i love how most rammstein songs can be viewed from different angles. is the song about colonialism? sex tourism? life on the road? maybe one, maybe all.

I like the idea that the song is about Rammstein on tour, giving concerts abroad for two hours, exchanging a few words in the respective language with the concertgoers and then moving on.
PS: One of the children with the long blond hair who is crying is the child of a band member. I don't know whether it's Christoph's or Oliver's.

Hello. You probably know that at some point in their live shows, one of the band crowd surfs in a rubber dinghy. When I saw them last year, they performed a piano version of ‘Engel’ (complete with the German lyrics shown on big screens so the British crowd could sing along) on a small stage out in the middle of the stadium. Most of the band then made their way back to the main stage in a couple of dinghies. Till (I think, it was over 6 months ago) had got back to the stage and was holding up the ‘Wilkommen’ sign. Of course, once the rest of the band got off the dinghies they launched into ‘Auslander’. It’s possibly the only time, as far as I can remember, when the band closely followed something that had appeared in the video for the same song in a live performance.

Have I ever told you how much I love your Rammstein reactions? 😄🖤
Btw, for me the greatest thing about this song is how they finish the live performances of it (I think everywhere or almost everywhere except for Russia, because it is forbidden there). 😏🖤

The origin of this kiss goes back to a concert in russia, where they kissed for the first time to „protest“ against the anti-gay politics over there :)

The way I see the topic in this song is basically like the place they are visiting is a territory owned by another country who’s culture is completely different. They come periodically to visit and teach their ways. They also immerse themselves into the culture a bit. They impregnate the women, and then they head back to their home and leave these people to take care of the children, and and continue to practice the culture that was brought to them. With so many countries having these territories in their control that aren’t like theirs, this song is very true.

Another great reaction from you both and a perfect analysis from Domenica. Even though there's a lot of humour in the video, there's a bite to it, a bit of darkness. The little blond haired boy at the end who is crying is actually one of the drummer, Schneider's, sons.

If Rammstein is in a lane, certainly there is a punch to be thrown there. It may or may not hit but they will try. The images in their videos seem unconventional or disturbing to many, but maybe that's how it should be. I think we owe them a debt of gratitude for introducing us to our nature as human beings. Also good music is extra but free..

Gojira is amazing. They are a little softer musically now and use the clean vocals more often. Check out their song The Chant. The official video to this track is beautiful and very deep. My other recommendation is Mastodon. Another fantastic metal band. Teardrinker or The Sparrow is a good introduction to this band. Greetings from Poland. Horns up 💯💥💯

domenica & andre, i am a big fan of you both commenting rammstein.
a welcome and hello from germany.
you know, i`ve learned today that in berlin/neukölln, where new years eve something went not the right way, there are more than 300 000 people living from 150 different nations/languages.
i guess, this might be a problem but doesn't have to be calling them - ausländer.
    here we go, rammstein.

The song is about complaining about foreigners coming to Europe countries, but on the same time the European countries colonized other countries in the past. It is ironic but it is like "mein Land" telling about nationalism.

Nice reaction, as always. What I noticed is that you often use videos with rather poor german->english translation. Of course, the meaning will be understood, but some nuances may be missed. If you want a good translation of the Rammstein song's lyrics, I recommend the "educatedmarine" channel.

In connection with the video I think it is about how the Germans and other people behaved in times of colonialism and to had their fun with the women at these places but then they left them to go back home and behaved to them selves, the woman, their kids and their eifes and kids at home like this never happened ever there. And also it has the second meaning in todays world that the same behaviour is existent in sex tourism in asia what many old german man do and behave exactly the same like the people a few hundred years ago too.

Definitely this song is about the evils of colonialism, but with some dark humor thrown in. You may not want to do a reaction on your channel, but there is a "making of Auslander" video that pretty much explains the rationale behind the song, and they actually interview some of the tribal participants.
    Love, love, love your reactions!!

    Hi, I'm from Germany.
Rammstein is playing a classic "Industrial Metal" style. A 50-50 mix of synthesizers and hard metal guitars.
Making a satire out of it is the only way to deal with racism.
it was the motif of the refugee boat that framed the music video. Because it starts with Rammstein arriving on an island in a rubber dinghy and it ends with all the band members leaving the island on the rubber dinghy, with the exception of Flake, who is first forgotten and then held back.
Which is a lot of cliché, fits damn well with the lyrics of the song and the associated meta level. Because: On a lyrical level, the song is clear. It's about globality instead of nationality. About the German cosmopolitan traveling abroad. About the German globetrotter as an enemy. About someone who wants to impress the ladies in foreign countries with pseudo-worldly gibberish.
This is exactly what they wanted to emphasize by using authentic materials on both sides, as explained further in the making-of video. For example, Flake's (historical) silk suit still said "Deutsch-Südwest-Afrika", a German colony in what is now Namibia.
Arriving on the island, the white colonialists give Rammstein to a tribe of black natives. And they don't leave out any clichés.
    germany colonies in africa
The German colonial empire included parts of today's People's Republic of China, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Namibia, Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, and several islands in the western Pacific and Micronesia

When you live at the edge of the modern world and don‘t know a TV, you will not miss it…do you? Modern society will always show you a carrot, that you want badly, but doesn‘t need, to keep everything running. Like a hamster in his wheel. People who are satisfied and happy with what they have, are pretty useless for the economy.
