Are you looking for a way to change your iTunes backup location in windows?
Well ,you are at the right place!
This video helps you to change iTunes backup location in Windows 10
Contact us : info@grasspo.com
Video Content:
0:00 - Intro
0:45 - Step 1: Find and Rename the Backup Location
3:16 - Step 2 : Transfer the File to the New Location
8:26 - Outro
If you have installed iTunes from your Web Browser, you have to
go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\Backup
If you have installed from Microsoft Store, you have to go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\Apple\MobileSync\Backup
Command for changing the location
cmd /c mklink /J “OldLocationpath\Backup” “New Location”
We can do this in just 2 steps.
1st Step is to find and rename our Backup Location..
If you have installed itunes from your Web Browser, you have to go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\Backup
If you have installed from Microsoft Store, you have to go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\Apple\MobileSync\Backup
To find the Backup Location
Open ‘This PC’
Then the C Drive
And then Open Users
Choose the Username of your PC,
Open the Apple folder and then the Mobile Sync folder.
Open the backup folder.
Next, To see the space occupied,
Go back to the Mobile Sync folder,
Right click on the folder and Click ‘Properties’.
You’ll see the space occupied on the Properties Pop up Window
Once you find the backup location.
Next, rename the backup folder.
To rename the folder,
Go back to backup folder
Right click and choose ‘Rename’.
You can enter any name of your choice, but make sure the folder is not named ‘Backup’.
Once you do the First step,
Next, Move on to the 2nd step which is to Transfer the File to the New Location.
The new location can be on another Drive on your PC or an External Drive.
To transfer the file to the New location,
Open the Drive (which is your new location).
Now Create a New folder.
To create a folder,
Right click and select ‘new’ and then ‘folder’.
To make this as your new backup location
You need to create a link from the old location to the new location
To create the link from old location to new location
Go to the old location.
And Press shift and then right click.
Click on “Open Powershell Window”.
Then, type the following command:
cmd /c mklink /J “Old Location path \Backup” “New Location Path”.
Once you type the command, press Enter.
Now, you will see a command which shows that a junction has been created for your file.
As soon as this command appears,
You will see a new backup folder created.
This means whenever a new backup is taken on the itunes it’ll be automatically transferred to this new location here
To test that,
Move your old backup file to the new backup folder.
Open the backup folder.
Now move the old backup folder
Now go back and open the new backup folder
And then paste it there.
As soon as you paste the folder
You will see that the folder will be transferred to the new location.
This means that this folder will not occupy any space in the C Drive, so whatever backup added to this location will be automatically transferred to the new location. (callout)
So now we’ve successfully changed our iTunes Backup location.
So from now, if you take a new backup from your Apple device, your C Drive will no longer be occupied by iTunes.
Thanks for Watching!

This should win an award for the best tutorial video on RUclips! Thank you so much dude.
I spent hours trying to reduce my iPhone memory to do a computer backup on a C drive that was not big enough. I even explored options to repartition my hard disk to increase C drive memory, which proved to be costly. This solved the problem in a surprisingly easy manner. Simple yet specific instructions were extremely useful. You only need to invest 10 minutes of your time. I wish I had found this video sooner! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
@@Grassp.o If we will transfer the file to a new folder like as you showed in the video so can we open those files from there to have a look as if they are done or not ??
I changed location then I not get restore in iTunes 😢
This is the best tutorial I've ever seen in my whole life of living. Even the description of the video contains explanations + time stamps.. Like how can this be so simple yet very detailed and informative and it's all done in under 10 minutes!! Thank you so much!!!
This made it to where I could back up my phone for the first time in 3 years. My computer never had enough space. Thank you.
This is such a helpful video. Ive been trying to figure this out for so long. So easy to understand. No more occupied c drive.
Cleanest explanation, you made it simple! Therefore I was able to finally make my iPhone restore backup...Respect.
Hi may I know if I wanna to restore the data will the pc smart enough to locate the old data from the new path Itunes location instead?
