  • This video I first show 4 current working RE/Vanilla starter CV's. Then I bring up some ideas I may try for building a new starter CV for Anvil's May challenge. I am trying to think out of the box a bit and do something that could full fill the roles of 3-4 separate creations with little waste in spawning time or costs.

    My favorite ship is the MCRN-Pioneer That is the best ship.
    I use it for mining, and jumping across the map.
    The only thing I wish it had is a small repair bay. that would be cool.

    Very smart way to avoid Base and have CV to upgrade instead... now there is a brand new way to propose pre-CV type from the smallest one to a normal ones ! Nice concept let see where it goes ;-)

    Hi Jeff, good ideas in theory.
    I am single player only due to poor internet in my area, so my and I assume many others have very different challenges early game. We are stuck with limited resources until we can get into space, we don’t have the convenience of a custom server that regenerates POI’s and resources either.
    Most of the time we have to get into space with an SV to trade and mine asteroids in order to get what’s needed for a Starter CV.
    I like the concept you brought up, it has crossed my mind a few times but it’s always the resource restriction in single play that dictates the path.

    Excellent idea. It's not "cheating" to have a disabled CV as your starter base. It still fits the RP aspect just fine. If you were a survivor and had plans to leave the planet for whatever reason, then you'd naturally get to work on a ship asap. You HAVE to have a constructor and defenses to work towards getting fit so it makes more sense to start working on your ship than it does working on a base, then the ship. You can live out of the ship just fine. I hope you pursue the build....

    I always make a CV base. It's the best use of resources and factory time. Plus, the Zirax don't send drones after it. I really appreciate the idea of a starter base CV that is also a mining module, but having a hangar in it will muddy up the design enough that it would be incredibly substandard. Maybe just ramp up to the roof to carry HVs or SVs instead? I think it's a great idea for another time, TBH, the time limit might frustrate you with so many requisites.
    I am a huge fan of the Helios, I think it is magnificent in function, and find myself going back to it over other designs, but I'm ready to see a *new* starter CV/base. Something you haven't done before? Vertical or flying tower or really asymmetrical? Maybe a throwback to your legged ships like the Orthrus? Maybe big enough to carry a factory or mining module when fully upgraded to bootstrap you into a Helios? I dunno, just flinging ideas at you, I'm sure I'll like whatever you make.

    I love the idea of a base that becomes your starter CV, but add on that it then fits to your later game CV... Just blows my mind... I would definitely like to see that...

    I have done this idea with the leviathan carrier. I modded it with a drop pod for that purpose. But ideally already need the leviathan to utilise the pod. But that cv is like 100k mat requirement so no good for starter setup. :)

    I love the idea of an ultra-efficient CV-base, and I do wonder if for modules especially which don't sit quite flat, if a base designed just to house a module or two wouldn't be a good idea, too. Some custom bases for your other creations, also an idea, like with landings and custom-fitted furniture.

    I have used a Wayfarer in the past and did my best to upgrade it to better storage and thrust with salvage found running around. It takes a lot of work to fit in new stuff. I would love to see something like the wayfarer mark II that starts as a base and can be upgraded as you go. Most people will not use a helos so maybe go with the upgradable but not constrain yourself with it needing to be a module. If you have access to a carrier you have a base to deconstruct the base to midgame CV and replace it with something end game.

    That is an Awesome Idea! Thumbs up! a simple Flightless C.V. As a base. I've Used "Boxy" type C.V.'s before.

    I would say do the new wayfarer. However, the CV base is a good idea but it is like you building 3 ships so it's going to take a lot more time. I would say do both but do the Metermorph sort of in the background. Many thanks for all your creations

    The best starter CV & the one I used to play and beat the main story is the Warchief, which I believe is a stock build. It was the perfect size, didn't require anything I couldn't get off the starter planet fairly easily, has a small hangar for an SV or HV, has all the basics you would need and it was easy to customize it just a bit & perfect it for my needs by just repurposing one of the rooms.

    This base that flies away is the best idea ever! It’s exactly what I’d love to have in this game. Beautiful efficiency! Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

    What i find really challenging this month is to make a CV that can be upgraded to use in mid game and still be affordable early game as a starter. The idea of building a CV as a base then use it to leave planet is awesome. And the fact that it might also be a module makes it usable in mid game. Very clever!
    I would say if you build something you would like to use yourself in season 3. You will end up with a awesome CV, no matter if you choose module or more conventional style. Keep up the good work!

      I can't wrap my head around this months challenge. I make a CV as fast and cheap as I can and then get off planet ASAP. Then I'll save up and make a mid game CV. I don't know...

      @@samsquatch7285 Same here, that's how i do it at least in Reforged. But it's a challenge after all. So i will try to figure out something. I look forward to see the challenge stream, there is so many talented builders in this game!

      @@icewolfen6360 ya I'm looking forward to it as well. I started build g mine and didn't get very far lol. I think I'm going to build it as it will end up (mid game) and then just start tearing things out to get it down to starter cpu status.

