!
Anne Bancroft not just a well known actress a lovely humna being~ my beloved homeroom teacher "Coach Petrino" was Cousins to Annie. To hearing of old school kids to adults now on Fire Island, where I too spent many Summers, Anne & Mel shared there time~ so many stories. Bless Anne B in Spirit Beloved ❤🕊

She will always be Mrs. Robinson I just love that movie and I love her. May she R.I.P.
Yes she played Mrs Robinson and countless other less popular great role on stage and screen.
She played her so cool, great actress and stunning.
Hey 👋
@@gordygibson8776 hey 👋
Beautiful, such a beautiful human being 🫶🏽🤗
What a beautiful lady .
Real classy
I absolutely adored ann Bancroft as an actress... But this interview is so frenetic... whether she realized it or not, she was conflicted in the interview .. all over the place.
One of the most beautiful women, inside and out ever to come along. Don't make'm like that no more.
Hey 👋
So beautiful in so many ways...
Oh, how I miss her!!!
Ladys and gentleman the original femme fatale, miss Anne Bancroft
Hey 👋
If the English dictionary could redefine 'Woman,' it would be Anne Bancroft
She was half Italian...She played the part of Maria Maddalena in Zeffirelli's movie about Jesus
I admire Anne bancroft ❤
This interview is so funny.
“I didn’t say that!”
I think he had a crush on her.
Hey 👋
I miss Anne & Charlie
Precious woman
Classy, funny, smart, beautiful, the best. 💙🌈
Fabulous actress
Great interview - Mel was probably devastated when she passed away
She's such great actress 👏
Anne caused a major controversy at the Oscar’s when she kissed Sidney Poitier on the cheek after handing him his Oscar for best actor. That historic moment caused more controversy than celebration. Sidney and Anne’s moment of embrace offended so many people who persecuted them by complaining to the academy and the studios. As well, Anne’s genuine reaction of excitement and happiness was so offensive that she received death threats. Whenever I heard about such things being so controversial I would say “I can’t believe” that happened. But given our past and the way things are currently going I stopped believing that such things could happen.
The Best.
So beautiful…. Love her👏🏿💯❤️🙏🏿
Ann ~~ beautiful and brilliant ~~~ thanks 🙏 for your entertainment!! 🌟🌍🌟
Here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Beautiful woman at 69 years of age!
Classic beauty
Charlie Rose: “It is said-and you can correct me if this is a wrong assumption-that you and Mr. Brooks have one of the great relationships.”
Anne Bancroft: “Oh, I can’t wait to get home and tell him.”
Genius!
Little Annie was a doll. Now gone to Glory.
Anne Bancroft as Mary of Magdalene .... Her facial features reminds me of Marian Seldes
Anne was a Great Actress.
A PRO. RIP
Chick was talented and really beautiful.
"State of mind of peace" 😇
Charlie wasn't "putting words in her mouth," he was adding his own thoughts.
What an enchanting lady
The way she speak pretty much like a politician
If speaking thoughtfully and truthfully and intelligently is like a politician the so be it. What are you trying to say?
Modesty.. a virtue. More like Anne please..
I love you Anne.
A very very beautiful lady. Anne Bancroft
"Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me." ...We can only wish!
Read the last page (before the back cover) of World War Z.
It says four simple words: “I love you, Mom.”
Gorgeous
Beautiful mouth...attractive like nobody...the real paisana
Her voice is so silky.
Anne is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen , with a wonderful personality. Anne is an effortlessly natural actress , her husband is a very lucky man.
Yes the most beautiful woman in the world. I can’t take my eyes off her!
She’s lovely ❤
Love Her
Yeah, I love what she is like !
She is so attractive I thought it was rude of him to say ageing ballerina
That was the role that she played and not her...
The movie was "The Turning Point"...
Mrs. Robison was an artist -
Mel Brooks was in awe of her till he saw he could make her laugh.
Mrs Robinson. Beautifull.
i absolutely was in love with her! a true professional! miss her dearly! so beautiful!
Fun Fact : she almost played Chris Macneil for The Exorcist ...
