My dad was orange my mum was green. By the time he finished she was black and blue, that’s why even as English born to an English soldier and an Irish mother I feel ashamed of my English side. God bless the green white and gold
Me too mate bravo always Irish to the core
I'm Irish dad, Scot mum, born Glasgow, raised England ..
I understand why you might feel shame for your English side....
BUT....
Remember the average common English folk are just as warm and beautiful and sarcastic and hard working as the Irish Scots n Welsh....
Never forget it was the royals, elites and legacy families and some brainwashed military ....
It wasn't the average folk... So don't be too ashamed cos it wasn't "that"
... "We" are all brothers.
You get me? 👍🇨🇮🏴🏴🇬🇧
I spent 15 years in prison and use to sing this alone in my cell helped me get threw dark times
Deadly where did ye do your whack?
God bless
Cheers and sorry for your lost time. Fuck the prison system
What were you in for
My grandparents live at that time in Dublin, a living history I was told of the time when I was a child. Will never be forgotten the GPO the week that changed the world Russia to India and Africa + South America and Asia.
Born in Edinburgh myself, we are extremely PROUD that James Connolly was born here and live here and live his life fighting for justice and a cause that is historically noble and absolutely iconic.

James Connolly; one of the greatest socialists and heroes of the 20th Century. Remembering him 100 years on.
One of the finest men ever to have given up his life for our country we need more men like that in Ireland these days they would be ashamed of the people running our country now

@donkey face jordan if this is true then she should be honoured also as the women played as much of a roll in the rising as the men. I know a few lads from the new lodge and antrim Rd.

My grandfather's name was James Brennan Connolly. The song makes me think of him. The Connolly's and the Brennan's were from Kilkenny Leinster
A Scotsman I am proud to share with the republic, James Connolly was a wonderful man, principled and true to his cause until his dying breath, proper Irishman
Irish blood in his veins, he was Irish

In any other country, James Connolly would be considered a national hero, to our shame, not in Scotland. He will be one day though and all our grandchildren will know his name. Our James Connolly they will say!
Happy St Patrick's Day to the Irish everywhere, love from the Basque country X
Comrades it has been some 800 years, but fear not our day will come. If we can continue the battle through peaceful means we will achieve unity. Ireland Forever......
and hopefully the "independent" part of Ireland will figure out what the word actually fucking means
100 years after republic proclamation, unable to defend theyr seas from pirate fishermens (imagine a navy), Gaeilge being a second class lenguage in theyr own land, brit banks evicting homes in the island, multinationals as google paying 1% of taxes while a irish baker pays 12%, the conflict being internationaly recognized as religius instead of political (as realy is), republics military infrastructure being used by USA to transport prisoners to theyr "secret" prisons in Poland or Guantanamo and blueshirts proclaiming the old fenians as part of them. James was right in all hes points about the forming republic, they change the flag and the accent of the rulers, nothing more than that. Achieving the 32 ignoring those points will mean nothing if Eire Nua is still a idea and not a real political agenda.
And also, Ireland (fenians) is leading the way for many nations from europe as Bretons (france ocupation), Corsu/Sardu (France/Italy ocupation), Catalans (france/spain ocupation) Euskaldun (france/spain ocupation)... The struggle is realy far from its end, sadly.
There's never been a revolution on Earth that didn't require bloodshed
A true hero of the people,, a spirit that's needed today! James, we miss you.

Jesus, I'm sat here listening to this crying . Brings back memories of being a kid watching my old man singing along to this song all emotional with a can of 1% Skol in his hand. I could never understand why he would get so emotional but now 30 years later I finally understand and am now here crying while listening to it myself . 🇮🇪
Me to brother
The key to immortality is living a life worth remembering!
James Connolly will never be forgotten ❤️
The saddest song. James Connolly was a true hero. A heart of gold. Someone who cared like no other about justice for all oppressed people. A Labour activist. A globalist. A patriot. A rebel. An Irishman. Been to Kilmainham Jail where he was executed. Hard not to cry there. ☘️♥️🙏🇮🇪💧
He was indeed a great man, but to speak the truth, he was British not Irish and he was in the British Army as part of the British occupying force in Ireland for 7 years, which was when met Lillie. On the other hand, people tend to forget that British doctors and nurses cared for him in Dublin Castle before his execution. Of course Asquith called all the other circa 75 executions off on 11th May the day before he was executed with on 12 May with Sean Mac Diarmada.
@@skippership7 he was Irish. You can be born in Edinburgh you know and be Irish.
@@patriciathewisher2315 He was a "British Citizen" so like it or not he was technically British just like Skinnider was, a great and brave women who parents were Irish but she was also a British Citizen.
@@skippership7 whatever……. Maybe you’d like to define citizenship
@@patriciathewisher2315 Pre 1st Jan 1983 (when the qualification definition changed) you were automatically deemed a British Citizen if you were born in "Britain", why do you think people like Lady Georgian went to London to give birth to Constance? so she would be a British Citizen, that why. Of course Tom Clarke was also born in England as James Clarke was a sergeant in the British Army but I wouldn't want to be the one to dare call Tom English to his face, he would kick my arse.
To can then take this to all sorts of level, for example was Dev and American not Irish? Or, look at Erskine Childers an Englishman who risked his life to get arms to the IV in 1914, or Charlotte Despard, born in Scotland and brother of general Maxwell's boss FM Lord French and look at what she did in support of women's suffrage and Irish Republicanism. To me it's not where they were born thats important but what they did to further the cause of Irish Freedom, that is the most important thing.
My father sang this song so beautifully 💚☘️😢
🏴🇮🇪🏴🇮🇪 Born in Scotland, fought for our Celtic brothers!
He was which makes his murder so profound thanks our Scottish brother may he rest in peace.
I am American from steel mill country in western PA. James Connolly came to my state to unionize workers in the 1910s. My great grandparents moved here from Poland in 1916 and worked union mill jobs. He made life better for many people on both sides of the pond

