That Sherwood unit got my interest. Back in the day I used to run the Circuit City home theater receivers they contracted from Sherwood and those things were beasts for the price. I had no idea they did any car audio stuff.
Hey Big D...!!?? Have you ever tested the brand PowerAmper? They were a Florida company, but they didn't advertise enough or get their products out to the people! They were very proud stating all of there car audio was made by military specs!!
Holy cow! I havent even thought about that amp since before my joints made noise when I move! LOL I never got to play with one but remember one sitting in the display case where i worked back in 1999.
I like the Star Trek TNG flavored font they used. The amp has a distinct Starfleet look about it. All it needs is some Starfleet logos and GNDN labels.
Brings back memories. Saw a couple of builds with these amps mounted under the rear deck lid, powering upgraded 6x9 3-ways mounted in the deck lid as stock replacements. there was also build that had a pair of Bazooka Tubes with a pair of the Sphere's mounted to the outside of the Tubes. This was in an 80's Nissan Sentra Wagon.
This would run some front door speakers very nicely. Got to give credit to the people that put in the design work of this, looks pretty well made / put together overall.
I love the old stuff! It’s like a Time Machine. I’ve got a couple old amps that are just laying around, not sure if they are still working but I’d love to send them to you to add to your collection.
That thing is just downright cool as hell, never cease to amaze Big D! Def the most obscure amp ive seen here yet. I really hope to see an old school Adcom or Carver Mag Field amp make it to the channel in the future.
Super cool amp! I don’t remember these at all. Had me immediately thinking about what a cool looking install you could have with a rack of 4 of these in an active system. Did they make other amps in this line, like a bass amp?
I think Pyramid should have come out with cylinder shaped amp called square and put it in a hexagon shaped box....mind blown.😂 🧠 💣 With the design of that amp, 3 or 4 of these would look awesome in a old build paired with inverted 04-06 RF punches that had the Grey magnetic covers. One of my favorite punch designs. I've got about 11 of them.
Infiniti kappa 255a their 5 channel amp was just like this. It to slide in an enclosed aluminum heat sink except it wasn't a sphere or tube shape. It was still a pain to slide such a long board in and out. Plus the hassle of screwing the clamps holding the mosfets to the case.
I forgot about the American Graffiti. They were pushing the design trying to be different than everyone else. I would be cool to see someone making much more powerful amps in the same kind of enclosure.
If you look at that Car Audio and Electronics guide, it says that the design was patented. Whether or not that patent expired, was sold off, what have you, who knows. But that might partially explain why no one else has done it, they weren't legally able to.
Back when companies actually thought outside the box on amplifier design and didn't just keep putting the same amplifier over and over in the same case with a different name
I have a quick question for you sir, How are these decades old amplifiers able to perform when electrical components like capacitors can dry up and go bad over time?
You know it’s kind of cool they made something like that. It’s too bad they don’t make stuff like that no more I can think of a few applications where that would look cool in a vehicle instead of the typical old box style amps that we have today and want to sell it let me know I’d definitely buy it from you, be great for my kids and highs
D....iirc...you can run this in 3 channel mode. (st& bridged at the same time for those who didn't know). jensen also had a 4channel w/bbe that could be run in 6 channel mode.
Sold a lot of graffiti sound back in the day I think they changed their name over to American Graffiti later but never seen this apm in person only in magazines
I seen one of these back in around 2003. It came into the audio shop I was working at. At first glance I thought it was a capacitor Ended up not buying/trading for it Cool piece tho
The word you are looking for that case is extruded, its an extruded aluminum case. Very unique, very cool amp, these days you can probably fit a 1kw amp in there.
I remember seeing these when I was a "Too cool" 20 something and thought there was no way I was buying something from a company named after a movie like American Graffiti! I mean as a mid 40s man now I like that movie but at that age it was super lame. I have no idea what their intentions WERE with the name but my mind instantly went there and thought, "Yeah I guess this is an amp company for my grandpa and his 50s car loving ass!" I can only assume other people may have too and it probably didn't help sales.
Called Sphere
Is a Cylinder
Shipped in a triangular pyramid
Love everything about this!🔺🔴
😂
lol, I commented above before reading. I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed.
I may have to change the title 👈🤯
Thought I was the only one that caught that
Triangular prism
That thing looks like it could air up your suspension bags too. lol

Wow! What a unique amp for the collection...
It has a distinct " orphan source " aura about it for sure .
Very creative and unique design , and not to shabby in terms of performance .
Yeah it would suit a radiation symbol sticker on there quite well
I was afraid it would be stopped in transit
Thats very different , never seen one before and surprised at how well it did on the dyno , pretty cool. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I had one of those old Sherwood 70x70 boat anchors. lol

It looks just like a capacitor. Cool design
I have a few of these running in my current set up, and they sound great.🎉🎉🎉
can you do a video?
it almost looks like the 2Farad capacitor I had in my car back in the days

