Also, my vet cardiologist would not even consider sedation for the echo., because of the drugs affecting the heart. We could not get the cat to lay on the table with the hole, so I suggested my husband hold him. So he held him against his chest and the dr was able to get the “probe” on him and perform the echo. And the cat stayed more calm. Best way to do it!

Thank you Dr. Judy for all the great information you bring to us. I think every veterinarian office should have an animal communicator on board and/or a reiki practitioner. How great would that be for the animals! My veterinarian likes to push so many pills and gas for everything. They need to stop worrying about making money and be more on hands and patient with the animals.

Great video. I have been watching everything I can on heart disease in cats. I have a family of Ginger cats, mother is a petite Ginger and father is a Maine Coon. The boys are all unnaturally large, however the sister is normal. They are all Ginger cats. All three boys have heart issues. And the only reason I found out is because one of the brothers died suddenly. The mother came into my cat sanctuary a few years ago very pregnant. After she gave birth I thought for sure I would be able to adopt them out, but there was never any offers, so here they stayed. I was devastated when that one brother died, and after finding out from an autopsy that he had heart issues, I am now scared of loosing the other two. I have been doing research to find out what I can do, however the vet tells me this is genetic. I will be watching all your videos and hope I can come up with some sort of protocol to protect the last two brothers. Thank you for sharing this information.

After learning about saddle thrombus at the practice I started working in, I’m going down the rabbit hole of heart disease in cats. Incredible information, thank you both so much

Some of these stories are wild to me. I work in an open ER. Owners are present for everything they want to be. Pets only get sedated if needed and most of the time we ultrasound them in whatever position they’re already in to reduce stress. Of course it’s ER do most things are in absolute crisis, respiratory distress, poly trauma, etc. But we make it work, involve the owner in comfort or restraint if it’s safe and allow them to be there for every step if they’re comfortable. Of course this complicates my life as an LVT because although I love emergency, I don’t want to ever go back to doing it the other way. Part of the reason why I do this is to help pet parents be involved, understand and to empower them to manage their pets health at home. They are the full time caregivers of these pets. Heck, a couple weeks ago we had an owner who was a human anesthesiologist with a pet who needed surgery. We masked and bootied her up and let her into the surgery suite. She got to view the intubation, and be present for the entire procedure. We got to learn about how she does human anesthesia in the process. It was a cool experience for everyone involved. I truly hope that companies like mine start to influence change in owners experiences at the vet. I personally find that having people present for what is going on really lessens stress and increases client compliance and overall better care for pets.

My 8 yr old ginger was just diagnosed with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy and fluid around the heart. He had no symptoms, but collapsed one day, I thought a stroke. He could not move his back legs for a few hours after he came around. He has no murder. The original vet diagnosed as dialated cardiomyopathy. It took 2 weeks to get home and get in to a veterinary cardiologist. My cat was only getting canned wet food for years, but switched to the Stella and Chewy’s freeze dried raw. My son has the litter mate brother, and he has only fed dry food. I’ve tried to get him to switch at least to canned.

Hello from NC! I have 3 raw fed cats, they eat lots of heart. How else can we support and help prevent their hearts?❤

Stop neutering and spraying animals are very helpful for preventing their heart diseases.

I’m also in NC!! What part are you in?
One of the things I’m aware of is taurine that can help the heart but I’m sure there are other supportive/preventative things out there that are waiting to be utilized! ❤🐾