    Love the idea of building a base at first that you can fly off with in the end. Could fit a Base block at first, then you remove it and insert an cv block after. Some other idea i like is a ships you could start off with, like an T1 CV, but in the end you could upgrade it so much that i can become an endgame CV.

      Yes, this idea breathes a lot of life into Empyrion, and is a hallmark of why designers like Jrandall will always be needed, moreover why Jeff is a king among them.

    Good day Jeff, U have a great concept idea on hand but I would make the starter CV just a Base still CV blocks without any space for thrusters, because I would have a lifting CV that can then just connect to the Base CV and uplift the whole lot, I think you could make that work great. cheers enjoy your day,

    Your onto something considering a starter base is always something you move away from and to a CV. I hear so many complaints that you eventually leave your first home of sorts. This concept is extremely viable.

    I love the pioneer, it’s my favorite starter CV. There is two spaces on each side of the front ramp on the pioneer I put mining lasers and it works great as an earlier CV miner. The idea of base that eventually gets upgraded to fly away is great, I would love to see it. It always feels bad abandoning your first base when you finally venture into space.

    The CV base is genius, especially since RE nerfs stone so hard. I love it, especially if you include an LCD with a recommended thruster list for later.

    Think about adding not mining drills but drill turret. Actually, you can get one from Deleric ship for free when you doing the quest. Concept starting CV as a base would be nice and if it will be a part of Helios....

    the mining drills can work through heavy glass you can put them behind glass and it still works

    The Wayfarer was my first CV in Empyrion, and for a while there I thought JRandall was going announce a new Wayfarer, remade and Reforged! Still, I'm curious to see how this starter CV module will turn out.

    I really like the idea with a starter CV base. I think you should go for it. I would most likely use it.
    The only thing be mindful of is when spawning it in. To make sure the area is completely flat. Preferably on a big landing pad.

    Fitting a drill turret for mining might be better than fixed drills I think. Fixed drill might be faster (due to numbers) but they require good manoeuvrability which might be lacking in such a cv base build.

    Personally, I loved the whole MERC line, and have tried to redo them to work in RE, but as we know, SVs have the survival rate of a 2Lt in Nam. So seeing a MERC being remade into a CV means not only a solid update, but one that can survive. That give me the chills just thinking about it.

    Brilliant idea! I'm always sad to leave my starter base and get frustrated when my starter CV is hard and clunky to upgrade to a miner. Never used a modular set of CVs before, not sure I would in single player but like the idea for multi player. Making a base CV that is easy to upgrade to fly around the local system to complete missions and mine would be awesome and later to add better weapons and shield to warp to other systems would be nirvana.

    Have to admit to always starting with a CV in Reforged Eden since the early drone attacks are painful to deal with. My EOS Compact CV Base is right up this alley. Would love to see the concept done right :)

      We usually take out a poi and make it our base. Put up a few turrets and collect drops from blown up drones.

    See I love the idea of a CV as a starter base. But you’ll need to have a SV to get Neo or Sathium, which is what I end up having to do anyway, I wish I saw this in the workshop before I started a new world last week..

    Coincidentally I was looking at your Wayfarer in Vanilla yesterday. I was looking for something to use in my new game on the Official Server. I understand the design is old and was done before a lot of changes were made in the game but for the life of me I couldn't determine what was eating up all the CPU on the thing. The Pioneer is extremely similar although more slender and really the only other major difference is the top thrusters on it is are small instead of mediums yet it has the spare CPU to put in a T1 shield right from the start. I'd be interested in a new Human Faction starter CV if it's more of a mini carrier like the Wayfarer. I do believe a modular starter CV/Base has merit but correct me if I'm wrong but they changed it so drone attacks happen on CVs in Reforged to prevent that particular exploit. Some sort of small cheap starter base that you dig in and build is still most likely preferable. Which is a waste because you've made some really beautiful and functional bases for the game.
    imo a "starter CV" does not need more than 1 container controller. 1 of these a few cargo boxes and and ammo controller or box is really sufficient for a 1st CV. More just adds weight CPU and takes up space that could be utilized for something else. A CV like your Wayfarer has enough docking space that you could always dock a modular cargo vessel like XCaliber's cartridge if more space is necessary.
    On a side note I found myself in need of something similar to the Merc MX1 recently as I was lacking an EVA booster or the resources required to obtaining one through construction or trade. The current offering on the workshop is functional still but is a bit lacking in the lift and forward thrust department. There's plenty of CPU left over to add a few small thrusters to bring it up to snuff. I threw something together myself that works and retains the overall original design I think. I was kind of surprised when I browsed the workshop and found no one had anything similar that was built to the current game build. Seems like this says a lot about the current state of SVs in the game.

    i dont really need to see one thats a module but un upgradeable starter cv would be awesome i meen would you realy use a starter cv set up once you get to where you have the big ship that accepts the module or would you ne using more specialized modules. i think making a base/starter cv that could be upgraded on storage/engines/mining and crafting would really be cool

    Love your ship looks. Im old lol and have only been playing this for about 4 months and i am so lost. But something i have been seeing a lot is talk of building a cv rather than a base, so your idea is great. I think someone had posted how to start this on steam. So good idea. You also said you might do a build video, would love to see that but , and of course this is where im having problems, is could you maybe do a build of a cv in survival and maybe a little more detail about how your doing things and the concept of what your thinking and planning as you go? I know it would have to be done in parts because of video restrictions and you don’t want to lose your crowd in a long video. But love your ships. Will they work in RE? Vanilla got boring for me lol

      Thank you! Most all newer creations were built first for Reforged Eden and some also work with Vanilla or there are 2 versions of the creation. Some of the existing creations, especially starter CV's also can work in RE, but I do not have a list of the ones that will at this time. But I can say the Wayfarer-ST, MCRN-Pioneer, Kriel-Shade, and Skaar Bago (all starter CV's) are RE friendly. Thanks again!