I have to hold back the tears when I hear this song!
Had a similar experience a few years ago during the tour of Kilmainham in the courtyard at the site of where the executions took place. The tour guide mentioned in order each of the executions and when they got to talk about James Connolly I welled up. It was particularly cruel how they executed him in that he was being kept alive in the hospital just to be murdered by firing squad.
+Maurice Kiely Sometimes it is hard to be civil when we know what cruelty was done to our great brave men. It is good now that we have a centenary; it should be done with respect and dignity for our men of a hundred years ago who gave us a great country. Their vision, their ultimate sacrifice should be honoured, not loudly, not brashly but quietly. For example, I just read Padraig Pearse's Poem , written on the night before he was executed:
The beauty of the world hath made me sad,
This beauty that will pass;
Sometimes my heart hath shaken with great joy
To see a leaping squirrel in a tree,
Or a red lady-bird upon a stalk,
Or little rabbits in a field at evening,
Lit by a slanting sun,
Or some green hill where shadows drifted by
Some quiet hill where mountainy man hath sown
And soon would reap; near to the gate of Heaven;
Or children with bare feet upon the sands
Of some ebbed sea, or playing on the streets
Of little towns in Connacht,
Things young and happy.
And then my heart hath told me:
These will pass,
Will pass and change, will die and be no more,
Things bright and green, things young and happy;
And I have gone upon my way
Sorrowful.
He was still bleeding from his wounds as they brought him in...
So do I, have to hold back the tears. but I WAIT UNTIL IT'S Night , and them I cry my heart out....Sorry to burden you all with this. Joey James Connoley...Hero!,
Joey

Is James the same man who talked about needing to control a countries own capitalist institutions? Otherwise democracy is just an illusion.
Goosebumps is what I get every time I listen to this great song!
+poeticalish I have seen the wolftones many times in London ,this is the best song. he was betrayed by de valera because at that time de valera had a argentinia passport. that is why he got freed from Kilmanian.
+susan gallagher He had an American passport. De Valera was born in America, and the British Army didn't kill him in case it would ruin relations with America.
+poeticalish Same here, goose bumps with a few tears
poeticalish got them now ☘️

Let's not forget the legends of 1916...Peace and love now but never forget these men who died for us , never forget people
I was recently proudly involved in a tribute to the men of 1916. I did the poem, which was written by one of the execution squad and a musician played this song. I had never seen these two paired until today. BTW James Connolly was a Scotsman by birth, so even more amazing what he did for Ireland
And he was also a protestant but a free man who cared

How Many Comments Says It All 🇮🇪💚🇵🇸
A brilliant man.❤
holding back the tears of anger I couldn't be prouder of my past n my great granddad was a rebel
James Connolly was the only one who knew what to do with an Irish Republic if they'd won.
+Nancy Benefiel Not the only one, but he had the only solution, a Peoples Republic in the true meaning of the phrase. And they would have succeeded, I'm positive of that.
+Tom Turner They wouldn't, and even they themselves knew it would fail. Yet, they still fought, because they believe that they needed a blood sacrifice to awaken Ireland from its slumber.
really tom clarke said he would bye a cottage and have a nice garden and make his wife happy
IRELAND WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+FOOTBALL STUFF AND MUSIC AND GAMES Airlann hasn't won yet. Nor has North Ulster, Scotland, Man, Wales or Cornwall. However atleast Airlann is on its own and DeValera's Catholic Supremacist amendment got removed from the Republic's constitution years ago. They still don't give protestants much voice in the highest levels of government.
James Connolly is one of my many favourite Irish rebbel songs , it's quiet a pity there isn't many more James Connolly like him Ireland would be long since free.and United.
Why say rebel. Were born in Ireland so can we be classed as rebel.
Theres loads of other songs of freedom.
Brilliant song and well sung as usual by the W Tones !

He was born a street away from my Grandad and he worked with my Great Grandfather, or was it the other way round.? They were patriotic to the hair on their toes. A saying of my Aunt, but still true. There's a Plaque on the wall which commemorates him, his birth and, life and death. There used to be a March each year on his birthday. My son and I marched together a few times. My son shares his Date of Birth with James Connolly. He's proud of that. Don't know if it's still on, don't think it will. My son would know. God Bless James Connolly, and do it, even if some say no.

Listened to this yet again. Absolutely fantastic. Then read some of the comments below. He was a great man. Does it matter where he was born. He saw great injustice being done to a small nation and a large powerful nation trying to eradicate them but not realising how resilient a small nation can bet thanks to people like Connelly

the plough shines very nice and neat over the sky of boston where i now live and turns around the north star as it should do , i was recently back in dublin and was blown away with how dominant the plough was in the sky , it dominates and takes over , the black sky is bigger and may feel stronger but through the infinite darkness of space appears the plough and ironically the darker and more hostile the universe will become , the brighter our plough will shine , the plough has always inspired the workers to be stronger than the darkness , lets keep it going and shine through .
