Making FSR 3 compatible with essentially all DX11 and 12 games is truly a game changer. This just gives you yet another reason not to waste your money on NVIDIA now.
Great for 7900xt/7900xtx owners or maybe other 7000 series AMD card owners.
I'm back at it. Wanted to build a PC for couple years now but the miners ruined it. Now with the prices coming back to earth....this alone is enough...on principle...to buy amd hardware.

@charlesclarke7790 I have always liked AMD for their processors...pushing limits and they are outside the box. The integrated graphics in with CPU was always intriguing to me. Seems that has unfortunately gone to the way side of things. I hope those come back soon....they seemed like a really good stop gap for folks trying to get into pc gaming but couldn't afford a decent GPU at the time. Also great for SFF builds.
Interesting fact....VBA in excel uses a lot of GPU resource to run complicated script. At times some of the stuff I've built/written struggles on the standard business desktop machines but rubs fine on my rtx 3070 machine (also run cad at work and is why my computer over others is iver spec) found out about the GPU resources and VBA when we attempted to move a VERY heavily scripted workbook to a server where the "gpu" resource is shared across RAM amd the CPU...basically, 8mb of GPU resource was allocated to each user and the workbook all but refused to run most of the time. Surprisingly....watching resources on my 3070 machine, it would at times spike to about 40% gpu while running long, heavy VBA.

the smartest thing AMD did, was to make FSR open source. allowing nvidia cards that don't have DLSS to not upgrade for overpriced models.

Open source anything is turning out to be a strategic disaster for AMD, they are giving customers absolutely no reason to need or want their cards. Imagine if this situation was the other way around and Nvidia announced that they were allowing all AMD users to now use DLSS, it would be the stupidest thing Nvidia had ever done, AMD users would laugh their ass off - basically telling AMD users you dont need our cards you can use our features on your AMD card lol does that sound smart? well thats exactly what AMD are doing.
Nvidia dont care AT ALL that some users are sticking with older cards, they have the market share and more importantly the mind share of those users, when they upgrade - the likelihood of them upgrading to another nvidia card is massive because nvidia still has the exclusive features and AMD are giving all their features to Nvidia for free lol smart smart.
The actual smartest thing AMD did was announce the ability to use a lesser form of FSR at the driver level on their cards which you can switch on in any dx11/12 game, THAT is the smartest thing they did. Suddenly there is a reason to think about buying an AMD card instead of Nvidia because FINALLY there is something an AMD card can do that an Nvidia card cant... for the time being, and do you see what the difference is... its not open source, you cant use it on older cards and you cant use it on nvidia cards. What's far more significant is the fact hat AMD says they're gonna bring it driver level so many games can work on it. That's a bigger win imo than compatibility with older hardware.
if they bring it to driver level, nvidia will quite literally be a joke to buy
Like FSR has driver level support. Which is just FSR1 because it's a post-processing effect that doesn't need engine data like motion vectors. The same will be true for "FSR3" via hyper RX so it will be a very different version of motion interpolation. More akin to what your TV does.
Which I'm not saying is pointless but if people complain about a bit of ghosting or artifacting in current DLSS/FSR implementations, they're gonna absolutely hate hyper RX.

If the big studios already optimize their tgames little to nothing... imagine if they simply put this in it and the game already go minimally well
not a couple years
(points to remenant II claiming its been made with upscaling in mind).
it really shouldn't be compulsory to make a poorly optimised game to run. It should be a benefit for anyone on a old gpu whos struggling to run their games at playable framerates - especially with how expensive graphics cards are these days

FSR3 will definitely be supported on the Steam Deck. Also if AMD is able to enable frame generation for all DX11 and DX12 games, it is likely possible for the open-source community to bring that to every game running via Vulkan - which means on Linux pretty much every game out there, since you can run any DirectX game or even OpenGL game through Vulkan layers on close to native performance. This is amazing PR. Even if FSR doesn't match the fidelity of DLSS, that's a moot point if most people can't even use the newest DLSS anyways. Hope FSR 3 is made available in as many games as possible. Hardware like the steam deck will benefit immensely from FSR 3
My steam deck was my first thought, this sounds huge
100% on this. I think AMD & Steam really are going to be spearheading linux over the next 5-10 years
It's not just PR, it's a good strategy, if they didn't open FSR 3 to all GPU, dev would have the choice bewteen FSR and DLSS, the wouldn't want to implement the two of them and since there is more nvidia gpu than AMD would have gone with DLSS since it cover more user. But with an open FSR it cover all user so it became the defacto choice and allow AMD card to be competitive with Nvidia
Yeah, FSR 3 with frame generation can run on anything as old as 20 series Nvidia cards or 500 series AMD cards, and without 10 series and 5000 series respectively, but the way I read it there is a good chance to go even one or two generations older and still get it to work with a benefit.
Though I wouldnt recommend frame generation with anything under 60 native FPS just to avoid input lag issues, and neither does AMD, so maybe dont go too crazy with that old 750Ti. Frame generation is really just there to get some extra smoothness for high refresh rate monitors, not really as a crutch for gaming performance.
But this is still miles ahead of giving the best crutch to the most modern GPUs that realistically shouldnt even need it (but actually do because lower end cards are performing on the same level as their respective 30 series cards and their only improvement is better DLSS support)
Oh my god, for Steam Deck I cannot wait!!
DLSS 3 BABY! NVIDIA IS BACK ON TOP
Now definitely I won't be moving from my 3060Ti FE to 40xx series.
Normally DLSS3 should work for the RTX 3000 series as well. But nVidia decided not to. Well, thanks AMD.