Crazy stuff lol id love me one of those as i love all things weird 😂the ratings r spectacular ❤
There isn't much known about American Graffiti except that they were once a sub-brand of Zapco.
Super cool amp! I don’t remember these at all. Had me immediately thinking about what a cool looking install you could have with a rack of 4 of these in an active system. Did they make other amps in this line, like a bass amp?
Yes like 5 different models including a 1000W sub amp. Never seen one tho
That would be cool to have a bunch of them❤❤❤
Crazy! How did i never run into one of those!!! LOL
This amp looks super high quality. It even has NCC (Nippon Chemi-Con) Japanese capacitors!
This is the one I really wanted to see. It looks like the capacitor i put on my system back in the day. Lol
Yeah, looks VERY capacitor designed. Cap and amp next to each other would make for a clean and unique install, especially in a visible space.
Talk about opening a time capsule. That is a neat guts layout.
I like it. Well built! They can do some full bridge amps similar design that would do 2-3k!
The design of this amp would pair nicely with a bass tube.
I've never seen this. This is super dope
Looks great unique design .
Gorgeous!
Cool amp
Would love to see a test of the old Sanyo PA6100. Those were great amps back in the day!
That is most definitely unique! Looks like they were trying for the "Bazooka" look.
Or a capacitor...?
Throw a bazooka tube and a capacitor in your trunk and you've got an all cylindrical setup... Haha
@@volvo09 hahahaha, true!
Back in the day , didn't they make an " NOS" sub woofer tube or amp ?
Yeah, he has shown a sub designed to look like a nitrous bottle in the past, even had a round VU meter standing in for the tank pressure gauge.
Bazooka had one that looked like a Nitrous tube.
ruclips.net/video/WbIliBl7_FA/видео.html
They made a powered and unpowered model.
@wal2 ahhhh there it is.. Thanks guys !
W O W... I thought I'd seen about everything, Leave it to Big D to pull out the Unicorn design of amps.. - Surry Virginia
I had one of these powering 2 6X9 in a ol Sckool Square body Ford , and it was dam good
That is cool man
Aweome design.
I like it
I had an amplifier just like that but it was Octagonal instead of completely round. I wish I never sold it. It's hard to find and Unique.
And it has a fan dam that's nice
Nice amp. Great to see something different.
😎👍👍
2 of those bridged pushing 2 Bazooka subs would be a great looking setup.
On top of a bazooka like a scope. Lol
I'm not going to lie I love the amp even if it only has 10 watts
I've been waiting to see you review this one.
WOW. incredible so tiny that many watts 👍
The design was really ahead of its time for the late 90s. This is such a mid 2000s design. The only thing missing is plexiglass and blue LEDs :D
Lol😊.. that Sherwood 70+70 was my first amp purchase..it sent several sets of afs kricket domax 3 6x9s back for warranty
Love it!
I want 2 of those 😳
Man I'd like to find me one. This is just too cool 😎
Now I'm curious about how other American Graffitti amp stack up.
Interesting. Honestly looks like an old Zapco board. I wonder who made these.

So, what is that big toroid doing? Is that a boost converter or voltage stabilizer of some kind?
This might look good in an old blue hotrod?
Why was the box triangle shaped?
*Because you can't put a round peg into a square hole!* 😂
Definitely the most difficult amp to ever see the guts 😂
Back when companies actually thought outside the box on amplifier design and didn't just keep putting the same amplifier over and over in the same case with a different name
back when companies focused on tacky design instead of focusing on improving power or efficiency
I have a quick question for you sir, How are these decades old amplifiers able to perform when electrical components like capacitors can dry up and go bad over time?
Hi, can you please old school the pioneer kp-500 car stereo? Thanks!
The line in/out are backwards?
Nice 1
Why do you turn to voltage back up after you just turned it down to the rated voltage?
Are you going to sell the sphere amp?
Great to match with your killer Capacitor back in the day 😂
My Father In law has a pair of these amps in his Chevy S10
a pleasant surprise.......
Oh snap. Had the same Sherwin Vega amp. Was stolen out of my car. Lived in Bradenton Fl
You can put that amp next to your condensator
Have you seen this amp yet? Power Acoustik MOFO1-10KD
It looks interesting 🤔 it's only $167.00 🤷♂️
You know it’s kind of cool they made something like that. Simple ✌️
It's nice when you get what you pay for and more sometimes

Yeah Boiii
Does it bump DOE?
A cylindrical amp, named Sphere, in a trigonal prism shaped box. I'm getting a math headache.
🤣👍
Damn, based on the test date, the amp is almost same age as me
WAL is the amplifier authority.
👍👍
I seen one of these back in around 2003. It came into the audio shop I was working at. At first glance I thought it was a capacitor Ended up not buying/trading for it
Cool piece tho
New kind of tube amplifier
It’s like totally tubular 🤣
sphere sphere. this a a cylinder damit !
Wow, is that thing made from old military surplus materials? Lol It looks durable.
It’s built like a tank 😝
I knew that was a Rockwood amp, mfs bumped hard back in the 90's and so did thump
You're not getting on any airplanes with that doo hickey. LMAO 🤣 You gotta do the Sherwood next.
I was wondering if it would even make it with UPS
The word you are looking for that case is extruded, its an extruded aluminum case.
Very unique, very cool amp, these days you can probably fit a 1kw amp in there.
Hot dayum, the thickness of that extrusion is quite something, that is a VERY meaty one.
“back in the day” they made a tube amp using two cans and a string.
How much I would like to buy this for my trailer I’m on eBay we could do the sale there or whatever you would like
Lol.
He is a holdl on amps lol.
Dont think you gone have it lol

How these technical measures correlate to what our ears hear is anyone's guess.

I bet you won’t take any flights carrying that amplifier in your luggage. Lol
That thing looks like the canister that mutagen came in from the Teenager Mutant Turtles.
TMNT FTW!
Paint it red and it might pass as a fire extinguisher.
Wasn't American graffiti just a division of audiovox?
