Well, it was a TV movie after all, so budgets are way lower than with theatrical movies. Plus this was in the 80's, so there was really no CGI yet, it's all traditional practical effects & sets. And of course Lou had to be the Hulk, not a CGI version, even if they had CGI back then, of which early CGI would have been impractical visually.
This was my favorite of the 3 TV movies they did. Thor and Banner/Hulk had a genuine, fun connection together and it was honestly the only one of the 3 movies that seemed to stay true to the ways of the TV series

But we all know he built himself up like this due to weightlifting because of his hearing loss due to an ear infection at the age of 3; in the season four episodes King Of The Beach, Big Louie appeared out-of-character as Carl Molino, a restaurant worker who entered a bodybuilding contest; there was a scene at a gym that showed him working out. So you can hardly accuse him of bulking up on steroids.

Grabbed this vhs tape out of a box someone tried to throw away at Burger King. Greatest discovery ever! Shortly after Hulk ‘03 came out in theaters and I went and seen it. I grew up in that era before the MCU. From Spiderman the Animated Series to X-Men: Last Stand. That’s the true Marvel.

Great film, super highly recommended if your never saw it. One of the most enjoyable films ever made. Alan Hale Jr was known mostly for playing the Skipper on Gilligan's Island. .Eric Allen Kramer played Alan Hale Jr as the Skipper in the TV docudrama Surviving Gilligan's Island.
My favourite scene in this movie starts when he puts the cd in the cd rom tray as he is voice recording his notes and last testament the suspence and acting by Bixby is so good!

I liked this movie, not as much as some of the series, like Prometheus, but what I enjoyed about this movie was more when Thor and the Hulk first meet. I personally don't consider any of what's in this clip as 'the best parts', but whatever. A lot of ppl like to watch or hear about something for like 1 minute and make a judgement on an entire series, event or persons life. And many ppl like to trash everything, to both feel above it all and less likely to have anything for others to attack, if everything 'sucks'. End of the day enjoy what you want and others will what they want. If there's 2 ppl and one is enjoying something and the other is not, it would seem the one that's happy and enjoying is better off than the one that isn't enjoying.

Eh, Eric Kramer did fine as Thor. I still prefer this take on the Hulk where it's basically The Fugitive with Banner as Kimble helping people along the way versus the CG fests with too much emphasis on Hulk just destroying stuff for the sake of destruction porn in the later adaptations.
I personally think this crap looks 1,001 times better than any of the modern Audible/Visual Diarrhea that Marvel puts out CONSTANTLY these days. And this isn't very good really. But still, 1,001 times better than the current crap!

Between the 70s show hulk, The Incredible Hulk Returns Hulk(this one), The Trial Hulk, and The Death Hulk, I find this one featured in The Hulk Returns to be the most vicious and monstrous because unlike the one from the show, and the next two films, this one had a more monster like face and the roars and growls he did were more monstrous while the ones he did in the 70s show and next two films sounded more on the boring side and less monstrous. This Hulk is even the most muscular one and looks drastically different from the one in the show. Lou Ferrigno even said in an interview that he had nightmares from the Hulk makeup from this film.
Who needed CGI when you had Lou Ferrignou. Heartbreaking, Bill Bixby died at only 59 he was great as David Banner.

Thor was pretty naff, but this Hulk was by far the most believable and had the most human story of any TV or film treatment to this day.

These were some of the best special defects I have ever seen.
