The Classics will always be classics. A great entry level set of cans for rock and metal. Thank you for the review, and for the comparison. I will most definitely be getting the 105 to add to the stable.
Thanks for this review - I have to say that Meze has an amazing design with this 105 AER, and the 109 Pro. The velour ear pads are a good thing - *so* many fake leather pads end up shedding black flakes ... this is an issue with my Dan Clark / Drop Aeon Open X headphones. How would you compare the 105 AER with the 109 Pro?
I loved this review and the way you went about analyzing the headphones and pairings. But as someone who was paid the price for Verum 2 and have been waiting on the kickstarter for half a year now, I am very very sad. It seems that kickstarter project are maybe a no go in this day an age, because things move so fast that you might be getting outdated gear when you wil actually get the product. Half a year ago, this was the best sub 500$ headphones and you actually compared them to some under 1000. Now they are being shadowed by a 300 euro pair of cans.
Same price as Senns superb 660S2. Stiff competition. I did not like the original 105 but I do like the 99 Classic, much more fun.Thank you for the review
I tried the Meze 105 AER with my Lotoo Paw Gold Touch and Mass Kobo 475 stack yesterday. I am still hearing that Meze infamous treble spike which annoys me. And it sounded so 2 Dimensional, it is as if I am listening to a stereo Koss Porta Pro with a little refinement. My experience is totally different from what you are explaining in this video. Also I got the opportunity to compare with the cheaper FiiO FT1 headphone and it sounded a lot better than the Meze 105 AER. What a shame that a beautifully designed headphone is wasted on a poorly made sound. It is like a beautiful woman who is a tone deaf.
im wondering if this is worth the $100 difference from the aune ar5000 as soon i will be buying that or maybe this meze 105. i do want current year, open-back headphones that are easy to drive which i think both headphones are.
Nice video mate, I have a question… I have the IFI Gryphon which has 1W of power at 32ohms, could it move the Verum 2 to 100% of its capacity? And what power do you recommend to take the Verum 2 to its maximum capacity?
Man, I didn't expect that. Because everyone was praising the AR5000 for its vocals and comparing it to the Sennheiser HD6 series which are known for their great midrange and vocals. That's why I wanted to know how the 105 AER compares to the AR5000 in terms of timbre and vocals. So, just to be clear, for overall midrange presentation - organic/natural timbre and vocals - the 105 AER is better than AR5000?
To my ears it is. AR5000 is detailed and does upper midrange great but lacks body a bit compared to 105AER so vocals are not as fullbodied and palpable.
@@iiWiReviews Thanks. Is there one or more aspect(s) of AR5000 which stands out to you more compared to the 105 AER? BTW I'll be driving them off Aune S9C Pro which in part I got due to your great and detailed review. Under USD500/600, what's your recommendation for natural timbre and vocals?
So they are not shrill, have decent bass, but are not warm.... did I hear you say warm? Almost seems like they'd be OK to pair with the Topping DX3 Pro+ that you "made" me buy LOL 😉 ?
Maybe Verum 1 would have been a better comparison. Verum 2 isn't even for sale yet, just kickstarter and that is closed. Verum 2 will probably not be for sale until wel into 2025. They first have to supply the kickstarter backers.
The mid-fi segment is really hot nowdays, oh boy i would like to see a tierlist with the: HD660s2, AER 105, FT1 pro, AR5000, Edition xs/Ananda nano.

Sounds like these may be ideal for a mobile rig with a good dongle (I have a Cayin RU7) since they are easy to drive?
Always. Cool runnings.
Thanks. Cheers 🍻

Agreed about design and pads. I haven't had a chance to try 109.
Will FiiO FT1 or FT1 Pro be able to compete with this 105 AER? I'm a sucker for wood and thus like the design of their 109 Pro.
Thank you! Any comparable thoughts with Alba, which I love?
Would the 105 be more comparable to the Verum 1

Aune SR 7000 vs Meze 105 AER, what is your choice?
SR7000 scales better with higher end gear but be ready to invest more in DAC and AMP to get the most out of it.
@@iiWiReviews Something like D90 III Discrete + Cayin iHA-8 or Aune S17 Pro EVO ?
Yes
What about vs AR5000?

"Big Bad John" is BETTER than the Jimmy Dean version!!! That was FUN!
I call them Josh Valour ear pads simply because I find nominative determinism so entertaining 😂
Im planning to buy them! Which dac would you suggest smsl or chord?

As the fiio FT1 do u mean the new FT1 PRO planar? or the closed back FT1?
@@CoffeeGameMovieFT1 closed back
For being an open-back with great vocals, I wonder how it compares to my HD600 set?
im wondering if this is worth the $100 difference from the aune ar5000 as soon i will be buying that or maybe this meze 105. i do want current year, open-back headphones that are easy to drive which i think both headphones are.
I prefer 105 AER and would go for these if budget allows.

I never tried that iFi so can't really say anything about it.
Hi! How does the 105 AER comprare to Aune AR5000? Especially, which one has the better organic/natural timbre and vocals?
I would easily go with Meze for that.

Should be one of the best choices for a DAC/AMP like DX3 pro+. I wouldn't pair anything lean/bright with it.
Would the Q15 be a good DAC amp to drive verum 2?
How do they compare to popular 109 pro?
I haven't heard 109 pro so can't say.

Another female acoustic style singer/songwriter you might like... Tristan Prettyman 2005 album Twentythree. 😎
I'll check it out, thanks for the recommendation.