awesome to see that there are still companies that somewhat care about gamers
It's about undercutting Nvidia's products, not gamers - this being open source make Nvidia's DSLL3 technology much less valuable, and thus their cards less desirable. But still, great news.
Nobody cares about you. They care about your money. And the less superior company has to undercut the price of the market leader as andr said.
@@andrzejsugier Why not both?
It's both. This move helps steer potential customers towards AMD but AMD for a long time has tried to be open with their tech while Nvidia has always been a firm NO and locks it down into their own devices. So much so they do it per generation of their own cards, IE the fact older cards CAN do the same things as the newer cards albeit maybe not as quickly in many instances, they make sure it won't regardless of modified drivers proving it works lol. It's forced obsoletion really and they should be held accountable for it like smart phone manufacturers.
They dont care about you, they care about getting the coin in your pocket before you hand it to someone else. This is true of ALL businesses regardless of industry or business sector.
FSR 3 is supposedly also going to be available for current generation consoles, if this is true it will generate a great expansion in the possibilities of future games, making possible the creation of very ambitious projects (usually new games are made with the idea of being able to run on current generation consoles).
this will also make devs more lazy, like the recent fiasco with recommended specs including DLSS performance mode. Trust me you dont want this to happen. The gaming industry is already a disaster as it is, running not really graphically intensive games at ridiculously low framerates because they never bothered to optimise the game to run better. Im just getting this off the top of my head for Baldurs Gate 3 recently. The game with its graphics had no right to require those specs. The game is poorly optimised so they just throw in a faster GPU? That is not how you do it, the game looks far worse than what we got years and years ago and yet they ask for a GPU that wasnt even out yet when we had those graphics.
@@Glade4 I'm pretty sure the BG3 system requirements aren't even that crazy, what are you on about?
@nicholas_btw Talking about how lazy developers got with Remnant 2. Amazing game, shit optimization and performance. Developer said it was made with "DLSS and upscaling in mind". We can't be asking for "next-gen" games and then complain when 5 year old graphics cards can't run them at max settings. I prob wont ever go back to nvidia. Just throwing money away to fanboy...
they also have great support for Linux, while nvidia is nearly unusable on linux
Yeah agree, Nvidia just took a lead with their new DLSS but this isn't an argument anymore :D however, I think they're still ahead in the streaming territory in terms of visual quality.
I'm also going AMD seems they also require less energy to run the same frames as their Nvidia equivalent so in the long term that saves money too. Energy is Hella expensive here.

IMPORTANT! FSR 3 does work on any Gpu but FSR 3 is not fluid motion frames aka their version of frame generation. Fluid motion frames only works with 2000 series and above for Nvidia and 5700 and above for AMD.
Regardless, it is amazing that FSR 3 works on all gpus and fluid motion frames works on lots of Gpus. Just wanted to clear a misconception.
it actually can run in older gpus, like gtx and rx 500s, but it's not 100% confirmed about performance like rtx 20s and rx 5700+
It CAN run on older GPUs (RX 500 Series, GTX 10xx series...), but AMD strongly recommend RX 5700 & above or RTX 2000 series & above to be able to generate frames effectively.
They said this with original FSR …pro tip guys get a monitor with its own image sharpening tech inside…. You’ll see balanced FSR 40% more frames… no loss of visual quality whatsoever.