I really want to thank you for making this so easy, I was reading tutorials online and it was not clicking for me, but watching you helped me get this figured out, I had to do some tweaking with the steps because I’m still running Windows 8.1, the main reason I needed to move the Apple files is because I’m trying to free up space to upgrade to 10. I can’t thank you enough, I was so happy it worked and how easy it was! Definitely subscribed to you now
Thanks Ameen! You're a Rockstar! This worked like a charm...! You explained it all so clearly!!
Thank you somuch!
@@Grassp.o Hi, really impressive content, however there is one issue if you can create or let us know regarding how to sync the songs from windows 11 pc to iPhone, have tried multiple times but couldn't done it... Including how do we take iPhone backup on window pc?
Thank you
Ravi
Hey Grasspo. What about the backup recovery for the phone? Just click restore this back up on itunes and it takes it automatically from the new location?
Hi,
Kindly clear when we take the backup from itunes incase of restore iphone ...from where it will take the file ? mobile sync or new location ?..
Thank you!!! I have been frustrated with laptop storage for months. When I found out my APPLE DEVICES is consuming such large space and I thought there is nothing I can do about it. Luckily I see your tutorial and save a lot of space.

great job months i am serching for such thing only you should mention that there is space between folders in code
Your video saved my day and 36gb on C Drive. Now all is blue and green. Before it was red with only 12gb left on C. Great advice, thank you so much.😀
Even tho I didn't know about this stuff i liked it Well done bro 🙌🏻...Nice presentation ❤️
Found this super easy to understand!! Great stuff.
Best video on RUclips about this topic. Thank youuuuu
I got trouble to backup my device due to insufficient storage on PC, found this video and follow the steps and my case solved! Thank you
I have always wondered how to change this thing. Thanks for the video. Loved the animations.
Dope stuff dude. Great content. Just waiting for this to blow up!
What a great instructional video!! Clear, detailed, and concise. After spending hours trying to find a solution, your video is the best! Thank you so much.
I was screwed last 7 days, my phone wouldn’t restore backup.
A simple thing that you require space twice the size of your backup for restoring is not mentioned anywhere by Apple.
As my C drive did not have enough empty space for restoring the iPhone i had to shift it to D driver and got my job done immediately.
Thanks for this easy and beautiful video.
SIMPLY PRECIOUS! Thank you! Just another 2 questions: 1) Once we did this setting is made, all the future iPhone's backpas will be automatichally saved on the external drive? 2) how do I restore all content on iPhone from that backup which is now on the external drive? THANK YOU AGAIN!
my thoughts too. did you ever figured this out
Very helpful for the non techn savvy person
Thanks 😊
hi.. first of all thank you, i did everything what you said on the video, but it says "You do not have sufficient privilege to perform this operation." can you help me?
Crystal clear explanation
Followed exactly what's shown in the video. I am using windows 11 but now I have an iTunes Backup Location on 2 different places. One in the orginal directory and one in the newly created directory. They are linked because when I delete the content in the orginal directory also the file in the newly created directory is deleted. What'ss the problem and how can I solve this?
Trust me this is the only helpful video I have ever seen in the internet which really worked in terms of technical stuffs, well done !!!!!
Good information!
Restriction when shift + right click . What I do?
Easy to follow and very well explained. Thank you so much sir.
straight to the point and precise!!
Best tutorial ever, so understandable and easy. well done.
it worked just like you said but i still have the c drive space occupied how do i delete the storage without messing up the linked backup location ?
Ameen:
I followed your tutorial and here are the results.
All this seems to do is COPY the backup file from the old location to the new location. It doesn't MOVE it. Check the properties on the BACKUP FOLDER, in the old location, not just the MobileSync folder. The BACKUP folder is loaded with files and folders. It appears that this command zeros out the MobileSync properties, leading you to believe it's empty, when in reality it's not. It also creates, unwanted, redundancy by copying the OLD backup location to the NEW backup location.