    Maybe you can bring back the Nomad as an updated version. I have always been a big fan of the Nomad - XT as a starter CV/Mobile Base in the earlier version of the game. It was a CV that was easy to upgrade (my opinion), but this was before the CPU feature. (If you can call it a feature).

    Isn't the Wayfarer just about the size of a module anyways? To throw out an idea, does a module have to be flat faced? It really only needs one docking contact point. Perhaps even the cockpit could be offset to one side. Another route I have used in gameplay is I built a storage/production module as a first CV then I have a single module carrier that has defense turrets and drills that I eventually put shields on.

    Just recently started the game and yoinked one of your ships, the Kriel Shade. So far explored a few planets. Enjoying the speed it has. It has space for an HV and SV, do you have any Kriel based vehicles that I can stick in/on the Shade? Also, have you made any space bases with that theme yet?

    For the module/base turned miner... couldn't you put the hanger door on the front and the mining lasers on the back? Sure you'd need a second cockpit, but it could be minimal, and that way (since most modules dock nose-in) you'd be able to load/unload your HV/SV directly into the carrier mother-ship allowing you to dock properly to the mother-ship. I'd love to see something like that vanilla/not RE.

    You don't need dual cockpits, you only need one pilot seat pointing the other way in order for docking with Helios

    Hmmmmm... Couldn't you dock it backwards? That way, all the mining stuff and turrets would be facing the other way and wouldn't be in the way of docking! The module's hangar couldn't really be used when docking the module, anyways, so you could even use the hangar door for entering the Helios! IMHO, you don't even need a cockpit for driving backwards (just unlock the 3rd person view camera and face it backwards), but if you really want it, make it usable only in 3rd person view and slap it facing backwards on the bridge, near the forwards-facing one. Anyways, just food for thought.
    Btw, and I don't even know why I'm telling you this since you 100% probably already know this, but if you're aiming at a starting base-turned-CV, it might be a good idea to use 6x3 hangar doors. That way, you can use two 3x3 shutter doors (that are unlocked at a lower level) as placeholders and have the hangar door itself as part of the "upgrade path" for the ship! You can, of course, just use carbon blocks as placeholders for the hangar doors, but using shutter doors don't sacrifice the function of the hangar until you can build the hangar door. You DO have to set up a motion sensor to make the shutter doors "see" ships and open up, but you'd likewise need to do that anyways if you want the hangar door to open up for players on foot.
    Anyways, keep up the great work, Jeff!
    PS: I love the idea of a base-turned-CV, so much so that I've been using the CV-S ( steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2326958268 ) in recent RE playthroughs. I've even rebuilt it from the ground up to make for a better looking, more spacious "space base" later! Suffice to say, I can't wait to see what you have in store for us :)

    Why did you not add the Nomad in the start CV's? IMO it's your best starter CV and one I have used on many starts in both vin and RE

    So, just to be clear and specific, the Wayfarer ST is usable in Reforged Eden? And I like your CV/base idea.

    Why would a hanger need to be in the back of the ship? And how big would the hanger even need to be for a starter base/miner/module? Would you really need to be able to haul a Gigantes or even a Ripper? Wouldn't you only need an HV for harvesting wood after leaving the starter planet? How about a hanger big enough for a Mole? Why not put it on a side?

    Tried out the complete & published starter base, worked well until a skaar nemesis turned up and broke it.

    CV without a shield is just a kamikaze capsule which will be completely destroyed in the first encounter.
    6 thrusters are absolutely useless as well and just a huge waste of fuel. 2L or 2XL more than enough for maximum speed of 100m/s.
    Same goes to farms. What for? All food and medical supplies cost literally nothing and you can buy few hundreds of them in the beginning of the game already.
    2-3 projectile canons will not be able to take out even basic zirax defense.
    Bottom line - those ships are just a cute pictures, without any real practical value.

    my experience with game over the years.. i start new savegame... i get to the point(got a basic base to manufacture) i used sv to get stuff i need to make a cv and i get tired of the game... i wait over 6month and i start over again... ! round and round i go :) ... kinda wierd because i love this game.. but it can not keep me play it for to long to it get booring running around alone in it... . I might have to start play with others but then i also loose progress when they resett servers.. hm..

    quick question I am using the pioneer as a starting craft, would it be possible to upgrade some of the thruster to large thrusters on this craft and still keep the grow gardens from dying to heat?