AMD always pushes the open standards.
This isn't really anything new. But because AMD pushes open standards, their implementations can be a bit behind Nvidia in terms of quality. Then people compare them and declare Nvidia to be better. Then the Nvidia good, AMD bad circle jerking starts again and we are back at square one with a self imposed Nvidia vendor lock and people being angry about that. Its a constant self defeating process.
AMD really just needs to win for once and actually match Nvidia in quality, but have their stuff work on everything. Lets hope FSR3 actually does that. 🙂
@@DanielWW2 They're not behind due to the open standards, on the contrary. A lot of their software only is usable because it's open and they get contributions for free. AMD is behind in software because they're a much smaller company and they invest much less into software development.
AMD always had chadium balls but they became larger and larger lately lol
It's so weird. I bought an RTX 3070 when it was released, hoping that it would last as long as my previous GTX 970. But with the RTX 4000 generation I was denied a great one with frame generation.
My GPU is still good, no question, but if AMD manages to give FRS 3.0 as big a boost as Nvidia does with frame generation, I no longer even have a reason to use DLSS with my GPU and I'd rather use FRS 3.0. Why should I buy another Nvidia GPU next time if I don't use its features anyway and can't use them anyway?
FRS is for everyone, open source is again the biggest win for consumers. If FRS 3.0 is as good as claimed, I will officially be an AMD fan from then on because they will continue to support me, unlike Nvidia.

We gamers don't need anybody to destroy anything, we need dynamic competition at nice prices.
thats what they do, AMD literally saved us from an Intel monopoly of CPUs, they have a lot of work to do to match the benefits of nvidia gpu's(cause performance its mostly the same), because nvidia has been dominating the market for so long that even the games themselves are better optimized for these cards, apart from all the facilities with Geforce Experience, dlss and so on, the FS3 is a very good step, my processor is Ryzen, however my graphics card is still Nvidia, but they won't be able to inflate prices for much longer if AMD continues to offer such good product improvements
They just opened up the market for any card that supports DX11. I've got a decade-old 8gb R390 in the e-waste pile that just became a viable card again, think I'll build a little boneyard PC for my nephew :)

Because they only stuck 8GB VRAM in that. My dang RX480 8GB from 2016 had 8GB VRAM. Do you know how much more the plain 3070 8GB cost over the 6700XT back then? It was like $200+ more. And the only thing it really beat it in was "RTX" DX Ray Tracing. Rasterization? The 6000 series is the top dog. Games without "RTX" or any ray tracing? The 6000 series blew away the dollar for dollar Nvidia equivalent.
Stop buying Nvidia. Stop buying from a company that gives you something special that only your generation of card can run... until 8 months later when they release the next gen and you can't use it. Imagine being an RTX 2000 series owner. DLSS frame generation? What's that? Oh, only for 4000 series guys.
AMD has ALWAYS made EVERYTHING Open Source. And honestly, they shouldn't. They should give Nvidia a taste of their own medicine. Imagine if anything from the 1660Ti and back couldn't use FSR 1 or 2.x. Only every single AMD card.
But AMD actually cares about gamers. They get NOTHING out of someone on a 1060 6GB being able to use FSR because that 1060 guy is gonna buy Nvidia on his next go around.
Nvidia? They throw PhysX and Hairworks and not just DXR (DirectX Ray Tracing) but "RTX" DXR into everything they can so that it will perform terribly on AMD cards. They've been doing this since 2005 or so with PhysX. Then Hairworks. And there's always some proprietary "Nvidia paywall" bull crap that Nvidia throws out there to hurt AMD users.
And AMD STILL says "We don't care, we're gamers. You got a 1080 Ti? You got a 980 Ti? You have a 1050Ti? A 1060 3GB? Here... use our FSR 2.1. Play that game you couldn't play before."
Why would you NOT support that company? What do you think happens when more and more people support a company like that?
Their R&D gets more money put into it, they expand, they grow and they make killer cards that outperform Nvidia. Not that they don't do that anyways dollar for dollar. Plus, AMD is always faster 6 months down the road. Fine wine technology. Like I said, I used to battle with the 3060 Ti. Now? That's a 6600XT competitor and I trade blows with the 3070.
And in the newest games (games that use more than 8GB VRAM), I smoke the 3070Ti because they crash or don't load textures lol. Or they drop 30% performance as soon as they use up their VRAM.
Stop supporting an anti-consumer company. Stop it.
Oh, and look at games that don't use "RTX" DXR... like UE5 games. The 6900/6950XT blows away the 3080Ti with Lumen and Nanite enabled. Or is it the 3090 that it blows away?
AMD has ALWAYS been the better bang for the buck at launch, then they improve over time with driver updates... and now UE5 is becoming a thing and Nvidia can't bribe them to use RTX DXR. They already have Lumen. And AMD does better with Lumen ray tracing than Nvidia.

they did very dirty sh*t with the frame generation only on 4xxx series. and the dlss is trash in most games on 1080p.
AMD latency reduction for FSR3 is locked to 7000 series. You can enable fake frames generation but with horrible latency on all the other cards.