I just finished backing up my iPhone, again, with iTunes. Both the old location BACKUP and the NEW location BACKUP have the same files and folders in them, while the MobileSync folder shows SIZE, SIZE ON DISK and CONTAINS as 0 bytes.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Also, how can I put things back the way they were?
Thanks
Exactly, how do you reverse it, since I didn't pay attention to the original commands before changing them? I too still show contents in the "backup" folder, although MobileSync folder shows zero...
How to restore from the backup created on external hdd ?
Also will the bridge created will be same at the time of restoring as external hdd drive letter might change when we plug in hdd later to restore ?
I have to say, this is the best How To video for computers and iPhones out there, awesome job man !!!
Wow i watched MULTIPLE TUTORIALS ans yours is the only one who worked. Thank you!
One of the best explanations for ppl like me who will never get computers unless explained like a 6year old,a couple of questions that might be silly, 1) we can disconnect the external hard drive after the backup is done, and when we want ti back up again just need to reconnect it right?
2)when we need to restore our phone incase we lose it and get a new one, would the process be the same as before or are there any new steps?
Finally something that really works ! Thank you in 2024
thanks for explaining this so simply
Nice video, but one question! If the backup path is changed, and then we restore, will it still take the restore path from the new folder path or old C drive
my question too. was this ever resolved?
I've watched a lot of videos, yours was the only one that worked. Thank you for your help!!!
I've never commented, but this is the best tutorial on this topic, ever!! Thank you.
I don't normally comment, but it's very useful and one of the most explanatory videos I've seen. Thanks!
Bro you just saved my life.
My IOS update stopped at the middle for low space in C drive.
Best Of All Love you . Thanks for the help
the best and easiest explanation! thanks!
Legend! Thanks! This really work, no bs!
Informative stuff! Well now this means when I'll be backing up my phone thru iTunes it'll be directly backed up to E drive okay... And one of more query will I be able to restoe the iPhone from this same E drive location?
Hey ! This is such an informative and cool video 🤩🤩
If only everybody made it this easy to follow. Great job
Awesome bro., i am not a computer science guy., however just tried followed your instruction and got it in first shot., really lovely and simplified explained., keep it up. Appreciated.
Man you literally saved my life with this video! I tried other methods but it didn’t work. Clearest video by far. Good job! 👍🏼
Thanks 🙏🏾
Can we just uninstall iTunes and reinstall it on the other drive (assuming it’s an internal PC drive / not an external hard drive)?
And then just copy and paste the backups?
Even I am also planning the same. Did you try this bro?
You are rockstar my brother…
U taught us in very simple way…and i did it..🎉🎉
How to cancel what we did with this command??
when I click enter from pwershell it says access denied...why is that? can you help me?
Please press ctrl and open powershell !
So when it's time to upload your data to your iphone after getting a new one do i have to plug in the SSD?
This was a great video!! Just to clarify, once I back up my device to this new location, when it’s time to restore from my last backup, it’ll still work?
Excellent explanation, walk through and pace!
i have a question, so i recently had to delete itunes and reinstall it, and i thought i had to redo all the steps again and so i did, turns out all of the steps save even tho u delete itunes and reinstall it, so i have the “Old Backup” and the “Backup” both routing to the “New itunes backup” but it’s still the same size and everything, like there’s no issues. is this okay? it should be fine? the “MobileSync” folder still has 0 bytes so it didn’t really do anything but just route it again to the “New itunes backup” folder
Do I have to first backup in C drive first then follow your way to transfer to other disk?
Currently my drive C already full couldn’t backup anymore 😢
Thank you for this detailed tutorial explaining each and every steps in detail...
Many thanks Brother , this worked and helped largely
Thank you so much! This has been a problem every time I want to backup any of my ipods/iphones, and since itunes won't let you change where the backups go, this helped immensely. I've dealt with having less than 4gb free on my computer C drive for years lol
you are a LIFESAVER! thank you so much for the simple tutorial. i watched a lot of other videos besides yours, and i say yours is better! Now my laptop doesn't jammed too quickly 😭
Thank You Bro!!! It was the only video that helped me to transfer the Backup location of my iPhone
Can I delete my old backup to open up more space on my C drive?
