As much as I would love to agree there I believe a lot more factors to put into this such as the time period these two characters are at and what their skill level is like Sonic appears sorta weak in Forces unlike lost world. Second thing I would like to bring up is the time travel thing. Do you mean chaos control? And if so he hasn’t done it in a while. So we don’t even know if he can do it still. Lastly yes Sonic has his friends but you kinda forgot the Mario has his brother Luigi and possibly friends like Toad.
Yeah, I see what you're saying. Sonic can time travel in Sonic CD, but using the Signposts. Regarding Mario and his brother + friends, I haven't seen them as a "power of friendship" thing yet, it's usually just them doing an adventure together. Take the ending of Sonic Heroes for example. They have like a team-attack to defeat Metal Overlord. Same for ending of Sonic Forces(which I really liked that game for some reason). I am not sure if Mario has had those moments yet.
