Fallout 2 Marcus' character as shown in dialogue

  • A demonstration of Fallout 2's Marcus' character as shown within dialogue. In the context of Fallout 3, Marcus was 'dipped' with a strain of FEV that was peculiar to the west coast, NOT the one used in Washington, DC. Marcus is intelligent, articulate, speaks easily and fluidly (without the hesistation and shouting tone of the Fallout 3 DC super mutants) and has depth. My understanding is that the west coast type FEV did not cause a decrease of intelligence or an increase in body size as the mutant aged, which is different from the FEV type in Washington DC that is shown in Fallout 3. Marcus was voiced by Michael Dorn and I love the job he did.

Amazing how developed his character went from 2 to new vegas. He became wise, a great leader trying to help other super mutants seek peace and came to realized while the master's intentions were noble it didn't end well. I bet Ulysses would see Marcus as a potential nation builder.

Edit: Correction this is referring to Super mutants created by the Enclave. Still, the master makes mention in Fallout 1 that super mutants often come out stupid due to the radiation levels. This is why he wants Vault 13, because there is enough Vault Dwellers there for a proper super mutant army. Every "Wasteland Mutant" enemy in Fallout 1 is a failed intelligent super mutant created from the master trying to FEV the average wastelander. There are real world examples of this (Stalinism, colonialism), and oftentimes these people are genuinely good people who help their communities. Gives it all complexity. Marcus still believes in the Master’s vision, and it’s interesting to hear his side of things. Gosh what a great game, new Vegas did him justice too.

HBomberguy talked about it in his Fallout 3 video-how all of the reviews for the game when it came out had pictures of the player shooting someone in VATS, and the devs may have spent more time and effort modeling the 3d chunks of someone's head getting blown apart than they spent on whether some of the _main characters_ of their story were properly written or had motivations that made sense or whether that head was filled with actual interesting thoughts before you put a bullet in it. It's a good vid, you should watch it.

kinda strange that this type of Audio reminds me of the 70's but at the same time feels that his voice is a bit croaky honestly due to his mutation, the later Fallout NV seemed that he sounded more clearly younger. Im just saying.

@Alieneater1239 You do realize these games came out in 1997-1998 right? Obviously you don't know how expensive it was to do fully animated, digital figures heck only important characters were given a 'talking head' and technology hadn't advanced far enough for that stuff to be done in the game engine.
Maybe you should learn to research before spouting nonsense?

This is so bizarre and lunatic, marcus criticize the "mass" but theirs ultimate goal was to become a world encompassing mass of flesh, achieved through rape, so him complaining about "the mass destroying everyone" is kinda hypocritical. I guess it is your average kabbalist. Also to see how the player isnt offered any real rebuttal options make it seems very "my original character built around my religion of rape is right, nah! Not allowed to disagree".

    three
the one in DC was a Prototype, which is why they were so different
FEV mk2 what the master used was design to make the next gun of humans, better in everyway, but variy based on a persons rad level, the lower the smarter. Marcus and Lou being how its suppost to work, whille Harry being how off it can. Gen 1's however then to be above ave to a human.
The one the Evlace use was disign to be shock troopers (as they didn't like mutants of any kind) so they were dumber

@nclanceman It may have had to do with radiation or it may have been exposure to a mutated airborne FEV that resulted from the Chinese bombing the research facility that created FEV. In either case, untouched, pure strain humans (like vault dwellers) would produce the desirable super strong, super intelligent Super Mutants.

@Alieneater1239 No, lol. The advanced tech back then was mostly good for FPS games, and perhaps MMOs. They could have used a 3d engine but why would they back then? For machines to be able to handle it at the time it came out it would have ended up looking like crap. And if everyone "returned" the fallout games they purchased, Bethesda wouldn't have made fallout 3, and they certainly wouldn't have hired the old devs for new vegas.