Will the iPhone restore fine from the drive D since I moved it there from C? If it is more difficult then I may need a video on that too. Great video!
we need more people like you, Thank you so much!
I have a question. What are the steps to undo this if I ever want to go back and back up my iphone to my C drive?
OMG! You are such a genius! Thanks for this man! Now next time I update my IOS, it can back up on its own and not make my C Drive full! You made me subscribe, congratulations!
Superb Explanation Ever Bro thank you ❤😊
Thanks for the insightful information. But, I need your help. After watching your video I created a juncture and successfully backed up my iPhone. However, I had to delete my "New iPhone Backup Location" from my Hard Drive for some reason. Now, I cannot create a juncture again in the same drive. So, can please help me to delete that old juncture with the help of coding so that I can create a new juncture. Thank you in advance.
Can i use the same method using the path to GOOGLE DRIVE or only to an external hard drive?
You made it so easy. Saved me so much time, energy, and disk space. Thank you!
Hello. I know my happiness is not your responsibility. ha! Would you please look at the Shell entry below... and see if you notice something wrong? I have been going in circles for hours. Everyone here says how easy this is.... but it's not working for me and I don't know why.
Here's what I see on my blue Shell screen AFTER I attempt to create the junction to change my Itunes backup folder to an external drive. Could it be as simple as spaces between words that's not correct? I am baffled and very frustrated.
You will see below that I do NOT see a "junction created" message on my screen.
But I also see no indication of errors? So bizarre. Thank you in advance if you can help.

Hey thanks for the very easy to follow tutorial. I've done this before but it had been awhile and I needed a refresh on how to do it again. This was perfect!
Thank you for your clear instructions! I have failed multiple times tried to backup my phone due to insufficient space on C drive.
Wow it worked very well. I had been looking for this kind of video. Well explained. I have 560 Gb of photos and data. I am hoping restore will work same way. I have not tried yet. Very impress with your video. Job well done.
You are Legend bro , but why when arrives 99 Backup fails? I tried many time and different device but the same💔
After moving the backup, has anyone tried restoring their iPhone backup (using iTunes) from the external hard drive? Does it work?? 😀
After some trial and error it worked for me. Big thanks to you man! Explained so clearly as well👍🏻
does it restore in the original default manner from itunes?
or some other similar method required ?
Hi bro can u give explain me how to change location when I take backup Because my c drive not enough to take backup
best tutorial I've watched. extremely detailed and clear. thank you so much!!
Thanks very formal tutorial and easy to understand. Its a shortcut to another drive location.
When restoring a backup, will Itunes look in this new folder also?
thanks, you explained all step very nicly
do i have to transfer the data back into the original file when recovering data or i can just recover it straight from itune if i have the external storage drive connected to my pc
Can i also drag my backup to another harddrive after making it on my C-Drive?
Thank you so much i have been struggling with this for months now. And finally i could do it all thanks to you ur video was very specific, detailed and easy t understand. Thank you so so much.
you're a life saver
The best Tutorial ever , the only way it actually worked for me Thanks very very much
why cant we directly copy and paste ithe data from one drive to another and deleting the previous one. does some kind of error occur? or there is some sort of data corrupt risk?
I had changed the backup location to an external hard disk. Unfortunately i have lost that hard disk & want to change the location back to my windows. Can you please help
I tried following the same method again but this messaged popped on the powershell "cannot create a file when that file already exists"
I would really appreciate if you can help me with this. Thank you
Your answer here 😊 ruclips.net/video/adfH2Q8WpKo/видео.html
Thank you so much! This worked perfectly (My "Apple" folder was hidden so I had to search it, as I could not find it simply in the "user" folder)
Nonetheless once the folder was found, following the steps exactly as described in the video created the link to transfer the files.
There should be by default some easier way via iTunes to simply change backup location folder, but until that happens (or if it does exist and I haven't found it) this was a great alternative solution😁
